So here's the thing.
I used linux for some time ages ago but had to move away because of stuff I need for my studies, namely adobe CC and Rhinoceros. (No, GIMP/blender are not acceptable choices because of the need to share files with workmates)
FF to today, there are still no linux versions of said programs and chances of them happening are pretty much nonexistent, but in the meantime we had Mac versions of them (and more stuff) showing up. Why isnt there an effort to make a compatibility layer to run mac programs on linux? For what I understand it _should_ be easier to achieve compatibility of both platforms, right?
>>60194578
>Rhinoceros
use fucking maya like everyone does ? they have native linux versions for more than 15 years now
>>60194634
fuck off, maya is shit for anything that isnt a character or animal. Also muh nurbs
>>60194708
ok, then use cinema4d ? they too have a linux version
>go to documentation page
>can't find PDFs download for offline reading
Why is all documentation only viewable online? When did this trend start? I don't like this /g/.
poor frog-o
>>60194467
PDFs are all downloadable you brainlet
>>60195427
Pretty sure he's saying there simply were no PDFs.
Does /g/ use virtual machines?
>tfw u practice pentesting
yeah but mainly for running automated programs in the background

the NSA is practicing some pentesting on your PC
Yo /g/ where can I acquire one of these phat keyboards?
i mean, man, shit, mans gotta eat and shit but i need one of the sweet typers
>>60194421
This keyboard autism is the most boring possible form of tech hobby. Nothing but buying shit that is insanely simplistic and extortionately priced.
tenkeyless is better I can keep navigation and f keys
This is JavaScript, programming language of the future, bound to replace majority of other languages. Say something nice about it.
>>60194358
>Say something nice about it
Modern JavaScript engines have exceptionally good JIT compilers.
>>60194358
It's bascially LISP light.
>>60194358
It exposes normies to functional programming.
How long does it take you to fresh install any OS and set it up with all your applications and data?
Took me 4 hours today, including installation of GPU drivers and tensorflow, but I feel I could do better
No idea. I don't have to reinstall my operating system all the time.
3 hours from driver updates to apps installation
Ninete helps alot
To be more specific, you should at least have:
>Browser + add-ons
>Drivers
>Video player
>IDE
>Any streaming application (Spotify, Popcorn Time, Netflix...)
>Music player
>Libraries
>CLI tools
>Config files for all tools you use
>DE themes

What are the the best resources to go about learning C++? I've searched extensively but any tutorials I stumble upon are complete and utter shit. I live in a decent town with a massive library so I'll take book recommendations as well.

Sweet, I'll take a look at these. Any websites or videos at all?
Genuinely interested in what you guys think of this? Is it a scam? It's kind of a tech recruitment company where you put up a profile and companies contact you. Then you get a signing bonus which I understand comes out of the money companies normally gives to recruiters. Should I use this?

If it smells like a scam/rip-off, it probably is one
Cool people featured in hip tech videos didn't get a job like that, they had connections. Face facts.
Hi /g/
I'm a Macfag, but I like PCs so if you guys help me I will dump my Mac. It's just taking so long to set this system up to the perfect level.
I have a mATX Phanteks Evolv case.
There are 2x980Tis inside (EVGA Hybrids) and the Rads are mounted on the top. The top of the case gets REALLY hot but the GPU/CPU/System stays fairly cool since the top rad fans are set as exhaust.
If I take the top off of the case (which removes the A E S T H E T I C) it stays cool at the top. I assume it's just there's not enough holes on the top panel for exhaust.
The overall question is:
EVGA has a 1080Ti Hybrid coming in, and if I get rid of the 2x980Tis, will this single 250watt GPU help with this issue? Since Maxwell runs hotter than Pascal, and these GPUs I have are really old...but if they're the same wattage, it may run at the same heat level? (Sorry I'm a Macfag pleb)

did you read the sticky? no one cares what computer you use. go to r/pcmasterrace or something

Calm your tits anon. I'm not a gaymur, this is a workstation for 3d rendering. (actual work).
if you don't have an irrational fear of meme websites, reddit.com/r/buildapc could help you out
otherwise, /pcbg/ probably knows what's up. worst case, go to /sqt/ or /wsr/ (the board) and they might help
Exoskeletons can be quite cheap in the future. This arm was made for around $100 and has the potential to help elderly and disabled people
The moving mechanism is still in development, but otherwise it works perfect.
Would love to hear from you guys!
here is short video if you are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8_e_dIC0fQ
You feel it, too, don't you?
>>60194157
Quite cool. Is it necessary to have "Intuitive control"? I mean, if the exoskeleton just supports your elbow, you have to grip the thing you want to carry with your hand anyway. How do you plan to solve this? Wouldn't it be better to implement a complete "clamp" or something?

Pixel Launcher is such a meme. It's too hard to reach the top left corner to get to search on a 6" display. The search pill and clock don't even persist across homescreens anyway so why wouldn't they just make it a widget?

So I'm a weeb and I read that Ruby was made in Japan so I was thinking of learning it.
I already know C#, have written some non-trivial programs in Go, Python, and scripted a few things in JS, so I don't think learning is going to be an issue.
I don't have a strong need for speed as my bottleneck will inevitably be server response times and internet speeds.
What should I expect going in? Assuming I won't touch Rails.
Go ahead and learn Ruby. It's a nice scripting language on par with python and it can probably handle your server needs just fine.
Instead of ruby you should consider suicide.

Just make sure it's a place that hates/has no ties to the EU/USA, not a place like Brazil or something which would leap if the US told it to jump.
Preferably one of those REALLY abandoned places no one even knows exists.
>>60193822
The best solution would be to get IPs and domains in one of those fucked up and corrupt places in Africa and then just get hosting with BGP-peering somewhere in Europe or Asia. Otherwise the hosting will be just too fucking slow.
