Sup guys and girls. I want to learn either C# or Java. I have some experience with C from a decade or so ago at college and still remember a bit of it but it seems like these days things like C and C++ are not the most sensible choice for a desktop or mobile app.
anyway so C# or java? I am tempted by java because of android but c# looks to be a better overall language.
opinions on this sunny sunday?
>>60261252
they are really similar. learn both at the same time.
java gives you the flexibility but makes you wish you were writing c#
c# gives you nothing to write

if you want to make something that's properly cross platform and efficient, you'd want to.
What is something you always wanted to exist, technologically possible, yet nobody ever created it?
I've got the chance to make it, so I ask you guys for ideas

My motheroboard doesnt have a m2 slot and I am interested in using the new intel optane.
Processor: i7-6900k
Can broadwell-e use intel optane? Im having difficulty finding information.
What PCIE board would be best for this that is 3.0 and 4 lanes or is there some better way since motherboard does not have a m.2 slot.

Motherboard has no m.2 mount. is this approved or anything better?

optane only works with kaby lake/7th generation processors. I'm not sure if mobo really matters but you're shit out of luck non the less.
Why is Pascal so underused?
>compiled
>fast
>easy to read
>easy to write
>maintainable
>strong typing = less bugs
>dont have to fuck around with pointers to achieve basic things

Hey there,
I have been reading about this recently, I knew it was kind of a thing, but I'm getting into it recently.
I get the general idea, but is it something that came up just now? I mean can it only be used with modern technology (as ie: I need a thunderbolt port or I'm fucked, and only works with PCI-e cards)
I'm not even interested in doing it, I don't use my laptop for heavy tasks, this is just mere curiosity... but how cool would it be to hook up an old Thinkpad (idk, a T42) to an AGP 3Dfx card with something similar to this? Sounds like it would be awesome, someone needs to make it happen if it can't be achieved yet.
As we all know mobile 3dfx doesn't exist

That would be really cool actually.
This thread is probably more /g/ related than most of the shit posted here.

Do you have in your firm or do you met people who use MS-DOS or other DOS (for example FreeDOS) applications in 2017?
>>60260736
i think that there's at least one company that sells DOS based software for accounting
>>60260736
Not OP but I been thinking for years there is a treasure trove of lost DOS programs that are more useful and better suited for most companies when it comes to productivity in terms of invoicing, customer databases, asset management, inventory control than any of the shitfest programs on the market today.
I know of a particular club that had a database program specially designed for them that allowed them to manage their members dues along with more data than you can imagine, specially designed for them, no other tool can ever compare or do what this program did unless they had it specially designed again. And they have used it since 1990.
I worked for a company that still uses a a custom in house built unix terminal application. Thousands of users simultaneously have ssh sessions open to the server.
Why should one use BSD instead of Linux?

>>60260644
You haven't answered his question tho
Let's just start by saying i'm not too good with technology or programming.
I've been using a patiƫnt portal for a while for reasons.
Now i've been wondering how something like that would be created. The basic steps of what they do to make one.
Does anyone know in what direction I should look? Any things to look up to find the basics.
Greetings, an interested guy
>>60260431
Using CSS, JAVASCRIPT, MYSQL and a server such as Apache and server language like PHP.
there's no simple explanation.
>>60260622
Thank you for your information.
But what steps should you take to make one you think?
I think It's something like
1. Figure out why you would need it
2. Research your audience
this is where i get confused. 3. Code it.
4. design it.
5. test it
6. use.
Again. I have no idea how i could find out how they do this
>>60260431
Creating a patient portal is the same as creating any old web page.
The difficulty comes in getting the patient data, and keeping it secure to the standards demanded by the government of whatever country you are in.
t. health-sector software developer
Btw, if you ever want to get into Health software, I recommend learning about HL7, the Health Standards group.
Specifically, read about HL7 2.3, HL7 2.4, and FHIR. These are the standards that are most commonly in use today.
https://www.hl7.org/fhir/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_Healthcare_Interoperability_Resources
FHIR is the newest data standard that they are pushing to replace the older standards.
So I want to make a logo, I heard you guys are good with logos.
