Sorry if this isn't allow on /g/ but /mu/ told me this belongs here.
I've started to create my own music and want to record but have no idea where to start. I downloaded reaper (free) and started teaching myself that but I still need a decent mic and headphones. The equipment doesn't need to last me forever as I'll probably buy more as I get better but I'd like to get the best equipment for the price. I'm willing to spend $100 on a mic and around $75 on a set of headphones.
>>61307824
Try audio Technica or condenser microphones. Also for headphones I would recommend anything over 50 but under 100$.
>>61307824
So for headphones, I'd highly recommend Westone UM Pro 30s just because they're really flat and have almost no soundstage at all. They're also non-proprietary unlike their Shure competitors. But if you're looking for over/on-ear headphones, I don't really know much, so probably go to the /hpg/ general here.
>>61307824
It's probably wise to get a Shure SM58 for versatility, plug that into an interface (rec. Focusrite Scarlett series) and get some monitors so you can hear yourself.

It's the year of the Windows Subsystem for Linux.

Why do people from the UK constantly use """Uni""" as if it's a broadly accepted colloquialism?
I posted this last night, but got no good responses:
I'm not going to say why this happened, but lets just say that I deleted a large Windows partition in Gparted and now my computer won't even start. I try to go into the boot menu, and nothing happens. I try to go into BIOS menu, and nothing happens. I even tried to boot directly from a Linux Mint USB, and nothing happens.
I can't remove the hard drive from the laptop, so I don't know what to do. Please help!
Pic related is similar to what it looks like when the boot freezes.
>>61307523
Sounds pretty bad. Is the hard drive soldered in?

Here is my build so far.

The problem I am currently having is that the Pic related cooler, a H7 Quad Lumi is out of stock everywhere I have looked. Downgrading to the original H7 would mean I would need a "free" adapter from the manufacturer. Everything I have read says they ship very late and the install is a pain in the ass. I have been looking around for other AM4 out of box compatible coolers but I must just suck at hunting today cause I can't find anything in over an hour of searching that gives a definitive answer.

How strange. Searching newegg for am4 coolers only brings up H7s. Thanks mate
>>61307363
Is the performance I would lose going with 1700X made up for with a Ti?
What comes after digital?
first there was analog and then digital. now what
Quantum
Is there anything bad with digital?
>>61307180
Quantum computing isn't going mainstream anywhere.
How do I move files to the Wine file explorer? Or copy and paste files from the file explorer to desktop?
If you want help:
>Assemble your parts list

>State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560/G4600 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R5 1400 - Cheapest quad core you can get (Ryzen 3 soon)
>R5 1500x - Good but up to 1600 if you can
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; 1600x if you want higher stock clocks
>i7 7700k - 144hz only
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use; Not for just gaming
GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM
General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.
The Ryzen lineup comes with surprisingly good stock coolers. consider using them over any <$30 cooler.
Buying used is perfectly fine for budgets (PSU excluded)

Seriously? What even is this? Every other distro works fine and the most mainstream one that is supposed to work out of the box fails?
Also, Chromium has no problems with this. What is going on with Firefox on Ubuntu? How do I fix this? Thank you.
