How the fuck did this happen? Was I just being throttled before? I'm using PIA, which is usually slower than my normal connection, but after buying a new wireless adapter and running these tests, I'm pretty surprised.

How did the VPN suddenly outperform my own network?
32 posts and 9 images submitted.
>>
>>60300088
I'm doing more tests, and it's really hit or miss whether or not the VPN outperforms. I got a few results from the same server, clearing cookies/cache, repeating, etc, and found, at one point with the VPN, 0ms ping, 15 Mbps down, 16 Mbps up. Turned it off, got up into the 80's. Turned it back on, goes to the 70's all of a sudden.

Is this site just full of shit? I don't know if I should trust these results.

No. I really hate the shift to threaded discussions. A reddit comments section basically consists of the top two first level comments and dozens of inane replies to said.

Why do people make these stupid distros?

For every original and successful distro, there are a million spinoffs and shit that are the same thing but with more bugs and other problems. Why can't the people who make these distros just contribute to the existing distros to make them better instead of making some half-assed niche distro that will be dead in a year?

Do you think any of the more popular spinoffs will die soon? Like Elementary or Manjaro?
26 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>60299598
Apricity never had a real community behind it.
Also NO, other popular distros won't die.
>>
>EvilEntity
>>
>>60299598
Any distro with a significant userbase won't die. Elementary and Manjaro both have significant userbase, as does Solus. Even though they're somewhat small, they aren't going anywhere. Which is fine, because if they have userbases it means they're doing something well/different.

I don't but I'll get a VPN soon, which hides my stuff from my ISP at least.
As for using something like Tor all the time >>60299567 is kinda right, even though everyone should use it to make it more saturated with random people not doing any funny business on it. But it just slows down the connection too much.

Adding more nodes increases the speed of the network, and a large amount of "legitimate" traffic reduces governments' ability to claim that privacy protection is evidence of law breaking.

What's the modern equivalent to this?

Why aren't there any computers today that combine the keyboard + computer into one?

Is it impossible to take RasPi and just embed it into a keyboard so you can just plug a screen into it? Why sin't anyone making this?

Also, isn't there an HDMI wireless connector so you don't even have to plug a cable into a device like this?

>R5 1500X will keep above 60fps in every game. No i5
>R5 1600 is the best value for higher fps gaming and mixed usage; 1600x if you don't want to OC
>i7-7700k is bad value but good; may have heat issues even at stock clocks

Graphics:
>G4560 iGPU is fine for LoL, dota2, rocket league, etc
>1050Ti - if on sale for ~$105. RX560 soon & looks good

Should i go buy my self a Raspberry pi and install Linux onto it, mainly for the purpose of pen testing, or should i save up for a new £569.99 PC?

Why are default Linux interfaces so fucking ugly?
71 posts and 10 images submitted.
>>
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

You have C : the lingua franka of programming.
C++ : a multiparadigm language, that is under constant development.
Also bunch of other languages for hundreds of specific purposes.

Is there any special reason to write a program in C# ?
