Can someone explain this?
Extracting something with 7zip on an SSD and it's just 35 mb/s. What is bottlenecking here when task manager shows that pretty much everything is not even close to its limits.

Run the built-in benchmark. If it's still shit, you'll know what the problem is.
Is 7z multithreaded? If it isn't, are you sure you aren't maxing a core?
All new laptops and laptops released the last six months have a combination of a Intel CPU and a NVidia GPU. AMD is simply not there.
Will they make a comeback? I'm seriously asking. They did release the rather weak RX 550 and Ryzen desktop CPUs are there. Will there once again be AMD powered laptops? Or have they just given up?
>>60115286
Laptop Ryzen CPUs are coming Soon(tm) http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/amd-ryzen-faq
Ryzen+Vega APUs could be quite attractive.
>>60115344
Their desktop and laptop APUs are going to be amazing this time around.
Anyone here have assembly knowledge? Writing matrix addition in MIPS and I don't know how to sw to an array index
How can I do this? sw to index[i] of a word array?
>>60115268
>tfw I actually had to do this at work recently
>>60115395
...could you help me out then ?
>>60115268
Did something like this recently. I believe you would have to sw with base register offsetted by the index * the size of whatever data type you're using (in your case, word, which i believe is size 4). So if the base register for your .data is say $10, then the first element in the array would be at (0)$10, the second at 4($10), and so on. Let me know if this helps.

So I found a Dell Latitude D400 in my closet.
I came here to ask you guys about... What can I do with it now?
Should I upgrade it a little bit, leave it as it is or just leave it as a memory of the past of laptops
>>60115204
just throw it in your neighbors trash.

I guess that's for the better

You can probably find dimms for it and an ide to sd card adapter and put it in, but thats a pentium m, which is 32 bit and limited to 4 gb ram. I have a similar one that i mostly just use as a browsing, ssh, and scripting machine because the keyboard is ok.

Inkscape for some compliated stuff, or gthumb is I just want to crop an image
Of course I use imagemagick for conversion and stuff
Paint.net and photoshop, sometimes Gimp and Acorn

Any recommendations?
>Last month it was reported that two major tech companies were tricked by a Lithuanian man into sending him over $100m (£77m). Evaldas Rimasauskas, 48, was charged with wire fraud, money laundering and aggravated identity theft for impersonating Quanta Computer â a Taiwanese electronics manufacturer that includes Google, Facebook and Apple as clients.
>Now an investigation by Fortune has shown that the two firms Rimasauskas reportedly sent fraudulent invoices to were Facebook and Google, who both paid out over $100m.
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/apr/28/facebook-google-conned-100m-phishing-scheme
How does this happen?
Companies are made up of people. People are gullible.

Jane in accounting knows literally jackshit about anything besides accounting. She sees an invoice from a known vendor that she sees all the time, she gets the invoice approved and pays the amount. Repeat x5000 a year as her job.
>>60114726
Why did the idiot steal millions? He could've grabbed like $50000 from each and he probably would've gotten away with it. Never get greedy.
THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES TODAY AND IT'S NOT EVEN 8 PM YET
Since I upgraded my computer
>8GB DDR3 ram -> 32GB DDR3 ram, added a gtx 1050
the whole operating system randomly freezes. I use my computer 10-20 hours a day, and it happens from one to three times a day.
sometimes it takes minutes to freeze, sometimes the whole day seems to go by without accident.
about half the time my computer freezes, a fan goes immediately to 100% (I assume my CPU, but it might be anything, I don't know). I doubt this is because of termal issues, as the computer is pretty quiet and takes a fraction of a second to turn into a commercial airline.

install gentoo
Your computer needs a break. Maybe get a 2nd one to use sometimes (a laptop for browsing on the couch?) and your computer will be much happier and stop acting up.
If that doesn't cheer it up you might need to just wipe it and start with a fresh OS install.
install gentoo
I want to get started with arduino, but I'm a total beginner with electronics and programming; no experience. Where should I start? I signed up for a c++ class on edx.org, but I havent started the lessons just yet, i havent had time.
look for a tutorial or two there are a lot of free books online, start playing with leds to learn the basics, some of the books tell you what to buy
>>60114604
>can't program

>hurr durr
Retard. 95% of what you learn there won't even be applicable to your Arduino dumbass, you should have gotten the starter kit to fool around instead.

What "bleeding edge" or meme tech do you own, and why did you buy it?
I've slowly realized as I got more disposable income, I've started setting it on fire and enjoying more technology most people don't have access to.
Some cool stuff I fell for:
- HTC VIVE + 4K Pimax VR: tried a demo and really enjoyed it. Using my desktop in 4k surround is an amazing experience and I'm glad I bought it.
- Mavic Pro drone: Love this thing. I'm not a photographer but since owning this I suddenly have the urge to be a Casey Neistat.
- ThinkPads: Own a P50s but actually prefer my T430 to it, being able to tinker and upgrade old hardware is really cool.
- Epson Projector: Opted for this instead of a TV. Colors aren't the best but I like being able to transform an entire wall into a display and not have to rely on anything but power and my Chromecast.
- Ultrawide: should be mostly self explanatory. I don't think I could go back to using anything under 21:9 again for long periods of time. Ironically, this sees less use than my 4k as a desktop monitor.
If mechanical keyboards or headphones count, I've got 3 HD6XXs, including serial number 2 (yeah, I'm that faggot), and a couple random mechs.
What about you? Brag about your bleeding edge tech here.

>>60114535
>I've got 3 HD6XXs
why
>>60114970
One is for VR, one is for the computer, and one is just on display since it's serial number #00002, which I originally bought to sell but decided to keep.

What are /g/'s favorite documentaries (or biopics / "realistic" fictional films) about technology? I finished watching this 1994 documentary on the internet last night and really liked it. Unfortunately the first part is missing, but it doesn't seem to be essential to understanding the rest. Pretty interesting look at early views of the internet both from idealistic "cyberactivists" as well as those who had a more fearful outlook on automation and the control of information. It also features William Gibson, and amusingly enough, Nick Land.
