I have tried to use Tor Browser here on 4chan but I can't post because of muh proxies or something. I usually jujst use FireFox and post on other boards here but I wonder what info this site gets from me. IF I comment does it keep a record or if I upload a photo does it strip away the metadata in the picture? I know this place is anon, but I really want to be completely anon. Can I use a VPN to post here? Sorry for the newfag stuff.

Fairly certain they don't strip away metadata unless they only started doing it recently.

vultr:
$2.5/month Sydney (512mb, 500gb)
I don't think they sell it anymore but for the price a server like that here is oz is crazy cheap.
It doesn't do much for now, but it's got wp installed on it for when I move my site over. I also use it to transfer files when I need it.

Digital ocean: I was using this before vultr, works fine but I moved to vultr for 1/2 the cost and a local server. Vultr I think copied the GUI for DO, they look and interact the same.

Cloutatcost: the gravy train has ended would not recommend but I got my moneys worth out of it. I used a few of them in one for for relay and seedbox.
>>
ovh
£2.50/mo (2GB / 10GB)
Not a lot of disk space, but can easily add more and I'm just using it for a simple website to host my projects, great price for that.
>>
>>61685316
KVM or Openvz? I almost went with Vultr. Two years ago I had ramnode but left for Cloudatcost. By far, the worst VPS I have ever used and I wasted hundreds thinking their "lifetime" would save me money in the long run. Ended up going back to ramnode. God have I missed them.. Never tried Digital Ocean before. I really had a hard time trying a different VPS after the cloudatcost experience..

>>61685372
How is service and uptime with ovh? Almost sounds too good to be true. Sorry, I'm coming from a bad experience with cloudatcost.

guy on CL that i just bought a 1tb HD from an hour ago is offering me 2 4gb vengeance RAM for $40, or 2 8gb vengeance 2400mHz ram for $90, and he's firm on both prices.

in my computer right now i already have had 2 4gb vengeance for the past two years, and am looking to upgrade. should i scoop the two 4gb's and just chill or should i go for more and processing power with the $90 package? is it worth it??

also how the shit do i transfer files to my second harddrive? the guy said i needed some kind of software?

also how do you wipe a haddrive. he has hella shit on it and didn't wipe it when he sold it to me

update just formatted the drive and wiped it.
>>
You can get 8gb of 2400 ram new for $90.

https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231886

for example.

Don't buy used unless the price is dirt cheap.
>>
>>61686153
Oops, posted leaf prices accidentally. Ours are higher so it's even worse a deal than I thought. Don't get jewed.

>implying any other browser is any better
General rule; if you're near a computer, it's safe to assume you're being spied on in some form. You think moving from one browser to another will protect you? Yeah, nah.
At this point, pen and paper is your safest option, and the government is even working on a way to scan folded, enveloped paper from miles away, so...

Maybe just don't do anything in a computer that you would be embarrassed or afraid to do in public.

Is AMD about to recover?
36 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>61685042
If they're finally hitting the steam charts, it means more gaymers are buying it. I can guarantee a lot more general PC users bought it than that.
>>
>>61685042
wont see any significant gains for amd for steam for at least another 2-3 years since most of the cpus/gpus on steam are mobile. AMD APUS wont come out till Q1 2018 and then itll take some time till enough people buy them for it to affect the steam charts

It's not so much that AMD is about to recover, but that Intel and NVidia are about to fall.

All printers are botnets because they print miniscule dots on the page that indicate the printer's serial number. Used to determine where counterfeit money comes from.

That's only for laser printers. Inkjets don't have this problem.

Some old monochrome HP LasterJet I got for free from brother's old workplace.
Hooked it up to my Raspberry Pi to share over my network.
It does what I need and Amazon is flooded with cheap toner replacements for it so I'm pretty content.

Given how hard the two biggest tech companies are shilling the tablet + pen combo, how long before that becomes the default personal computer set up?

Not long but we need raven ridge APUs to make them non-trash. A 15W TDP limit can only provide so much performance on shitty intel chips.

I'm on Fedora and I'm seriously about to install gentoo if GNOME crashes on my ass one more time. But before that I have some issues to clear up:
1) is KDE able to be installed cleanly onto gentoo without also having to enable systemdicks?
2) does KDE crash less than GNOME (once per 20 minutes on my watch)? Otherwise that would defeat the purpose of switching DE
3) do I have to install gentoo when all I want is a reasonably up-to-date operating system on which I can run modern software with as little interference as possible?
