CPUs:
>G4560 - budget builds (<$500) unless G4600/G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>R5 1500x - generally all you need for 60fps with power to spare. No i5
>R5 1600 - best value for higher fps gaming & mixed usage; 1600x if you too lazy to OC
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper/ - compute/Multitask/mixed use
Graphics:
>G4560 iGPU is fine for desktop stuff and very light game
>1050Ti for low budget. Drop settings if not Freesync/Gsync on newer games; RX560 if discounted <$90
>RX570 4GB - 1080p@60+hz, running most maxed; older games at 144+hz
>RX580 8GB - 1440p@60+hz, inject SMAA & drop settings
>1060 - Generally outperformed by the RX 580 and GSync costs more; consider if AMD is not an option (ie CUDA/miners buying all RX400/500s)
>1070 - if on sale/can't afford 1080
>1080 - 1080p@100-144+hz maxed; 1440p at lower hz.
>1080Ti - 1440p@90-144+hz; 4k@60hz in SOME games, more at lower settings
General:
>READ PRODUCT REVIEWS to see if that cheap SSD/PSU or whatever is reliable
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity/scratch disk/VMs
>Stop confusing any M.2 drive with NVMe. M.2 is a form factor
>mATX board + case is often cheaper
>1 SR DIMM is slower than 2 DIMMs
Haha
At exactly the same price, which mobo is better?
ASUS B350-F Gaming Strix or
MSI B350 Gaming Pro Carbon
The anus one is slightly more appealing to me, but then it has no PS/2 while the msi has one combo port
does ps/2 even matter today?

oh wow
What was the moment like when you realized that you were retarded, /g/? For me, it was cracking open this book. I felt pretty proud of myself for getting past all the math for my CS degree, but this book has crushed any ounce of pride I had...
trying to install gentoo for the first time thinking it'd be like installing arch
arch is like installing linux mint or ubuntu but without the gui
>>60928007
Thinking I was good for learning Ancient Greek, then looking at Sanskrit.
Literally the hardest thing I've ever seen.
I can't even understand the goddamn Bitcoin whitepaper
Got offered this as a gift. Should I accept?
Great thread OP!
>>60928020
So is that a yes?
>>60927998
Accept it faggot.
Hey /g/ look at this
<-
It's a pilot run keyboard / prototype of the think/travel keyboard with ultranav made back in 2003. It's in pristine condition and works flawlessly. Comes in a leather bag I can post in a bit.
What do you think it's worth? I dont want to sell it just wondering.
Label
Garbage.
Throw it out but piss on it first.
NFI what it's worth, but neat find.
>type in password wrong by 1 character
>it works
>type in password
>already taken by another user
>>60927952
Is this real?
Kek which website was this?
That's some lax password checking.
Likely they just trim your password down to 8 characters or whatever and then just use that
I recommend testing to see what level of error tolerance is allowed to hone your password attacks.
>walk into tech store to buy gpu
>see this
wat do?
Stab him in the kidney in the parking lot with a spork. Then take one and leave the 200 dollars on his bloody coat and tell him to not look like such a try hard faggot.
>>60927930
No, that is not going far enough. Let him do his business, then trail back to his house, and kill him and his entire family. Stuff monopoly money into their mouths, so that the world gets the message.
And get his neighbours, too.
Give him the suicide help hotline for when bitcoin crashes
If there is one, what is AyyMD's equivalent of this?
>>60927899
It's AMD and they use ReLive.
>>60927899
Are you retarded?
Just get a ryzen, problem solved.
Don't have to use nvidia's telemetry drivers
> Made with <3 in California
what did you buy?
>>60927880
some kind of dildo maybe? im not sure.
Would you rather have the truth?
>made with piss in my mom's basement
Discuss and share analog technology [here defined as electronic or other fine machinery which uses continuous physical quantities such as voltage or pressure to control its behavior rather than discrete digital instructions.] in this thread!
In our age of digital everything, the Internet of Things and the "always-onlinification" of every day items, sometimes it is comforting to appreciate having items like clocks, electric organs, thermometers, vinyl records, and metronomes.

We miss you.
I'm looking for the smallest (footprint) headless PC to host my personal website (which gets ~0 hits per day) and run a Deluge daemon (for torrents to my NAS).
MINIX NEO Z83-4 looks like the kind of thing I had in mind; is there any reason why I shouldn't get this? Any other suggestions?
What you are looking for is literally a raspberry pi.
>>60927786
I'm not really into memes.
>>60927832
Buy a cheap netbook and configure Windows(Or Linux) accordingly so closing the lid will not put the computer to sleep. I use laptops as servers at home and it's 100x better than having a large desktop.
>compile gcc with -Ofast
>replace current installation
>repeat for infinitely improved code optimization

amazing

why even live
I was thinking about hosting a webserver on a Raspberry pi zero w.
I plan on using said server to store some images and a mysql database to use for some android apps
Would it work or would the Raspberry crap itself?
whats the ram on that
Use AWS instead
>>60927734
It has 512mb
>>60927751
Is that better?
I have a problem with my pc (win 10). I have two screens and sometimes the screens die and one goes completely white and the other completely blue until I restart the computer.
I thought the problem was my graphics card, but I checked the drivers 100 times and even had it stress tested on another machine yet there it works fine. Obviously checked for viruses and malware. Any ideas what the problem might be? I know this isn't /techsupport/ but I'm fucking clueless.
