I expect you'll be gathering this data to create a /g/-approved distro ranking
I've been getting into programming with code academy and internet tutorials recently, and I've really taken a liking to it.
I'm currently trying to learn python and css for basic program making and whatnot.
Tell me some good books /g/oys

Anon, why are you running away from the botnet? do you have something to hide?
I was using mpv since it's drag/drop and you can set it to default open in players so you can just browse with Windows and open that way (which is what I do anyways). But, it's command line, so to use any features more complex than opening/playing, I'd need to do that. So I went with bakamplayer since that has a nice "open copy link" option for streaming.
But it hasn't been updated in 2 years. What other mpv option should I use?

Why not just edit the .desktop file's exec line? Or create multiple for different situations?

firefox

I used chrome for the past 5 years or so.
Got a new PC a few days ago and switched to firefox just because chrome UI is ugly, i hate how the tab icons look, especially the new tab button.
What are your thoughts on the new cybersecurity bundle?
>>61436577
Mildly interesting but I can't stand reading ebooks, I'd literally have to print out the entire book resulting in as much cost as just buying a physical copy
how do i bypass the region lock?
Gonna wait for someone to upload them to Mega.

What am I looking at?

It's a 34mm single slot UBS 3.0 expresscard. It requires extra 5v DC power to run, so it has that 2nd port for power input, you can use an AC wall wart to provide power, or use up one of the regular USB ports on the laptop to provide power to the USB 3.0 port.
hey /g/
what are your opinions on rust and why people should and should not use it?
poo in roo
>>61436413
Rust adds unnecessary and sometimes counter productive safety precautions and thus it makes developers frustrated.
>>61436477
Rust isn't OOP, C++ is, idiot
I've tried to play with rust to have a practical feeling before criticising a new langage.
It was a horrible experience.
Just look at this snap from the src file cell.rs and you won't need any more explanation why rust must be avoided.
wanna learn linux in just 5 days ?
And level up my career???
Also, I'm buying watches at $0!
No thanks, I don't want Lennart Poettering's cock in my ass.

Just wait for the rx 690 with better clocks if the 580 vs 480 is anything to go by

>Where the fuck is Vega?
in Budapest.
>implying vega is going to be anything worthwhile after amd failed so miserably with ryzen
Which CPU would be faster, a 4 core w/ HT or 6 core w/o? Equal clocks, same architecture.
>>61436088
Depends on the program, most programs aren't designed to use more than 4 cores, so in that case then HT is better, otherwise 6 core is better.
>>61436183
That's not how it works. Programs cannot distinguish between physical and logical cores, you don't have to optimize for 8/8 if say it already supports 4/8.
>>61436088
Depends on the workload(s). Some workloads can benefit greatly from hyperthreading, others get 0 scaling or even performance regressions.
From a purely MT standpoint, the 6c nonHT would win in almost all cases as it has more resources available than the 4c8t, as it has 2 more real cores.
How can you pretend to use GNU/Linux if it's not Source Mage ?
I can't.
Installing Source Mage right now.
