what do you think about libgdx?
>>60880606
their gallery of things made with it reminds me of those dodgy free flash game sites of old
it's okay, but I prefer Unity or Pixi.js with electron
>>60880606
It's excellent, the way the API is laid out with static functions makes a lot of sense and the 3D api is well made.
Hello fellow /g/uys, does anyone have any idea how to build a proper low cost but functional Stickless Arcade Stick? I have seen some outdated guides on the internet, but in the end they just lead to dead links, miss crucial steps, or are just awful. Anyone can land a hand?
>>60880602
Solder the arcade buttons on a cheap USB joystick PCB.
Or:
Buy a USB controller circuit.
Or:
Buy a Teensy/Arduino and configure it manually.
>>60880741
I don't have a wielder of any sorts, got any alternatives?
>>60880602
It's a hitbox.
>in a masters of informatics program
>winblows update broke the start menu so the shutdown button is gone
>pajeets confused because "how turn off computer?"
>open cmd and type "shutdown /s"
>gawk at me like im some kind of wizard
>"did you break computer?????"
>it's the two-thousand and seventeenth year of our lord
>it's a MASTERS IN INFORMATICS program
>a single command in cmd is confusing to these people
how did we get here
>my shitty meme attempt from yesterday failed, let's try again xDDDD

fuck off
>>60880129
thanks for the bump :D
>>60880105
Next time remember there is also shutdown menu under Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
Oh. And my start menu broke too.
So where's that 144hz 1440p ultrawide, /g/?
>>60879986
>144hz 1440p ultrawide
well meme'd my friend
Locked behind a £1000 premium
>>60879986
I'm using 1440p and 144hz but not ultra wide. Have been using it for maybe over a year now, it was like £650 or £700 when I got it though.
Whats the proper order to learn stuff in order to learn computer science?
For cpus it seems you need to learn logic gates first, which require a background in transistors, diodes and semiconductors and quantum numbers. Idk help a guy out
Learn how to read.
Learn math up to algebra.
You can now become computer scientist if you put in effort.
>>60879632
Start with this book
I'be been wondering the same desu I wanna learn about computer science but YouTube tutorials are cancer and I haven't found any good books yet pls recommend something
APOLOGIZE
>>60879465
What? That's Chelsea Manning.
>>60879465
tell me again why I should feel sorry for someone who leaks classified military documents anonymously and then brags about it to his friends.
I'd like to buy that friend a beer, honestly.
Chelsea Manning didn't do it for a noble cause, he just wanted to brag about it, which is why she got caught.
I hope he gets hanged in public desu
>>60879465
Care to explain?
I have been looking at getting a new hard drive, and started thinking how cheap can I make a some type rig to reach a 1000tb of space. Also sas drives are not cheap.
>>60879428
If I would to take everything I have in the house that would be maybe 15tb
>>60879439
I'm at about 23TB used on my HDD array and another 2TB used on my SSD array. Eitherway OP is retarded and couldnt afford to power all those HDDs.

What does /g/ think about VR in it's current state and it's future?
Companies are developing VR applications for training/simulation purposes at a loss (conjecture but probably true). Does VR have any kind of future?
I work at a steel company that machines/casts our own stuff and we are developing VR apps for the equipment and small simulation/games about how to safely operate them. still in development but the company wants to use it for training and to possible sell/lease it to similar companies.
What does /g/ think?
>Current state
Useful and fun for some niche applications, but still too immature of a tech for mainstream appeal. But the project you mentioned might be one of the things it can do well even today. When learning about something like equipment, or designing something like steel casts, it would certainly help to be able to freely inspect it from all angles etc.
>Future
Very bright for sure. It will take some time but I still believe VR devices will be almost as ubiquitous as 2D monitors are today, at some point. So much of the media we have tries to represent 3D information. It simply doesn't make sense to stick to 2D display devices if we don't have to.
>>60880882
I'd also expect VR headsets to be a solid contender instead of traditional desktop monitors for productivity purposes
Its a stupid gimmick like 3D TV
Hey /g/ I need some help in choosing a new laptop. My ancient trusty desktop has finally met her demise from outside circumstances and instead of replacing the old girl I'd prefer to get a laptop to replace the even older one I've been using instead of the desktop. Reason being im doing a lot more traveling now and I'd like to be able to game and be generally productive on the go (emailing, writing reports, documents and spreadsheets, nothing like photoshop or anything)
Power isn't a terrible issue since most of my stationary time will be spent in hotel rooms/family homes and in my own home on my down time.
Preferred price range is around 600 ish dollars. I understand that with laptops you surrender modularity and power for portability and convenience so I'm willing to go higher though I'd still like to keep it sub 1000
Wifi is a must, a fairly robust build quality is preferred and It should preferably be compatible with windows seven and be able to play most games up to 2016 at 60fps.
Any suggestions? my own internet search has thus far been largely fruitless.
Also general gaming laptop thread I suppose, it's a large gap in my knowledge and experience and anything I can learn is helpful.
Nobody?
>wifi is a must
Wow, pretty hard to find a laptop with wifi in 20fucking17
>>60879256
wifi over 4g or any data plans as I will never be far from a wifi source was the intended meaning
I wish there was a screen I could strap to my face
Not necessarily vr.
But a small portable screen that I put on my face and gives me a completely fine desktop environment / thing I can play normal games on would be great
Is the impossible?
I just thought of this cause I'm sick of dragging a monitor everywhere when I have to move my pc
If you're actually serious, vive lighthouse/Oculus Camera on desk, VR headset with either Virtual Desktop ($15) or BigScreen ($0), or you could try to use your phone and VRidge as a headset instead.
If you really don't want a monitor, buy a headless dongle (so your graphics card outputs a standard resolution) and set SteamVR to run automatically, and then you can access your desktop natively through SteamVR or other applications through the programs above.
Although for all the trouble (and mula) you're going to, might as well just use a monitor.
>>60878962
So I should give up?
>>60878962
sounds good, excited to get a vive even more so now
Why are all phones made for phonelets and ones that are not chinky pieces of shit or hate your freedom?
Just give me a small bezel 6 inch AMOLED screen with front facing speakers and USB-C how hard is this for phone makers? Nexus 6 did this 3 years ago.
Phonelets are holding us back.
Pic related, best phone ever created.
Why stop there? We need phones that are 7 or even 8 inches.
>>60878679
t. fat fuck
Isn't that called a Nexus 6P, or is that too much bezel for you?
I'm tired of this fucking attitude that people have about tech.
From now on, I'm just gonna tell people I'm glad their shit doesn't work and I have no pity on their inability to fix it.
Why don't you tell them to learn how to use a computer like anybody else instead?
>>60878493
Cause they're close friends and I don't want them suffering. This shit has happened too many times and I guess I'm just done helping them:
>someone complains about thing bothering them
>tell that can be easily fixed so they don't have to deal with it anymore
>they get hostile and just say the product is fucking garbage
>>60878524
>Cause they're close friends and I don't want them suffering. This shit has happened too many times and I guess I'm just done helping them:
I think the problem is that you're a doormat and think you should be a servant for everyone in your life my man, look, they get mad at you suggesting you can fix it because it means they arent better than you which breaks their illusions, you need to stop throwing yourself at people's feet to benefit them, you werent born to serve people.
I'll be finishing highschool this year. Can't afford to go to college or university yet. can't take out student loans.
What coding language(s) would be best to learn for my career?
>>60878438
Java, Javascript, Ruby, PHP, or C#
Check out Glassdoor and see what companies are hiring for for Junior Developers in your area and for how much
>>60878461
Cool, learning java now. The salaries for junior developers seem pretty bad in my country... I could make more money selling sweets on the street corner. Average is about $19 500 per year with 5 years experience. It's not a bad living, bit by no means is it a comfortable one
>he thinks he can get a coding job after completing a course on code academy
How did you guys teach yourself to program? Books, uni, online lessons?
>>60878406
all of the above. practice is more important than any of that though.
>>60878434
I use all of the above. Finding a reason to program is the best way to learn. Join a project, find friends who program, and always talk to people.
>>60878406
On the job.
How much have prosthetics advanced in the last 10 years? How much more can they/will they advance? Will it get to the point where people are literally paying an arm and a leg for new cybernetics?
>>60878052
A little bit. A lot. Maybe. We still have a ways to go. We still don't have a good way to interface with nerve tissue or even attach the damn things to people.
Nerve interfaces tend to kill nerve cells, the difference in stiffness between the prosthetic and the body creates loads of problems
>>60878097
How close do you think near-perfect cybernetics are?
>>60878191
problem is the connection. I don't think nobody solved the whole melding metal/flesh without side effects yet.
