SO recently my windows 10 just sharded on me and suddently stopped working completely . took my laptop to some niggers to try and fix it turnes out I cant boot up windows without re-installing and loosing all my precious dlls. so I decided to install ubuntu via usb . I just need to know one thing. I heard that I cant just choose a different directory to install files / programs , I need to write some code that tells the OS where to look when clicking on the shortcut to the application also (for example fruity loops 12 ) when running an application off wine where to load files needed that are on the separate hard drive. am I looking at this the wrong way? do I just need to move the /home directory? I'm dangerously new to this and would like just a tad bit of help . To reiterate I installed ubuntu on a usb flash drive. fearing I would loose all my data I removed my hard drive before the installation . now when I boot up I'm getting warnings that I have X_ amount of space left. help please im n00b :i
Install gentoo.

>I heard that I cant just choose a different directory to install files / programs
This is because package managers are mostly shit and package maintainers are idiots for not giving us option to chose where should the package be installed. It's completely doable.
>I need to write some code that tells the OS where to look when clicking on the shortcut to the application
Yeah you can either "write code" (actually just issuing a command in the console, it's called symlinks) or just use your graphical file manager to create links to desktops. Playonlinux (a GUI WINE manager) gives you a prompt if you want to do so.
> do I just need to move the /home directory?
No. Most of the stuff you can do is inside the /home directory, look at it this way:
/ => systemwide/user independent changes. Take cautions because it may brick your system
/home/USERNAME/ => user specific changes. You can install user specific programs, user specific paths etc here.
So what is your actual question?

I want to make a directiory/folder that leads to my internal hard drive; or whatever I have to do so I can easily install & access my information, I dont mind having to boot up via usb all the time . but I would rather be able to store/access all data on the hard drive.

When I couldn't download a car.
when the sonic millenial youth came together in the spirit of harmony and civics to defeat SOPA and uphold net neutrality, and barely 2 years later were in full SJW smugfuck censorship mode of anything they dont like, led by the same corporate interests they supposedly fought back then.
'my people' have betrayed me, they can all go to hell. I want trump to gut neutrality just to make them cry.
Has anyone used Krita on Gentoo? I've tried compiling it AND I've tried using the appimage.
Both attempts resulted in a slow laggy program. Other programs like GIMP run just fine, so I can only assume that I'm missing some dependency or something. Anyone had any success with this?

Hey /g/.
Explain me how a Compiler works.
it takes high level code and spits out intermediate macro-assembler instructions
these instructions can then be translated into machine code for the CPU to slurp up

>Write a program that outputs all possibilities to put + or - or nothing between the numbers 1, 2, ..., 9 (in this order) such that the result is always 100. For example: 1 + 2 + 34 – 5 + 67 – 8 + 9 = 100.

>>60557470

>>60557470
It's less hipster than Atom but also less useful. Still I really like it because it feels more like text editor than a IDE which really should be all a developer needs.

I'm not quite le hacker /g/uru, I like it but Notepad options locked behind editing .cfg files is too fucking tryhard. Just give me an options or settings screen like any normal application.
Is there a good upgrade for OS x Yosemite? or am I better off just keeping it for now?
>>60557419
if you're Hackintoshing, ElCap is great. If you have real HW, go with Sierra.
PS: I've been playing with Pascal drivers and a 1080. It's fucking great! No bugs so far that I could see.
thanks, is sierra that much better than yosemite?
>>60557419
Sierra is pretty good rn. It's also required if you have a Pascal GPU.
Go with Sierra, start fresh, and look into doing a Vanilla install instead of TonyMacFag.

I don't like the fact that SwiftKey autolearns shit, including URLs and IIRC it can't be disabled.
The best keyboard I've used was TouchPal but it became unusable when they infested it with ads.
I've resorted to Gboard with autolearn disabled.
Has any hot totties hit on you ever since you installed Ubuntu ?
No. But a tall, slightly unkempt guy in one of my classes whose manner of speaking makes you wonder if he's low grade autistic did take notice.
And the day I brought my thinkpad, holy shit, he wouldn't shut up.
I think he said he's running Arch.
