Give me one good reason why you should write software (desktop applications) in any language other than C?

What do C++ (let's face it, no one is writing C++ they just absorb planets with frameworks and get 15% perf increase over Java/C#) C# or Java (lol) offer? All their libs/VEE's are bloated, slow and have shit ton of overhead due to abstraction they offer to "enterprise software". I see no point in writing good/fast/low overhead/optimized code in C#/Java since i'm writing the same code I would be writing in C, except that with C i would get 50% better performance if not more because I can do custom ASM optimizations and compiler can do much more than some 5ms per func JIT.

I don't know about Rust/Go/ or any other SJW shit but I guess they're even worse than C#/Java.

It's so fucking gay that CPU guys just keep trying to make shit smaller. Give me a CPU the size of a fucking book with massive power.

kthxbye

actual knowledge is always worth more than a certificate

even when certificate is based on a hands-on exam

and CCNA isn't (i.e. it's shit)

I just got bitten by https://github.com/expressjs/express/issues/2495.

The docs said nothing about this. It's existed for 2 years. It rears its head during incredibly basic usage (literally the first time I've used this feature). And this is entirely normal for a widely-used library on NPM, because I've found crap like this in the other libraries I'm using.

It's been a while since I've seen this on /g/.

Devuan release is out and a nokia n900 image is avaible. I grabbed my dusty n900 and gave the image a try. I works! I had to resize the the root partition to fit the whole card size but other than that it's good. How many years have it been since I wished for a propper debian installation for it? Well, it's devuan but close enough. I'm kinda happy now.

Can you still use it as a phone?
Aside from that what do you intend to do with it? Browsing is probably a pain since the hardwAre specs are so low. I cant imagine carrying it around as a portable ssh terminal considering your phone can do that without the need of an additional device.
Has this brought new life to the device at all aside from the initial excitement?

best way to get out of the botnet?

Post your component list; rate other anons'; ask questions in general.

>Assemble your parts list with price comparisons & compatibility filter.
https://pcpartpicker.com/

THEN state the PURPOSE of your PC & BUDGET. State COUNTRY if not USA.
List GAMES/SOFTWARE you use often. List resolution & hz if gaming.
Seeking build improvements? Clarify goal: lower price or improved specs?
ctrl+f to see if your question was answered already

>How to assemble a PC, select components & more. (somewhat outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Build_a_PC

CPUs:
>G4560 - budget builds (<$500) unless G4600/G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>R5 1500x - generally all you need for 60fps with power to spare. No i5
>R5 1600 - best value for higher fps gaming & mixed usage; 1600x if you too lazy to OC
>i7-7700k - bad value but good for higher FPS; may have heat issues
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper/i9 - compute/Multitask/mixed use

Graphics:
>G4560 iGPU is fine for desktop stuff and very light game
>1050/Ti for low budget. Drop settings if not Freesync/Gsync on newer games; RX560 if discounted
>RX570 4GB - 1080p@60+hz, running most maxed; older games at 144+hz
>RX580 8GB - 1440p@60+hz, inject SMAA & drop settings for some games
>1060 - Generally outperformed by the RX 580 and GSync costs more; consider only if AMD is not an option (ie CUDA)
>1070 - 1080p@90-144hz/1440p@100+hz
>1080 - 1080p@100-144+hz maxed; 1440p at lower hz.
>1080Ti - 1440p@90-144+hz; 4k@60hz in SOME games, more at lower settings
>Freesync2 & Vega soon

General:
>READ PRODUCT REVIEWS to see if that cheap SSD/PSU or whatever is reliable
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>Stop confusing any M.2 drive with NVMe. M.2 is a form factor
>Go mATX form factor for cheaper board+case
>1 SR DIMM is slower than 2 DIMMs

Is It even possible to overclock m-atx motherboard?
No decent cooler seems to fit without punching ram and graphic. +matx cases do not support 160mm coolers in general so you gotta go with
h7 cryorig or similiar shit.
>>
>>60679283
It's just a repurposed server socket, threadripper CPUs do not need as much pin but the regular AM4 1100~ pins aren't enough for it still

Also, even an R5 1600 is ahead of a 7700k in performance, unless you're talking gaming but Threadripper (nor R7) aren't made for gaming.
And Threadripper CPUs will most likely perform the same as a 1700 considering the rumored clocks

What's the benefit of higher allocation unit size for NTFS? What should I even look at when comparing different sizes?

>>
Less fragmentation. Set it to 64k.
>>
Higher sizes give slightly higher read/write speeds at the cost of hard disk space.

For instance if you use 8KB block sizes then even if you only need 4KB to store a file the disk will still reserve 8KB so you wasted an additional 4KB to store that 4KB.

Hi guys,
I'm thinking about upgrading my computer. I'll need a motherboard, a processor and a graphic card. Probably Ram memory too, I only have 8 right now.
I don't want to have the best stuff, I just want to be able to play in 60 FPS on games like GTA5.
What would you recommend me? Parts that fit together.

There are a couple, like if you don't require UI, or need something with a smaller footprint like transmission, or need a daemon. Bitorrent clients have very good open-source alternatives to choose from.
