This is painfully disappointing. Fucking 8C CPU and it still has so few PCIe lanes? I didn't buy Ryzen and it looks like I'm not buying this shit either, since the 10C model will likely go for $1000+ and I'm not paying that much.

I do. I've used Debian and Arch before as my main distributions but I have to say Void is my favourite.

I don't even care about systemd but Void just works and all the software I need is easily available and up-to-date. Contributing to the official repository is also piss easy.

I have no reason to go back to Arch or any other distribution because of Void.

Not Vega, because HBM memory will make it expensive as fuck, thus the price/performance ratio will suck.

I think we're all fucked regarding this. I haven't checked since, but the consensus within the Arch/Gentoo maintainer circles was dropping support for Grsec. Though I think PaX will still have support.

The Kernel Self Protection project has already taken the torch and they are serious about it. Meanwhile in arch linux, the developers are talking on applying some patches separately, covering at least part of grsecurity.

So I'm just about ready to build a new PC. Mine is about 8 years old now and incredibly outdated.

I'm looking into splerging on a graphics card, probably a 1080 ti. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and make the leap to 4k.

How is 4k gaming right now? Should I even bother with it? I've read a lot of articles and forums posts suggesting 4k performance is generally bad even on the best cards today, struggling to get 50 fps on many of the latest games at near max settings, and that it's not a huge bump from 1080p in terms of graphical fidelity and enjoyment. I figure it might just be better to get 1080p 144hz monitors.

Thoughts?

So, most old banks use COBOL for their core services, with approximately 200 billion lines of Cobol out there, typically in the form of monolithic programs that can not be ported gradually.

The average age of a currently active cobol programmer is ~55-60 years. The average programmer younger than 35 has not heard of cobol at all.

Banks are afraid to do a full rewrite because they are afraid that a slight change in specifications could lead to a failure to provide services. But the people that really know how the system works are already retired in many places, and in ten years most people that knew the people who knew how the system works will have retired.

Are we in for a banking crisis over the next decade? Should I shop around for a new bank, making sure that I pick a bank which does not rely on Cobol? The fact that banks primary services will effectively go unmaintained soon is scary.

Anyone else have a Geberit washlet? You don't know what it's like to take a dump until you've used a washlet. I bought a Geberit (German made) instead of Japanese because it looks better and probably is built better.

Heated seat. Built-in fan and carbon air filter to remove odor. Warm water spray cleans your butthole. Warm air dryer dries it. For chicks it washes your vagina. 4 pre-sets. Huge flush that cleans everything out.

Mouse thread. Post yours, how you like it, etc.

I'm actually posting because I think I just goofed buying a cheap bluetooth mouse, and I want to know if all Bluetooth mice are shit, or it's just this brand Buffalo that I haven't seen in the US.

It doesn't track fine movements worth a damn, so I will be going back to my trusty Microsoft Basic cable mouse. I guess the three strikes of 'cheap, wireless and minor brand' were not good signs lol.

Pic related, shit on right, clunky but trusty on left.

I'm considering to buy a trackball, how they are?
Are they as fast and precise as actual mouse?

The mouse in question is a Buffalo BSMB21S. It's a queit-click mouse, which is why I bought it.

http://buffalo.jp/product/input/mouse/bsmbb21s/

Yes, I am in Japan, I don't know if they sell these in the US. MSRP is ~$30 but I got it for more like ~$15

Guess I should be wary of discounted cheap mice?

Too many things. But I'll TL;DR, if you didn't guess already it's because >muh autism
First reason, that I personally don't give a shit about, is waste factor: 100 plastic tubes vs one glass bottle of ink? Whatever, who gives a fuck.

Can't use the "cartridges don't hold as much as muh in-built" but that's not always true, either. Carts come in many sizes, depending on the pen in question.

My main reason isn't that I don't like the carts themselves, but rather because I don't like the pens that use them as they are IMO, mostly lazy junk. What I mean by lazy junk can be explained in watch terms too:

Consider the whole
>muh inhousey house
vs
>muh univsersal ETA generic shitter serbice anywher foreba spar perts

Same thing with cartridge/converter taking pens vs pens that have an inbuilt filling mechanism. The latter came from companies that had to put some original thought in the engineering and design of their products, whereas companies that use solely the former I see as lazy, having only to make a universal fit to allow any bajillion 3rd party carts or converters. Little thought, little effort. These guys usually don't even make their own nibs and usually purchase stock models from one of the few nib factories out there, same with their converters. I don't like that.

I want some evidence of effort for my money.

An inbuilt filling mechanism is a thing of beauty. A lot of work went into that device, and since they're patented they all a little different from one another. Converter/cartridge pens are all the same: empty shells. The makers are usually (not always, but usually) little more than pen case makers that slap on a stock nib and stock filling converter, just like the shitter watches we rail on that are stock "swiss" mvts, chinese cases - they're not watchmakers, they're case designers (and even steinhart and the like just rip designs off).
