This is an experimental BSD thread for anyone willing to discuss, help newbies or learn more about BSD in general.
I'll start. Anyone here using FreeBSD on their Raspberry Pi 3? It seems FreeBSD has more up to date packages than Raspbian has, so I'm considering switching.
Polite bump

Is there a way to manage non BSD/non ZFS partitions, such as on external disks? Specifically OpenBSD but I'd like to know if there's anything for BSD at all.
Also, how do I make it lock once I close the lid on my Thinkpad x220?
And is there a way to make the Thinkvantage button work? I've tried the tpb package but it doesn't seem to recognize input (tpb -v and pressing the button gives no verbose)
One last thing, my laptop feels rather sluggish under OpenBSD, it's the i5-2520m model, so it should be good enough, but CPU usage with Firefox can reach up to more than 100% (???), it also sucks the ram out of my machine (xfce+all my packages only need 150 so why does ff need 2gigs lol)
it's not just ff, it's sluggish in general, which i presume wouldn't happen with windows
to the point- what do i do to speed it up? it's not a hardware issue 100%. if it runs well with windows why wouldn't it run well with such a lightweight os?
>>61150785
also to OP's questions, I'm not using BSD on the Pi but I don't think there's a reason it wouldn't work properly. software compatibility as i've stated before is lacking and you're gonna have to get used to it as it's a bit different than linux, if you're only looking for up to date packages make sure you're willing to compromise not even having some packages. so take that into consideration
overall it depends on your needs

nvidia had to install a hardware sc for the first time after the series 7xx and here the results on volta
It seems that both Volta and Vega will have power consumpion problems in consumer cards

Did you guys know bash for windows already supports several distros like ubuntu, debian, and fedora, as well as being able to run graphical applications that you install from apt-get?
It looks like microsoft is not kidding this time.

It was like six years ago (wow it's been a long time) and the only reason it happened was because I had my jack connection on the floor (don't do this) like a retard
Ever since then I've made it a rule that I only plug my cable into something that is at least kneecap level. That and I only buy detachable cables now, the M50x didn't exist back then but if it did I could have just bought a replacement cable for like $20 and saved myself a lot of trouble. Plus I guess I was just rough with my headphones but I found anything with a fixed cable tended to fray at the driver connection in about a years time and then the cable either had to be replaced or the headphones had to be trashed.
Help /hpg/! Whats is this phone??
need some recommendations for a mid fi level universal iem
>Budget
flexible but prefer to stay around 800 aud
>Location
Australia
>Source
chord mojo or straight from a samsung s7
>Type of headphone
universal iem, ba drivers are preferred
>Comfort level
high
>Sound signature
preferably neutral, i dont mind slight bass or treble boost but would rather have a decent soundstage and flat responds than having nigger bass in my face
>Past headphones
cans are hd700 and vmoda m100
iems are se215 and jh angie
so far ive been looking at se535, noble 6, ath e70 and campfire nova but according to reviews ive read they all seems to fall short on some aspect, any recommendations are appreciated
what's the point of this?

run on as many platforms as possible no matter how shittily
it's a godsend for the few obscure ones the maintainers actually pay attention to though
it sees use in some of the weirdest places, due to it's focus on portability, the way drivers are done on it makes it easier to port to new platforms
Keeping things alive that should have died decades ago.
ITT: gimmicks you wish were viable
An AA battery phone charger sounds neat, but it just simply cant charge a phone worth a damn
Least it also doubles as an Rechargeable battery charger

is it a meme or do they legut sell good cables?
>>61150127
>monoprice
good as chinese cables
Good quality for the price.
Both.
Some of their cables aren't amazing but good enough (Wii s-video cables for instance)
As far as HDMI cables go as long as the cables aren't literally broken or out of spec you don't need expensive cables

Hey /g/,
Finally decided to get a VPN for our home connection.
-I plan to torrent
-Feels like the connection is being throttled sometimes
What VPN is best?
OpenVPN is good but you have to cough up the money for a VPS.
Nordvpn is solid
I use windscribe, got a lifetime subscription to it.
I can get about 80% of my line speed with it which is pretty good for a 300/300 connection.

Hey guys, my stepfather is a pilot and he was just explaining to me how there is this cabal of guys at FedEx who have some kind of software that snipes the best available flights for them.
Basically, if you're a FedEx pilot, you pick your flights for the month online. Some flights are preferable because they pay more, are easier, etc. So there's this group of infamous guys who always get the better flights because they're more tech-savvy. It's apparently a known aspect of the company's inner workings.
Anyway, I'm trying to figure out what the fuck they might be using. I can get some more info about the flight scheduling platform itself if you guys have any questions for him.
I know it's a shot in the dark, but does anybody have any experience with what I'm describing or something similar?
I'd imagine that the software isn't that distinctly different from, say, eBay sniping software.
Interesting

Probably just a scraper with basic html post capabilities. I read an article once about a dev that got hired to build a system that did this exact thing except with car auctions for a group of of dealerships. I can't find it now but it was a good read
