Why is GNU/Linux so splintered? If there weren't fifty thousand distros and people constantly shit-flinging over the popular ones, it could actually be a viable desktop OS. But that will never happen as long as there's even a question of "What's better, Debian or Arch" because most people aren't able to make a choice themselves when there are so many options. They just want something that works, and no one in the fucking GNU/Linux community can agree on what works.
>>59938905
>There should only be one choice and if you don't like it fuck you
>>59938916
There shouldn't only be one choice, there should be like 5 and then all the others aren't even mentioned. There still isn't one good Linux because everyone wastes there time on little fucking shit distros that 50 people use.
>>59938975
Debian, Suse, RH, Arch, Gentoo.
There, 5 choices and still too much for you.
Think it's hard to get a job now? Good luck with your porn history.
Better start looking at cuck porn now, fellas. Gotta pad that resume. No racists allowed.

By what? looking at your gmail account? simple browsing history? ISP data?
>dont use gmail
>dont use chrome
>desktop client STILL lacks encrypted chat
>add voice calls
>desktop client lacks that as well
are they deliberately keeping their dekstop client like shit?
Desktops just can't keep up with mobile devices anymore, anon. I'm sorry.

Do programmers even make good money? Most of them just seem like normal middle class dudes only fatter
>>59938484
yeah you can earn a lot if you're good
>>59938484
Yeah you can earn up to £90K a year I believe.
Most good programmers do not give a shit about what they look like. They'd be wearing t-shirts and shorts if the dress code allowed that.
Let's talk about "plus sized" phones /g/. Meaning anything larger than around 4.5"-5" screen size. Who actually uses these things? The only people I've ever seen with them are hopeless autismos sitting in a corner watching chinese cartoons. Do you have one? Do you actually have a legitimate excuse to carry a tablet with you everywhere like being old/eye problems/work-related or do you weigh 400 lbs and own several fantasy knives?
>>59938164
>I don't use it so you shouldn't too
Yea nah. You're a cunt. Small phones suck. I have large hands and my 6.0" phone is perfect. I can operate it easily one handed. Being angry you have tiny hands doesn't invalidate big phones.

>he doesn't him 8.7in hands

People have been constantly told to trust the padlock next to URLs. It used to be, until recently, proof that the site was legit and that you shouldn't be afraid to give it your personal info.
Now, thanks to open source/Linux activists, any moron with a toast connected to the Internet can get themselves a padlock for their scam sites, putting all the personal and bank info of billions of people at risk.
Proof: pic-related.
>lives
>>59938159
You can get this for BSD too.
Also comodo give away certs too.
>>59938159
This has nothing to do with open source, your gripe is with Let's Encrypt being accepted as a valid certificate authority on par with other (theoretically) more "serious" authorities, or really people incorrectly telling others that the "padlock" means they must be connected to the server they intended to connect to.
This is basically caused by web browsers showing those "THIS CONNECTION IS UNSECURE!!!!" messages when connecting to an HTTPS site with a self-signed certificate, even HTTP is even less secure and gets no warnings. To get around that you need a free, no hassle certificate authority, which then defeats the purpose of CAs if all CAs are considered equal.
In other words, it's not a "libre" (FOSS) problem, it's a "gratis" problem. Having "tiers" of CAs, free ones vs. paid and (theoretically) more trustworthy ones, could provide a quick fix to your problem, but the long-term fix as ever is to educate people and not tell them patently incorrect information like "The padlock icon means you're completely safe."

So I have a motherboard that only has screws for 2260 size m2 ssd, but there is room for a 2280 one.
There exists adapters to make shorter ssd's (like 2260 sized ones) fit in 2280 sized screw holes (pic related), but does anyone know of one that does the opposite to make it fit my motherboard?
A drill
>>59937617
OP here
I was thinking of just glueing it to the motherboard with double sided thermal pads and hope for the best, but wanted to make sure if here want a better solution.
>>59937617
Surely the back screw hole of the m.2 ssd is a ground hence the ssd may not be grounded if you don't screw it in?
You could always make a basic copper cable, connect said points with said cable and then use your thermal pads method.

Let's go to windows xp x64 with ahci mode
Everything works, the main thing that does not work is the chrome / chromium botnet. This is it, everything works
Aren't you limited to DX9 and some crazy old .NET version? And what's the point of using Windows if you aren't using .NET and DX software?
>>59937212
Do not make me rewrite all that developer stuff and how trash wine is.
>>59937240
WINE is trash, but it's better than trying to use XP64 as a daily driver. Or you could just use Linux with a 7 VM.
Ok /g/ im looking for a little computer help here. Im smart enough to know how to operate one but diagnosing issues is not my strong suit.
I have a Compaq Presario cq57 laptop.
It used to overheat and then blue screen and crash, and wouldn't even stay on for more than and few minutes. So I reformatted, and restored it back to factory figuring i had a virus or something. I knew the overheating was a problem too but didn't think it was the primary issue.
After the restore, it did run much better, and stopped blue screening. But it still runs like a slug on a plate of salt. So I bought a laptop cooler and it ran great for a day or so, then went right back to slug status.
I'm curious if someone can maybe point me in the right direction to go here other than trashing it (can't afford to just buy another, so don't say it please). Should I try to restore again? Or disassemble and clean the fans? Ido rather not disassemble, i know how and have done it before but I just don't know if it's worth the risk of ruining something with static shock. Or if it will even do more than a can of dust off.
>>59936978
install gentoo
>>59936988
Linux though, dont you have to be smarter than me to use Linux?
I just want this thing to run like it did when I bought it. Nothing special, a normal windows laptop. I use wisecare 365 and it tells.me my cpu is running at like 91% all the time. Even when nothings running... Unless there's a background program running i dont know about that shouldn't be there?
>>59937165

What's the best smartphone and why is it the Pixel?

I think the Note 8 is going to blow everything out of the water. Samsung's gonna try their absolute best to get back those "power users" that went to other devices this gen.
