it's the other way around. it can't OC for shit because it's made with a power efficient process.

Yeah, that's not right at all.

thanks, looks interesting and will give it a read.
I am still trying to warm up to React... mostly turned off by JSX.
Still it's so universally used, that I feel I am not going to make it very far, unless Vue gets a big bump in popularity and usage or I learn React.
help please :'(
I bought a y700 ideapad acz (I know, terrible idea, amd is shit and all, but I'm fucking broke and guy was selling it cheap) but the game performance is fucking GARBAGE, the dedicated gpu does not seem to be working properly. I've tried updating drivers, switching power modes, everything, and I still can't even get a solid 60fps on fucking runescape. I know i am a retard for buying this but is there anything I can do to make it work properly? I've seen this laptop play battlefield one and ff15 no problem but mine can barely run tyranny
Don't title your thread "Thinkpad help" if you are asking about an ideapad.

Hey /g/ I'm a tech noob, I had to take my laptop apart and put it back together because my cat knocked 20oz of water directly out onto it. Got it dried out completely and functioning fine and dandy now, but the fan connetion was pretty difficult to get in because of its size and I'm not sure it's connected all the way.
A little bit after turning it on for the first time it started blowing, but hasn't since. Just wondering if you people know of any programs that allow you to activate your CPU fan manually by some sort of prompt just so I can test the connection to make sure it's solid without yanking it all apart again.
what do the temps look like? if the temps are fine then it's normal for the fan to shut off
if the temps are high then you can be concerned about it
>>61084389
SpeedFan allows you to do that. At any rate, your fans should turn on automatically if your CPU gets a bit hot. Just run a few programs and it should turn on. If it doesn't turn on, then obviously something went wrong.
>>61084439
Yeah just ran SpeedFan and under "Select a fan" there's no fans listed whatsoever, seems like it might be not displaying the fan if it's not connected properly. Honestly I dunno how I could push that little bastard into its seat and harder though without risking damaging the board or the plug.
AMD disguising ads to look like real reviews. Be aware.
okay thanks
i'll buy amd because it always has better raw compute rather than what benchmarks compare it to instead now
>>61084289
and you're disguising your techpower advertisement as a shitpost
beware!
>>61084289
Thanks, bro.
wanna know why they skipped windows nine?? cus it was linux...and better!! ROFL!
shit you're right

you guys argue so much about operating systems that it's starting to get annoying. it shouldn't matter what the actual system is that you prefer, rather what you do to utilize it. if it can support a plethora of libraries that you need to build things quickly, then it's good for your case. if you want something prebuilt that's able to support file formats you need, then it's good for that case as well. for a computer that has a quick to route filesystem, then it's yours.
what i want to know is, how does the notion of 'this is autistic' or 'this is nonfree' make any sense as arguments? why not actually tackle the fundamental performance differences between applications from respective systems? that or at least target the system itself, not its users. i don't hide behind one label or brand, but i don't think a passive outlook is healthy. we should be able to bring some form of diplomacy between what you like/need, and what you philosophize about like a mantra for what an OS should be like.
To that end, i think my notions fit a system that could fufill my need for privacy because i will be working on a lot of code that's secret. basically, i don't want someone to take it from me and then close source/patent it as theirs. i think subgraph OS is my choice. that or hardened gentoo but building an OS from scratch isn't something i'm too accustomed with. i've only tried arch, mint, plan9 and crunchbang.
to make this less of a blog, discuss aspects you would like in an OS.
For me, I want an operating system which doesn't require too much additional effort to set it up, comes with a prebuilt non-abomination design language and has a very stable repo. I think debian testing hits this spot very well.
As for OP, any computer with internet connection disabled will fit your needs, if you are going to work with confidential code.
>>61084125
>subgraph OS
>grsec
I guess you could say that the OS went under.
>>61084540
you mean like how your gf went under my sheets?
>Have 500 bucks

Maybe I should just get a new 1080p
This shit's outrageous
>RGBW
it means not true 4k?
>>61084106
Basically yes
It shoves a white pixel in with every fourth rgb I think it is
It looks like shit
It's not real 4k, although it technically is
Buy a hisense 4k hdr set
Should I sell my machine for $400 so I can buy a vehicle?
I lost my job and alot of assets and had to move back in with my mom. And she doesn't have internet. So I can't really enjoy playing games.
It has
>gtx 680
>i5
>8gb ram
>1 TB HDD
Do you think it's a completely fucked idea, or the responsible thing to do?
Doubt you can get that much.
>>61084076
If you get lucky someone might pay u 200.
I'm selling similiar machine with 500gb ssd+1tb hdd
for 3months.
>>61084092
I've already got a buyer lined up. My main thing is it would take me at least $600 to build the same machine later on when I have extra money. So am I fucking myself here or fucking somebody else, because this dude is the first serious buyer.
One dude that owns a computer repair shop went out of his way to tell me I'm retarded for asking $600 and to get fucked. So idk
Can linux users even be considered part of the PCMR (PC Master Race)?
I'm thinking not because they care more about freedom than games.

Eh it was fun while it lasted, rip AMD
Doesn't matter how hot it gets or how expensive it is or how much power it draws, it performs better, all that matters

Ok then. We shall have to disagree on that one my friend.
