So, a non tech savvy person that I know is going to HAVE to get Comcast service in their area. I can setup most of the crap myself, but I hardly know what they have. I am looking at Ooma for the phone service (needs the home phone), but I have no idea what to do for the DVR service.

So, how does g not get jewed by these fucks?

Sorry your non tech buddy will just need to suck Comcast's cock. The best thing for them is to pay Comcast for Internet and TV bundle.

As for the tech savvy..

Get access to a neighbors WiFi, whether that is cutting out a deal with them or just straight up crack their WiFi passphrase. Saves you over $50/month and provides a little anonymity for you.

Forget cable TV.. Pay for a VPN such as PIA or NordVPN then pirate the movies and tv shows. Shit gets too damn expensive overtime.

Why even consider this horse shit in the first place?
>>
>>59960894
no. Every review out there showed that the 1600 is the sweet spot for gaming on Ryzen. If the 1600 is within your budget and you're strictly gaming, you'd be a moron to buy one of the octacores. That said, every review around has shown that the 7700k is the current gaming king. It's unclear how long that's going to last, though, as frametime analyses are showing that a quadcore is no longer ideal for gaming and the 7700k only gets by because of its four extra threads, which provide a 20-25% boost to its performance and mitigate stuttering when background tasks need time on one of the cores.

If you're asking which I'd buy, a 1600X since I have a good cooler already and I'm unwilling to pay so much more for a 7700k, the performance gains aren't large enough for me, and I believe the 1600X and AM4 will have more longevity than the 7700k and 1151.

But if you're considering an 1800X, your budget is probably much larger than mine and you can probably afford to chuck money at a 7700k and upgrade your entire system 18 months from now if you need to.

Idk dude, It depends on what you know. If you know lower level (i.e. C or Assembly) learn something high level like a Lisp (Clojure) or Python. If you come from java learn something functional like scala or erlang.

Learn something that will balance you out.

/pcbg/: Post your component list; rate other anons'; ask questions in general.

Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-6100 is heavily discounted
>i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to i7
>No R5 1400 unless discounted
>i7-6700k is good but pricey. If over budget: consider locked 7700; not chasing 4.8Ghz+ capable when you weren't gonna overclock, or get R5
>Cheap Z270 board is still good for faster memory in games w/ locked 7700, but aren't for overclocking (VRMs suck)
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use

Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX470 , RX480, 1070, 1080, 1080TI
>1060 is worth considering over a 480 if same/cheaper in your country, or you just play games it's better on for the price. 1050Ti is for mITX builds
>470 is usually all you need for 1080p. Look for them on sale ~$130 or less.
>Nvidia GPU + Ryzen has issues in many games atm
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over a card weaker than RX470, unless price/performance is better (discounted/used)
>May for Vega

General:
>No brand/model loyalty. Parametric filters on pcpartpicker can help
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't worth it just for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>Save money w/ mATX case/mobo, and if patient by purchasing your parts individually in flash sales

I'm new to PC building. I want a budget-friendly rig that can easily handle ultra settings on 1080p and high setttings 1440p. I game and also edit videos and use DAWs for music production. Any areas i can improve or cut prices?
>>
>>59960325
There's a limit of text in the OP. But it's implied that you should play at max/ultra to save a ton of money.

Most games now days don't look any better on ultra/max than they look on high or very high. All those settings often do is make benchmarks worse to sell overpriced cards.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5ZsaavKNR8 is a fantastic video on that fact.

Here is Digital Foundry's RX580 review for those interested, too.
Currently it seems that there is some driver/BIOS shit creating at a wall at like 1480MHz.
