I live in a middle eastern shithole and I want to use VPN so I can browse without being detected by my ISP, government, NSA, GCHQ, FBI and FSB.
I am planning to setup an openvpn server listening to port 443 so my traffic appears as if it's a normal HTTPS. The problem here is that the ISP can easily detect that I am connecting to one IP all the time (i.e. the VPN server). Is this more dangerous than just not using any VPN at all? will this make them notice me and monitor me closely?

I know this is an older graphics card but the whole comp is only $10 on Craigslist so I was debating purchasing it just for the parts.
I think it might be Pentium 4 and the power supply is rated at 335w, if either of those help narrow down the era or capabilities.
Any help is appreciated, this is my first time on tech board!

Also, general discussion of "dream offices" aka where 15 year olds want to work because they saw it in a FB post. Google and Facebook HQ are prime examples of this. They make the office your second home so you work for them more, basically making you their slave.
I miss the old days when if your boss wanted something, he would wait till tomorrow. If you were at Google, you'd be at a family reunion and you'd be the cuck saying "Sorry, gotta take this call—work." and leaving early to fix a compilation error. You'd be checking your work email at home, sending and receiving emails about shit at work. Why can't work stay at work? This is why I want to start a business, none of that cuckery. Of course, that comes with a bunch of bullshit too, but there are certain businesses that will always thrive. Food, for example, because everybody eats.

A tree severed the utility line that provided landline (POTS or PSTN) service to my house and Frontier refuses to fix it, instead forcing me onto their fiber service. They said i was the only one using that line and to replace it is prohibitive, also, the FCC is allowing the PSTN to sunset in 2020 anyway, so i wont have that line regardless in 3 years.
The area i live in experiences power outages pretty regularly (several hours long outages per month) and i used that to maintain internet connectivity, and as a SHTF phone should power go out for several days/weeks.
do we have no other alternative now?
Modems do not work on FIOS lines. How else can one continue to shit post online when the power is out?

The ONT (fiber connection) has a battery backup and uses ethernet. Depending on your install, you will either have ethernet (best) or have a MoCA adapter (worst, needs power). Just get ethernet run, save hassle.

The issue is with the FIOS. namely being the fact that when the power goes out, Internet goes away.
Frontier's ONTs (their new ones) DO NOT provide internet when the power is out. only VOIP service. and thats only for up to 8 hours.

Any serious devs here? How long are your unit tests?
I run a per function unit test on the backend
Run JavaScript tests in node
Then I boot a live instance and test everything with selenium on all browsers
Finally I run some tests on the dB to ensure all results from the previous tests have generated the correct data.
This is all automated of course but it takes around 3-5 hours to complete. So I run tests on what I am working on through the day then do a full build tests over night.
Is this too much? Thoughts?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I want to switch careers into web development (I do something completely unrelated now), but I'm 35 years old (I can pass for 25 years old if that matters and I am female if that matters) and don't have much of a portfolio except for some school projects I did for an associate web design degree I finished recently.
I live in Austin so I'm in a tech city that's very competitive.I applied for jobs for about a month after finishing my degree and didn't hear anything and got discouraged and just settled for continuing to work my same old job which I dislike intensely. Now I'm ready to give it another go and hopefully stick it out for longer than a month.
Right now I want to redo my portfolio, continue learning MEAN / MERN stack and get some projects onto my github.
Am I just fooling myself? Should I look into a less competitive field? Am I too old to bother at this point and should just pursue this as a hobby?
