Double nigger
I am trying to dual boot Linux and Windows 10 (boo, I know. it came with the computer) on my 1 TB hard disk. I am using an HP Envy 700 desktop. I made a live CD and set my boot order in BIOS right. I put the disk in and tried to boot up the computer. Windows started. I then used f9 when booting to force the disk drive. I got
>Boot disk not found or disk failed.
the disks are brand new, mint condition, and were also made by HP. if you need more info on the computer or situation, just ask. I simply want to upgrade to Linux
I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/LInux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

nice copypasta, but not very helpful.
but hey..at least it isn't "install gentoo"
>>62486237
Install Gentoo.
In all seriousness, have you tried verifying that the CD actually works? I'd try it in a VM first to verify you can get to the install process before putting it in your actual computer
is MEGA /g/ approved?
I dunno but I wish more forums that post filehost links for videos would decide which hosts to use so if you pay for premium speed you dont have to pick many...
Also sadly I only see porn use filehosts, never see music or nonporn video forums that post using filehosts, only torrent trackers.
No.
Torrenting is much healthier

No. They're shit.

Hi, it may sound stupid but:
How do you guys "DESIGN" websites?
I mean, writing CSS and HTML is really unproductive.
So far i tought of
Developing a gui, so i can drag and drop(maybe using chromium engine)
Do you really write code like monkeys?
Or is there some new tech stuff like "automations"?

WYSIWYG website design software has been available for at least 20 years

Thanks to both of you!
Well since there is one, i shouldn't code mine myself haha!
I really tought that people "coded" like that. It's ok for some fine enchancements, but i don't think it's a suitable way to build a website.

Yeah, they won so hard that they abandoned the Kinect because they decided to use it for fucking video games.

Serious question here: I'm currently running a Gateway ZX4300 all-in-one shit machine and it's dying. I've done all the tricks to keep it alive but it's pretty much done for and I'm now running a remote session into it from my laptop just to use it. I'm low as fuck on money and the situation won't be getting better any time soon so I'm looking at old refurb machines to bide my time until my money situation improves. I can score an old Dell or Lenovo machine that can be upgraded to a C2Q 9550 for $100-$120 easily and I've seen a couple of older Dell Precision workstations that can be upgraded to a pair of quad core Xeon X5355's for about $150. What's attractive about the Precision workstations is that I can toss up to 32GB of RAM in it, making running multiple VM's much easier.
But... It's 2017, not 2006 when these processors were new. How bad would it be to run something like that nowadays? I'm not really a gaymer except emulated games via MAME, ePSXE, NullDC, and the like and the occasional UT99, UT2003, or Q3A deathmatch and I have a Radeon HD5830 in storage that's pretty much up to the task for that shit.
What say /g/?
You could probably find a Dell with an i5 2400 for that same ballpark price
>>62485802
Nah, I've tried. Best I could do was a 1st gen i5-650 for $150.
>>62485946
Just search around eBay/CL until you can score a good deal.
>designers who are getting paid millions of dollars approved a notch that literally blocks your content
how is this even possible?
>>62485738
>how is this even possible?
It's fucking Apple, what do you expect?
Now stop making these threads faggot, pic related.
>>62485738
Lol what a stupid question. Obviously as an app dev you design the game to take the notch into consideration, like building a hub around it
I would've sent the design team back to the drawing board. Timothy Cook is a pussy.
I've used a few wm's but i feel the one that's best for me hasn't been made yet. How difficult is it to make my own x11 window manager. I know some C but I dont have any experience with xlib or xcb
>>62485580
Why don't you look at the code for one of the many open source twms out there and figure it out?
#define MAX(a, b) ((a) > (b) ? (a) : (b))
int main(void)
{
Display * dpy;
XWindowAttributes attr;
XButtonEvent start;
XEvent ev;
if(!(dpy = XOpenDisplay(0x0))) return 1;
XGrabKey(dpy, XKeysymToKeycode(dpy, XStringToKeysym("F1")), Mod1Mask,
DefaultRootWindow(dpy), True, GrabModeAsync, GrabModeAsync);
XGrabButton(dpy, 1, Mod1Mask, DefaultRootWindow(dpy), True,
ButtonPressMask|ButtonReleaseMask|PointerMotionMask, GrabModeAsync, GrabModeAsync, None, None);
XGrabButton(dpy, 3, Mod1Mask, DefaultRootWindow(dpy), True,
ButtonPressMask|ButtonReleaseMask|PointerMotionMask, GrabModeAsync, GrabModeAsync, None, None);
start.subwindow = None;
for(;;)
{
XNextEvent(dpy, &ev);
if(ev.type == KeyPress && ev.xkey.subwindow != None)
XRaiseWindow(dpy, ev.xkey.subwindow);
else if(ev.type == ButtonPress && ev.xbutton.subwindow != None)
{
XGetWindowAttributes(dpy, ev.xbutton.subwindow, &attr);
start = ev.xbutton;
}
else if(ev.type == MotionNotify && start.subwindow != None)
{
int xdiff = ev.xbutton.x_root - start.x_root;
int ydiff = ev.xbutton.y_root - start.y_root;
XMoveResizeWindow(dpy, start.subwindow,
attr.x + (start.button==1 ? xdiff : 0),
attr.y + (start.button==1 ? ydiff : 0),
MAX(1, attr.width + (start.button==3 ? xdiff : 0)),
MAX(1, attr.height + (start.button==3 ? ydiff : 0)));
}
else if(ev.type == ButtonRelease)
start.subwindow = None;
}
}
done

Why have you not joined the Apple A11 Bionic master race, /g/?
Being able to film in native 24fps is actually a really cool feature on the iPhone X.
Probably going to get an s8 when I'm eligible for upgrade tho.
I'm getting kinda tired of seeing all these apple threads.
>>62485546
Because I'm waiting until I can try an X myself. Really leaning toward replacing my 6 with a 8+. I hate that fucking notch.

>>62482459
Here's the link.
http://www.oocities.org/televisioncity/1502/
Also share old webpages, I guess. Or let this thread die, I just wanted to deliver to the anon who asked.
oocities.org has a huge collection of old geocities pages.
Yep we just jacked this dick dry but let's have another shitty thread about it with the same 15 links, 5 pictures about the modern web, and same shitty stories about "back in the day". So I'm actually interested in the archive of geocities because it will encourage potential circlejerklet-shits to view the thing they're jacking off about in question, to see how shitty it was.
Assuming this thread takes off because all the failures have to pretend to live in a different time because they've failed in this one, note how nobody will actually go to any of the links. It will just be "oh cool" or something vague or there won't even be a response. Because nobody is going to these links because they just want to pretend. Nostalgia shits really do hate the geocities archive because it easily gives them access to it, they want it to be hard to get and find so they can forever pine for it and not actually get it.
>>62485344
Let me guess, you're the same guy that replied to my chat rooms thread?
Literally everyone on this board is wanting tech to go back to being as honest as it used to.

>Dual-core processors widely available since 2005
>Twelve years later, consumer chips are pushing double digit core counts
>Parallel computing is still somehow in its infancy
How does that happen? You'd think that a decade and some change would see new developments there, but it seems that there's more focus on simple multitasking.
Secondary question: with ARM and big.LITTLE, can this change?
99% of what consumers do would show no appreciable benefit from parallelization
anyone who can actually benefit is already relegated to a handful of govt funded HPC centers
>have two or more applications open at the same time
You are now parallel computing sir.
>>62485106
What of enthusiasts?
>>62485131
The word you're looking for is multitasking.
Are there any off-brand Volcanos that are basically as good, but cheaper? I really like the idea but $600 is a bit much.
>>62484969
I use the Arizer Extreme Q. It does both bags and the whip. Its a great starter vape and I've used mine for 3 years now with no issues! Its not as good as the volcano, but if you go on eBay they're only about $160 new. Vape critic has some good reviews you could check out to for basically every vape on the market
+1 for arizer extreme q
