Arguably the best distro.
>Easy to use
>Easy to install. Virtually plug and play.
>Contains all of the essential fedora-tipping features, like the robust command line
>Customizeable
>Native cinnamon works by default
>Resembles Windows 7
And yet /g/ hates it. Why is that?

/pcbg/: Post your component list; rate other anons'; ask questions in general.

State the PURPOSE of your PC & BUDGET. State COUNTRY if not USA.
List GAMES/SOFTWARE you use often. List resolution & hz if gaming.
Seeking build improvements? Clarify goal: lower price or improved specs?
ctrl+f to see if your question was answered already

>Assemble your parts list with price comparisons & compatibility filter.
https://pcpartpicker.com

>Information on how to assemble a PC, select components & more. (somewhat outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Build_a_PC

Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>i3 are only worthwhile for dwarf fortress & single-purpose emulator boxes
>i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to R7/i7
>R5 1400 is not worthwhile unless discounted
>i7-7700k is good but bad value. If over budget, an R5 is probably as good or better for you
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use

Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX570, RX480(if cheap & not blower), RX580, 1080, 1080TI
>RX570 is usually all you need for 1080p@60hz
>RX550 & RX560 are worth considering if you just need 6 monitor support for cheap and/or play low end shit
>1060 & 1070 are worth considering if you already have a Gsync monitor. 1050Ti is for mITX builds or if on sale at ~$100
>Nvidia GPU + Ryzen has issues in many games atm (thank you nvidia driver team)
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over a card weaker than RX560
>May for Vega

General:
>No brand/model loyalty. Parametric filters on pcpartpicker can help
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>mATX can often save cost as the board+case is usually cheaper
>1 DIMM is significantly slower than 2 DIMMs

I've been ask to put together a computer for my PHD, and I have a hard time picking a cpu. On one hand Ryzen should be better at multicore stuff like computation (r-r-right?) ind is not from Intel kikes, but on the other I would have to get a GPU which will cost extra, when I would be fine with intel integrated graphics since all I need is to display shit onto the monitor. Which should I get?

What are you doing specifically? Ryzen is really good at integer math and shit at AVX for example

Also, don't rule out buying a GPU as a coprocessor, they shit all over math, that's what bitcoin mining is

Hey /g/ I have a weird problem with my western digital drive. I use Windows 10.

When I move files to it, after a minute or two it freezes. The hard drive use stays at 100% but the transfer rate goes to 0 b/s (checked with task manager).

What I have done
>ran HD lifeguard test from WD's site, it passed BOTH extended and quick test without faulty sectors.
>ran another check from test disk and it passed it.
>IT DID NOT FREEZE DURING THESE.

>Formatted it with NTFS+default allocation size+quick format

Dice caters specifically to technology-related jobs, but contains a bunch of recruiter spam and third-party posters and recruitment firms.

Indeed is the largest and most-used job posting site.
There are 6 "Sponsored" posts per page of results, so you have a ton of stuff in your results that isn't even relevant to you (for example, I get "Sponsored" results for Amazon jobs in Seattle when I'm searching for jobs in Florida).

Indeed is your best bet, though, just because of their size. Everybody posts there.
