Does firefox WANT to lose users? For fucks sake, is it too much to ask that I can set a custom website to replace new tab on android? Who legitimately enjoys that atrocity of a page?
>>61214517
I do. Gives me quick access to sites I go to.
>>61214597
99% of the time if i'm opening a new tab, it's to search startpage. The other 1% of the time, i just type the first 2-3 letters of a website in the url and it takes me there.
>>61214517
Use the extension new tab homepage.
Help me /g/, my old HD6970 just went full retard and is blasting its fan at 100% all the time. Controlling the fan manually in CCC doesnt do shit, and Ive already cleaned and updated drivers and nothing works.

Send help, Im going deaf.
clean reinstall drivers with DDU
>>61214522
>Ive already cleaned and updated drivers and nothing works.
Did this using DDU in safe mode.
>>61214512
The fan controller has failed. Not much to be done other than installing a third party cooler, but is it really worth it for a 6970?
so what do u guys use and why
Vlc but it has a cia backdoor

Why am I not hearing more about this OS/Project?
It looks like a perfect meme OS! Has anyone tried to install it and use it on a real hardware?

>>61214390
I tried plan9 from user space which recreates the environment of plan9 on a Unix like OS, in my case Ubuntu. It was an interesting experience but I wouldn't use it everyday.
Might as well install TempleOS at this point
>>61214390
Because it focuses on theory, not novelty .

Hai /g/.
I have an old PC that I built in 2012. It has an i3 2120 and a HD6870. Its important to mention the i3 has temp issues and probably needs new thermal paste.
I bought PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds, but I only get around 1 frame every 2 seconds. Now the game is very unoptimized still, and is very CPU intensive. I was looking at buying a GTX1050Ti, but I dont know if that would fix the issue. Could my CPU be throttling? Any other people playing with an old i3?
Thanks!
>>61214036
>game is cpu intensive
>lets buy a GPU
lmao might as well buy a used i5 PC or some shit
>>61214048
It is about equally GPU and CPU intensive, and i Read about that after ordering the GPU. i cancelled the order
>>61214070
i'd grab a used 2500/2500k off of ebay for like $40 before spending money on a new GPU my dude
Aside from bodned xDDDD tinfoil, what other reasons are there to use GNU/Linux above windows?
you will get more bitches
You set up your linux/gnu once and spend 10 hours fixing shit, you will never have a problem with linux again once you configurate it to your demands.
You set up your windows and spend 3 hours in settings, anti virus alarm gets off, computer shuts down, blue screen. Spend 20 hours googling your problems, send it to a repair shop, get it back 3 weeks later with a deformed case but it works again.
>>61214010
1) It's free as in "it costs no money"
2) It's highly configurable (DE, WM...)
3) Unix-like architechture is comfy as fuck
4) You don't have to download unsecure .exe from the interwebs to have softwares, just use the packet manager.
5) Software updates are centralised.
6) You have a total control over your machine (no suprise updates, no telemetry, etc...)
7) Windows is not Gentoo
If you want help:
>Assemble your parts list
https://pcpartpicker.com/
>State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA).
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate.
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (kind of outdated)

CPUs:
>G4560 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>i7 7700k - only for 144hz
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/mixed use; Not required for just gaming
GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits from high speed RAM
General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
The Ryzen lineup comes with exceptionally good stock coolers. (with the exception of the 1600X) consider using them over any sub 35USD cooler.
>>61213980
I need a "cheap" 1440p 144hz monitor. None of that overpriced predator shit. I don't care if it has gsync.
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/DQVJd6
Do I even need the 3rd party cooler if I don't intend to do heavy overclocking right off the bat?
I will need to find some wireless network-card as well. Any suggestions?
>>61214011
Yes, yes you do. Also the past clearly states Ryzen benefits from faster memory. Try 3000 or even 3200Mhz, Ryzen was so much worse than Intel alternatives when reviewed on broken mobos that couldn't hit 3ghz.
In my opinion any cheap tp-link card will do and then if you need better range you can start toying with adding better antennas.

Great thread, let me join. Which brand to buy ? How do you apply it on a ps4 pro and is it really worth it ? thankks
>>61213868
Using one of these?
So I've been fixing up (really just cleaning and refreshing) a PS3 controller and now right on my D-pad doesn't work. Can't figure why, it seems to be pressing right, it's positioned correctly, etc. Anyone got any sense?
Also general fixing/modding/etc thread
It sounds like >>>/diy/ would be more helpful.
