I've got a dell inspiron 5559 (12gb ram, intel i76500u, 500gb hdd) and would like to do some minor upgrades:
1.)
The intel dual band ac-3160 sucks; Is the 7260 a good upgrade / will it fit /if not what's better?
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth.html
2.)
I'd like to use a drive caddy to replace the DVD drive with a SSD, which ssd is the best?
bump of interest
ive been thinking for getting a new network card for my laptop too, where can i find a comparison of them?
>>60181353
actual ethernet card or wireless? not sure the ethernet can even be replaced but it seems like the wireless one is simple enough
>>60181315
If you want the best compatibility for wireless I'd get broadcom card.
As for the SSD i'd advise something in the way of the Samsung Pro series if you're willing to shell out money to get a decent warranty.
I am horrible with headphones/earphones, they always seem to break. I've never spent much on headphones as I don't care to much about audio quality, but does lower cost also equal lower durability? Does anyone on here have any recommendations for durable headphones (preferably in ear, cheaper the better)?
Pic related is my most recent pair, just broke today.
>>60181302
Do you recommend these for us?
>>60181322
God no. Second pair, both broke from light use.
i've had the soundmagic e10's for about a year now and they still seem in good condition
panasonic does some good cheap and durable ones
About to start my internship at facebook this summer as a software engineer. I think I want to drop out and convert to full time, if they let me, instead of another 1.5 years in school. Anyone make a similar decision? I want to know both the success stories and the regrets.
Don't worry, there's absolutely no way they'll be taking you on full time.
Finish your degree, also, savor the fuzzy feeling of receiving a paycheck, because it will be a LONG time before you achieve gainful employment again.
>>60181505
Are you saying this because you know? I've already spoken to several past interns who have done this. Facebook gives about 40% of their interns full time offers for when they finish school at the end.
If you so choose you can convert that to full time instead of going back to school. These are the facts. Why are you certain its not possible?
>>60181232
>as a software engineer.
do they stil give the same "solve this assembler problem also design an autocomplete box" bullshit interview?
Pros and Cons.
>>60181150
>immature documentation
uhh no, every meme web wanna-be language has far better documentation.
C & C++ don't even have fucking info from who made them, it's random ass sites whom document it
>>60181190
What are you talking about?
I believe Rust is more "low level" than D.
Also, try reading a single character from stdin in D WITHOUT calling C's getch()

You can't :^)

is this normal?

Nope

Why is there so much damn anime in the Reading list? Also cargo cult science... I absolutely respect Feynman but what does it have to do with cyberpunk?

Bump 4 you
1. /g/ participating in zero-sense commie-religious wars. Cuck boys used as pawns for ideologies that make no difference in professional world.
2. focusing on what programming language to use, lol:
- switching from C to Rust for embedded: ~1 month to get on the same level.
- switching from C++ embedded to C++ game dev: 1+ year to get on a similar level.
get on the real level, kids.
>>60180891
Yes?no? I dunno wtf you're getting started here, are you saying g is full of Scrubs because of the communism/PL flamewars? And who or what are you talking about with the c/rust/c++ bollocks?
>look at me i am a wagecuck now, i am adult!
>>60180891
>- switching from C to Rust for embedded: ~1 month to get on the same level.
you mean rust code takes 1 month longer than c code to to the same work ? yeah i guess you are right
Sup faggots, I'm looking for the best gaming laptop. Has to have an i7 and a GTX 1070 minimum. Budget is $400
This is the current state of this board.

Intel Celery is best.
xD
Have you ever used a celery core?
I have before and god damned it was terrible.
Is there such a good thing as a decent Celery CPU?
>>60180827
There was the 300MHz Slot 1 version. That CPU could overclock to 500MHz and outperform a Pentium II.

Can we get a networking/homelab thread?
I'm moving to a new apartment and want to build a new homelab. When doing the networking I would like at least two physical network interfaces but I'm not sure which approach would be better (pic related)
1. Main router is an internal vm
Or
2. Main router is the edge router on dedicated hw
>>60180682
Why the fuck do you need that many switches?
Cut it down to one and use vlans
>>60180682
Separate your home lab from your usable internet connection and go for all hardware. This gives you maximum hooliganism potential.
My home connection is just a Netgear R7000 with the stock firmware. I got frustrated experimenting on my live shit (that was too limited, anyway).
Now I have a few 1841s and 2950s and I'm studying for a CCNA. I'm tempted to replace my live setup with an 1841 and 2950, but I can't rember a time when the R7000 has failed me, so I'm probably not going to spend that extra $100. I'd probably be too tempted to mess with it if I did change, too.
>>60180960
good point, a vlan can essentially have the same functionality of having multiple subnets right? becuase thats what id like to have. would i need a layer 3 switch? sorry i gave up reading the ccna book so i not that smart at networking.
>>60181000
i'd like to have my vmhost pretty central to the topology because it will be hosting shit like ownclud, dns, fileservers etc. so id like everything else on the network to be able to access it easily
Hi.
I want to create one database of all my photos, hobbies, texts and project. The system must be like catalog with full control of topics or tags or some filters.
For example I don't need evernote pro account or trello checklist. The "dream" system is full control of transparent information and presentation of it.
I already used:
MindJet - great system and filters if I not saving photos.
OneNote - tags and bookmars but every page looks like huge board or wall without any connections
Articulate Storyline - too long work on interactive flash-like site
Folders, clouds - hate that - too linear but not informative
After create "own space" i want to share some facts or post in 1 site. I try to start own blog with card-type posts, account on medium, youtube channel, group in facebook, lists in thematic sites, some rss-feeds "star-bookmarks. But everytime I need to dublicate new information to every system, 2nd problem - I don't have full control of domain - it may be closed. And how i can export my info from this sites and catalog i?
I really abused.
May anyone share the chain of systematizing option+tool?
PS: English is not my strong skill, sorry.
>>60180429
Use "Getting things done".
You can do it with a simple MS Excel sheet if you want to.
>>60180468
it is time-management system. But i need to catagolize already done work> for example i have photos from conference 2013, text from 2014 about Company A, have cool demotivators aboutt one theme, list of favorite books, presentations, excel sheets about interesting features.
And I want not only organize all of it but look in 1 filtered page to get some insight about creating work/hobbie/book/etc
I've been looking for something like this since forever. It doesn't exist.
I'm actually trying to learn how to program and manage databases to create something like this for myself and maybe throw it on github or whatever if I actually manage to do it, but I've just started learning, so don't hold your breath.
For organizing pictures, I suggest you try Hydrus.
This thread is for the discussion of the possible replacement/mirror of the late Nyaa.se (which also hosted Sukebei); taken down for reasons still under speculation.

Assuming nyaa comes back up one day
How do i go about setting up a daily backup?
I have tons of raspberry pis and know some Linux (bash, cron) but don't know web stuff

Is this the time to start hording content? It seems trackers are starting to go down
When I finish watching something I just toss it on an external HDD and wipe the files from my main HDD.
Same for vidya, although my video game setup folder is smaller in comparison, it's still got plenty of comfy of games that are usually a pain in the ass to find. I also include all kinds of mods and patches in there. Pretty useful.
Yeah, it's disorganized. So far I've been simply tossing stuff in there.
>>60180211
>Is this the time to start hording content?
Nope. The time has long passed.
You missed it.

1) Do you think that this technology will catch on in the near future? What are the implications of this?
2) What are some uses you can imagine for this?
I can't decide if this is revolutionary technology that will change the internet forever or if this is another well-packaged meme.
