http://www.os2museum.com/wp/vme-broken-on-amd-ryzen/

A bug in AMD Ryzen CPUs make them unable to run some 32-bit operative systems (including XP), and unable to run most 16-bit applications (like old games), even in a virtual machine (does not affect dosbox or qemu because that's emulation).

More specifically, Ryzen throws invalide opcode errors when using INT instructions when VME is enabled (introduced with the Pentium), preventing most 16-bit applications and DOS XMS drivers to work (including freedos).

So Ryzen is not a proper x86 processor, yet no one is talking about it.

How do you AMD shills defend this?

>inb4 why r u using old shit
Typical AMD mentality, if it mostly works, it's good enough.

yea, though it won't affect emulators like dosbox, as they don't directly execute software on the host cpu

hard drive failing, fuck this remind me of my harddrive full of bluray tv series died a few months ago. FUCKKKKKKK. backup important data before its too late. better be safe than being depressed. tips, partitioning or splitting your hard drive into two local disk will increase the chance of it dying. I'm still bitter by that accident.

Gentoo or Ubuntu?
Freedom VS Ease of use
Inb4: Is this even a fucking genuine question?
Yes, yes it is.

Gentoo for if you have a lot of free time on your hands (read unemployed)

Ubuntu if you want a fully functioning OS quickly, and need to get work done (read employed)
>>
i generally dislike linux because what fpbp mentioned - normal employed people dont have time to fiddle with it when it fucks up for no reason.
i find ubuntu very cancerous though. i tried mint as well. i can recommend linux manjaro, its like arch without all the configuration fuckery. it worked surprisingly well for me and its even without some problems i had on ubunt and mint (horrible screen tearing, lack of vsync basically).
>>
>>60389028
This, plus the fact that Ubuntu is still breddy free wrt Windows and MacOS.

Gentoo is either for hobby or for when you need an extremely high performance environment for some very VERY dedicated application

I'm trying to add a new mode to xrandr.
I can create it, but when i try to add it to my display, i get:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 18 (RRAddOutputMode)
Serial number of failed request: 30
Current serial number in output stream: 31

Before, I did
sudo xrandr --newmode "1024x768_60.00" 63.50 1024 1072 1176 1328 768 771 775 798 -hsync +vsync

And then this line gives me the error:

sudo xrandr --addmode LVDS1 "1024x768_60.00"

I'm not sure what's happening, could i get some help? I already tried my luck with /sqt/ and /fglt/

Why do you need more than 4 cores anyway?

Is your 20 weak cores Ryzen really being efficiently used over what you get out of 4 powerhouse intel cores??
