Welcome to /retro/, post your old hardware, software, and anything else you consider to be old.

Picked this bad boy up at a junk shop today for 10 bucks. IBM PC/2 Model 30
Its fucking immaculate inside and it cleaned up really well on the outside. Havent had a chance to tear down thr PSU yet so I wont be turning it on, I also dont have a monitor or anything else for it. I can get one at a later date from the same place though.
No battery explosions either, no corrosion or anything. Therr was hardly even any dust inside.

I also got an Apple keyboard from I think a 2 C. And an old Dell Dimension, which will be gutted for a cool sleeper build. Nothing of value is lost, no ram, no HDD, corroded PSU, pentium 3 machine

and it was THIS kind of junk shop
there was literally too much stuff for me to dig through, i found zip drives, boxes upon boxes of floppies, brand new IBM DOS disks, external SCSI drives, a complete Apple 2, a bunch of Brother monochrome orange monitors, loads of old towers, a bunch of older computers that looked like 486 era stuff from Xerox? Lots of HP desktops, and oh my god the amount of Hi-Fi equipent, i found a panasonic combo 8 track, tape, record and receiver unit there. He had a milk crate of Pentium and celeron brick processors, another just full of floppy drives, and a third of ram sticks.

I still can't believe that WCD shut down... It was like the library of Alexandria for music.
>>
>>61733681
I can't really begin to explain how much of a loss this is.
This was the biggest digital repository of music the world has ever seen. Spotify, iTunes, even Oink in its prime were kittens to what what.cd built.
I made this analogy in another thread, but it was the digital library of Alexandria for music.
It inspired me to learn about audio engineering, learn how to program, and most importantly, introduced me to music that changed me in ways I can't even begin to put into one tiny little box.
I was a part of the community for almost ten years. And it's a part of my life I'm going to have to look back on fondly.
And I don't regret a second of it.
EDIT: I know I'm the top comment in the memorial thread right now, so I'll ask. If anyone has any idea where the merch is, or can potentially get me more what merch, let me know. I just want a memento or two that's not a digital file.
EDIT: Also, greatest greatest comment of my life, written on my alt. I'd give the gold to the what staff if I could. I'll never be the same person because of the community they built and protected.

Welcome to /flt/ - Friendly Linux Thread.
Users of all levels are welcome to ask questions about Linux and share their experiences.

*** Please be civil, notice the "Friendly" in every Friendly Linux Thread. Please use other boards to discuss ideology, /g/ is Technology ***

Before asking for help, please check our list of resources[*].

If you would like to try out Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine using VirtualBox or other software made for this purpose for safety reasons.
1) Use the Live ISO to boot directly into the Linux distribution without installing anything, that way, you can get to experience the Linux operating system without installing it.
2) Dual boot the Linux distribution of your choice along with Windows or macOS, this is recommended if you want to know more about the Linux operating system.
3) Go balls deep and replace everything with Linux.
