I am worried I just bought a 700$ shitposting machine. I don't really play video games much but I am not sure what to do with my processing power(Ryzen 1600).
Please help.

Lately I have become fond of the Unix philosophy. As a software developer it relieves me from meaningless complications. So I thought I should try FreeBSD.
My question is whether I am able to run my Ryzen 1700X with RX570 easily in FreeBSD 11? Are they upto date with kernel compatibility?
Also, general BSD thread.

It's like you want your system to get owned and backdoored. Your soul will be owned and raped forever unless you use Linux or OpenBSD.
Even though Linux is only Unix-like, it follows the Unix philosophy more closely than any modern incarnation of Unix. And you know, at this point I don't think OpenBSD is even worth working on these days because Linux has already had so much put into it.
Call that a sunk cost fallacy, but I'm just being realistic here.

How much virtue signaling do we have to take?
Obligatory >>/pol/
It's pandering, not signalling. Difference being pandering makes money.
>>60998082
>we have to take?
what we? You don't have to take anything. Does someone force you to use their services? Simply do not use Google products and be free.

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU WRAP THESE THINGS
I KNOW ABOUT OVER UNDER ON STRAIGHT CABLES BUT WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO WITH SPIRAL CABLE?
WHY THE FUCK DO PEOPLE MAKE THESE THINGS
fold it over a few times, depending on length.
put inside a bag.
fold bag to keep the cable from moving inside.
done.
>>60998167
What the fuck do you mean "fold it over"?
You could put them in sandwich bags and just say fuck it to wrapping them altogether. or throw them in the trash, since I cant really think of anything that uses or used those other than rotary phones
Hey I'm new to /g/ so I apologize if this is a dumb thread. I've always had an interest in computers but never took it to the next level to learn programming or Linux or anything like that.
Anyway, what would be a good Linux distro for somebody to start with to learn how to use Linux? I've heard Ubuntu is good for noobs but is it too easy? I'd like to actually learn as I'm using Linux so I can get proficient with it. Would Mint be good for this purpose?
>>60997739
fedora is nice. ubuntu has its flaws but it's not *that* bad for beginners.
use the stupid questions thread for this kind of stuff next time
If you're too dumb to read the sticky on top of the fucking page I'm terribly sorry, you won't have a good time with GNU/LInux.

Mac users are statistically smarter than wintards. Mac users are also more likely to have a college degree, while wintards are more likely to be fat manchildren obsessed with video games.
How old are you?

My Desktop is still running with an Athlon II X4 620. Most games still run, at least I played Fallout 4 until I got bored of it. I was the 100 Bucks, cheapest quad-core when it came out. I don't use it much and it off most of the time. Most of the time I'm using my Thinkpad T60 which is still only a 32-Bit Dual-Core CPU. For compiling code I usually use an Thinkpad T400 which has a 64-Bit Dual-Core CPU. For some downloading or tasks that don't require a lot attention, I use an old (older than those Thinkpads) Acer Aspire with AMD dual-core.
Honestly, I already feel kinda overpowered and just can't understand the hype on new Hardware. The botnet is bad enough to prevent one from buying new shit but even ignoring that I still don't feel like buying anything.
Make a reasonable point why you need new Hardware and why can't it be some refurbished and cheaper older model. Hope you can shine some light on this matter because I kind of feel like sageing any "new hardware" threads because they're getting annoying.

You need separate computers just to perform normal tasks I'd do simultaneously on modern hardware.
Why have a special computer just for downloading things? Or a special code-compiling computer?

best/most aesthetic standalone caller-id?
>>60997153
I had an early Bell unit back when Caller ID was pretty new, and I read some thing on the Internet about removing a resistor to double the memory. It worked.
It had quite a large screen, it was nice.

yeah they probably just locked a bank out with a resistor in the assembly process
it worked, I went from 50 to 99 numbers

I need to buy a new laptop, what would you guys suggest?
I've got some stuff I'm looking at, but I want to see what you guys suggest.
What's your price range?
>>60996721
Uh, up to 700 bucks or so. Tax deductable expense, so meh. Don't require a powerhouse, I have a gaming desktop for actual work like autocad and stuff.
I need to split the difference between that and a chromebook. I've been eyeing convertible stuff, but I don't know anything about those. Aka, surfacebook and other offerings.
I would recommend ASUS brand laptops, they're pretty cheap and good for what you get, i use their ROG brand for my main laptop and it's pretty good for my daily use (CS:GO)
