Right, so I'm on a budget and wanna get a gaming PC off the ground. I'm looking at a Pentium G4560. Does anyone have one or have used one? Planning to pair with an RX 570 for ultrawide 1080p gaming.

>G4560
You want at least 4 cores for gaming, also http://www.logicalincrements.com/
>>
>>60156956
Even though the G4560 is hyperthreaded?
>>
>>60156956
The G4560 is fine for light gaming, it's basically a Haswell i3.

OP, the 570 / G4560 is a decent combo but you'd get a lot more bang for your buck if you saved up just a little bit to get an R5 1600 and an RX580 instead.

>retard youtuber gets robbed
>computer gets stolen
>past 5 years of work and upcoming projects were on stolen computer
>makes 10 minute video of him sobbing about how he lost all of his personal pictures and work in progress
>youtube is his primary source of income
>gets $30,000+ donated to him to replace his shit and to "increase his security" (which people have been suggesting means he's going to move houses)

i get people feeling bad for him because he got robbed but why on earth would anyone feel bad that he never backed a single thing up off-site?

youtubers are the fucking worst - if you owned a business and you only had one fucking copy of all of your business' crucial data in one machine and nowhere else, nobody would have any sympathy. if your livelihood is made on the internet/computers and you don't understand basic concepts like backing your shit up off-site, then maybe you deserve the wake up call. i know sometimes its infeasible to back up video files but it's definitely feasible to be backing up your past completed work, your in progress writing/storyboarding, and your fucking family pictures.

the best part is that after all of this, his solution is to move houses. i hope he gets fucking robbed again.

Currently worthwhile CPUs:
>G4560 for budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>i3 are only worthwhile for dwarf fortress & single-purpose emulator boxes
>i5 aren't worthwhile. Get Ryzen 5, drop down to G4560, or up to R7/i7
>R5 1400 is not worthwhile unless discounted
>i7-7700k is good but bad value. If over budget, an R5 is probably as good or better for you
>R7/Xeon for compute/multitask/mixed use

Currently worthwhile GFX cards:
>RX570, RX480(if cheap & not blower), RX580, 1080, 1080TI
>RX570 is usually all you need for 1080p@60hz
>RX550 & RX560 are worth considering if you just need 6 monitor support for cheap and/or play low end shit
>1060 & 1070 are worth considering if you already have a Gsync monitor. 1050Ti is for mITX builds or if on sale at ~$100
>Nvidia GPU + Ryzen has issues in many games atm
>Budget builds: consider integrated graphics over a card weaker than RX560
>May for Vega

General:
>No brand/model loyalty. Parametric filters on pcpartpicker can help
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>Stop fucking confusing any M.2 drive with NVMe. M.2 is a form factor

I'm in the exact opposite boat.

I'm a genetic programming specialist, I've just been told to take two weeks to develop a proposal to do NLP and they think that Deep Learning is the best way to do it unless I come up with a good reason to do something else.

I've never actually written a neural net, let alone have any idea how to implement NLP with it or develop one into some kind of Deep Learning.

Hello /g/

I know in this day and age mp3-players are anachronistic at best, but since most of them are pretty small they have that advantage.

The old iPod was able to create new playlists, sort by album, artist etc. and play everything from an artist or an album

I'm looking for a preferably modern device that has similar features and has either large internal storage or an SD-card slot.

Is there such a thing today? I once had a Sansa Fuze(the original one) and put Rockbox on it. That made that thing pretty good already but I looked through pic related and all the devices listed under stable ports aren't sold anymore except for the SanDisk stuff.

There have been threads a while ago about some high end meme mp3-players but I forgot the name.

Also mp3-players in generel thread I guess.

Rockbox is dead and so are decent mp3 players (unless you want one of those bulky audiophile things)

re: Guix SD: I tried liking NixOS, but found the config language difficult, and the base system somewhat buggy. Maybe I should give GuixSD a shot?

> uses dmd aka "The Shepherd" instead of a more widely-used init system

This is okay I guess. Seems like Systemd has more out of the box, but there's always those systemd haters everywhere

> The Shepherd is alpha and designed for HURD

Okay but like. This is why I stay away from stuff run by the FSF: the primary objective is always "libre", with usefulness and user-friendlyness lower priorities.
>>
>>60156822
Funny, I've been moving to HN lately too. And what attracts me to GuixSD is the Guile Scheme implementation. I don't know how big of an advantage it'd really be, but I like to imagine it as EmacsOS

This folder is becoming fucking massive.
Is there a way I can automatically get my system to purge the folder whenever I shut my computer off?
Hopefully without making an alias?

How do I convert a mac """music artist""" to windows or linux? I just spent 12 hours straight trying to get a stable hackintosh setup running on the most powerful machine I ever laid hands upon, working graphics drivers are nowhere to be seen and OSX crashes every 10 minutes no matter what I do.

This shit is killing me, the build took less than 3 hours and the next 9 hours have been spent trying to get this fucking retarded OS running. Can I somehow make them believe that running OSX inside a linux host VM would be a more stable and as powerful option? Would it actually be true?
