CPUs:
>G4560 - budget builds (<$500) unless G4600/G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>R5 1500x - generally all you need for 60fps with power to spare. No i5
>R5 1600 - best value for higher fps gaming & mixed usage; 1600x if you too lazy to OC
>i7-7700k - bad value but good for higher FPS; may have heat issues
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper/i9 - compute/Multitask/mixed use
Graphics:
>G4560 iGPU is fine for desktop stuff and very light game
>1050Ti for low budget. Drop settings if not Freesync/Gsync on newer games; RX560 if discounted <$90
>RX570 4GB - 1080p@60+hz, running most maxed; older games at 144+hz
>RX580 8GB - 1440p@60+hz, inject SMAA & drop settings
>1060 - Generally outperformed by the RX 580 and GSync costs more; consider if AMD is not an option (ie CUDA/miners buying all RX570s)
>1070 - if on heavy sale-ish
>1080 - 1080p@100-144+hz maxed; 1440p at lower hz.
>1080Ti - 1440p@90-144+hz; 4k@60hz in SOME games, more at lower settings
General:
>READ PRODUCT REVIEWS to see if that cheap SSD/PSU or whatever is reliable
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity/scratch disk/VMs
>Stop confusing any M.2 drive with NVMe. M.2 is a form factor
>mATX board + case is often cheaper
>1 SR DIMM is slower than 2 DIMMs
Is there a way to get extended warranty on Amazon after purchase?
>>60784311
extending warranty is a sign of lack of confidence in a product
and it's usually bogged down with so many terms and conditions it's practically an inferior version of insurance
Is the anti-static wrist strap just a meme or do you actually need one?
How am I supposed to write programs in 10 kilobytes?

is that why aur packages aren't updating?
good to know
You have 7.77 repeating microseconds to explain why you aren't programming in COBOL:
>free of SJWs and nu-males
>despite this, it's the most inclusive language (literally invented by a woman)
>used for serious applications, such as defense, banking, and healthcare, instead of faggy "apps" and webshit
>600k starting
>godlike employment security
>designed to be written and read like English, more like "runnable pseudocode" than Pyshit could ever dream to be

I am the son of a poo in the loo and a mexican.
Montezuma' revenge and a street shiter combo.
forth is superior
Retard who can't learn to programming here. Would the syntax make it easier for a dipshit like me? Can you feasibly make fun things like IRC bots in COBOL?

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings made it abundantly clear that the company isn't going to rush to consumers aid as the FCC prepares to gut net neutrality. "We had to carry the water when we were growing up and we were small," Hastings said, "and now other companies need to be on that leading edge," stating also that "where net neutrality is really important is the Netflix of 10 years ago."
https://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Now-Successful-Net-Neutrality-No-Longer-Netflixs-Problem-139678
>>60784070
Translation: We're so big now we can use Net Neutrality to make sure no competitors can afford to challenge us.
This is basically Hulu/Netflix/Amazon slamming the door shut behind them.
>>60784070
You just figured that out? Netflix only cared about net neutrality because they didn't want to pay their peering agreement. Now they are a big company, and realized that net neutrality is actually bad for their business model.
>>60784070
They already paid like $50 million to the isps for throttling them not that long ago.
Does anyone know why this memory key (Disk 1 Drive F:) has no volumes? Trying to recover data
>>60783829
>memory key
say whaat
Does it have a partition table? Honest advice is try a Linux live cd, like systemrescuecd
>>60783888
Thankyou I will try this. Eh don't know how to check partition table. I've never done recovery before figured /g would know a bit more. I've tried most common things but this is the main problem because it can't be accessed to attempt recover.
why do you keep trying to transform hobby distros like arch and gentoo into your daily SO? it's not gonna happen anon
>>60783819
Arch isn't even. The shit just werks. Drop the '07 memes, already. Most distros are perfectly stable these days. Rice fags are the ones breaking things, not regular users.
fucking kill yourself you dumb makiposter
>>60783893
Does arch even have a proper installer?
>apple fell for the wait for vega meme
is there hope for us, amdbro's?
Daily reminder that threadripper is making Intel shit itself
All memes aside you gotta give credit to AMD for going ham on 2 tech giants despite having less money. Both nvidia and intel are shitting themselves right now desperately trying to rush out half baked housefires to undermine AMD.
AMD is the little train that could TWICE.

What are Apple thinking?
Starting med school in a bit and looking into getting a macbook pro or macbook. The main thing I'm between is getting the cheapest version of the new macbook versus the cheapest version of the new macbook pro. They both cost approximately the same.
All I'm going to be using it for are powerpoint slides, PDF readers, and an app called Essential Anatomy. All I care about is my computer not lagging and being able to handle multiple programs open at once (like safari, Essential Anatomy, pdf readers, powerpoint, etc)
>>60783431
As a medfag anon, you need to flaunt your status. You can't be a doctor and be using poorfag shit like a MacBook. Get the MacBook Pro, and even better is to get the highest spec model even though nobody can tell the difference.
>>60783431
You should probably get the Macbook Pro
>>60783431
you don't need a high powered computer to study you fucking faggot.
Name a better computer with features as this one?
>Protip:
You can't
>>60783288
My Computer?
Doesn't have as many cores, yet, but otherwise it's superior.
Threadripper is gonna make it a breast though.
>>60783305
Specs?
Also do you have LGBT lights in it?
Well my computer exists for starters
In this thread we list things that we would like to see on macOS that these fuckers actually forgot to include in High Sierra.
Let's start:
>Dark mode (you know, an actual one, not just the fucking drop down menus and top panel)
>A decent file and folder merging behavior
>Show/hide files with a fucking button
>>60783232
>>A decent file and folder merging behavior
What's wrong with the current one?
>>60783232
As a straight heterosexual white male that has never used macOs or whatever, can you get rid of that bottom bar bullshit? Will it still be functional?
You can hide it and if you need to open shit up just use spotlight
I want this /g/
Can I please buy it and put an ssd inside and not be made fun of?? pleeeeease!
I plan on learning to code with it and become some(non pajjet) software engineer's cuteboi
also which socks?
Bumpu
Or you can just buy a Surface Book and have the best Ultrabook currently out.
>>60783810
Thanks for the advice Microsoft, but that's expensive and I only really have enough for this one and it looks really nice too.
>tfw there will be no better mobile OS than this

still have my ipaq lying in a drawer somewhere, it was invincible with opera mini and mpc-hc like player. too bad it had no sim slot.
