What does it mean to be a man in 2016? How do you define masculinity?

What's your favorite lift?
>>
favorite lift....hmmm

i dunno they all suck dick now that im so strong, i hate doing every lift, the stronger I get the more I hate it because the harder they get.

i use to say OHP is my fav, but i only said that because it was cool to say that, now that I press near 100kg for reps its actually the worst fucking thing ever and i question why i lift each and every time i do it.

I try not to. I prefer to just be a human.
Be principled, be humble, laugh at yourself and accept that much of what you yearn to know is likely unknowable.

I define real masculinity almost as a form of stoicism. I man has to be able to take not just a physical punch, but an emotional one as well. That is just me, I grew up with a lot of violence and so I have a different view on things.

It feels men are growing soft in 2016. Not sure if that is due to culture, media, etc. I am okay with this, I only judge myself, no one else.

>>
men in modern times, like women, have become flaky and uninterested in commitment
to stand out from the crowd of feminine men you have to stay true to your values
being masculine is being committed to your values. aesthetics and strength help some

i like isolated dumbbell curls because it's the clear cut symbol of a man working out
>>
>>35964345
Just the pic I needed to see. Thanks brah. I was having second thoughts on the fitness lifestyle.
>>
>>35964258
OHP

Masculinity is not being concerned about masculinity. Confidence in yourself, and maybe an abhorrence of material culture. A Stoic sense of morality cant hurt either.
>>
>>35964339
I didn't come up with any of that on my own. I basically just quoted Eckhart Tolle. Keep striving for the image of manhood anonymous weirdos on the intent present to you though.
>>
I think a lot of it has to do with freedom.
>>
>>35964380

I got you :). Don't stop, Never stop.
>>
>>35964413
How do you have freedom and be in a relationship at the same time? If anything, relationships strip your freedom.

>>
>>35964429

This would depend on the person you are with. I felt the same way before I met the girl i'm with right now.

She understands that it is not healthy to be together all the time and that alone time is important to both parties in the relationship.

It definitively strips some freedom, but it lets you be free on some intrinsic level which I could express if English was my first language

It's funny because the only people who think that are the people who don't stand up to anything if they're not doing it on the internet.

Like every complaint the typical 4chan white kid has is stupid. None of it stands up to logic, you guys are just striving to be the victims and to me that's as far from manly as you can get.
>>
>>35964429
>How do you have freedom and be in a relationship at the same time?

I don't want to sound like an mgtow tard, but I think finding a girl that understands how important freedom is in important, if she can't it's probably gonna be a denigrating and disappointing relationship

might be best just to enjoy the quick fuck and then kick her out

but it's not just relationships, it's more intrinsic and all encompassing freedom, like freeing yourself from debts and social standards and the expectations of your peers and doing what you really want to do, even if that is ironically enough conforming to that shit, kek

doesn't mean you have to be a transient with no friends or family, but you should be secure enough as a man that you could say "yeah fuck this job/career/gf/situation" and get the fuck out and still sustain yourself mentally and physically or something

kind of rambling because I'm drunk t b q h

Being a man to me, is being dependable. What I think separates men from boys is their character. Sticking to your word, doing things you don't want to do but are for your own good. Not being completely fucking worthless (learn some basic plumbing, wood, mechinal skills). Believing in basic moral values and sticking to them. It feels good knowing people respect you because you stand by what you say, you know how to take care of what needs to be taken care of and I love to squat

In 2016 it means being skinny weakling and looking like a twink Pic related, it's what is considered good looking (in /fit/ too). I could snap his spine like a twig.

my favorite lift is probs deadlift or incline db bench press.
>>
>>35964258
Masculinity has nothing to do with your body. Just your actions and principles, and frankly the vast majority of men aren't up to standard.
>>
>>35964258
>Respecting yourself and others
>Knowing your responsibilities and acting accordingly
>Knowing who you are and what you want

Stuff like that. People who think it has anything to do with strength or how they look or behave or what they wear or whatever are usually extremely insecure and not particularly manly.

Look at this guy for example. A real man wouldn't even bother worrying about some model for a fashion brand. A real man would know that is nothing to do with him. A real man knows who he is and what he needs to be. He doesn't need some stupid rationalization like "Hurr I could snap his spine!" to permit him to be whoever he wants to be.

Neurotically comparing yourself with other people and their ideals is what a woman does.

Being a man is being strong enough emotionally and physically, that you are the person your friends and family turn to for help and support, and providing that help on your own terms without being used.
You are the father, the older brother, and even the son to people who do not have those connections to you, because so few people are traditionally masculine now.

And dumbbell pullovers.
>>
>>35964258
It's not a complicated answer.
1. Be able to support yourself and any family you might have.
2. Don't be an arrogant prick.

Everything that defines what it means to be a "real man" fall into those categories.
>>
>>35964258
Really to be a man you just have be born with XY chromlsomes.
Thats honestly what I think, besides that just be whatever kind of person you want to be with in reason.

Your job as a man is to build, in the most general sense of the word. Help the world build knowledge, consensus, tools, or homes - anything really. This requires discipline and strength of body and character. This includes imparting your skill(s) to others, in particular your children. We built the world as it is today. And women built us, not just by giving birth but by selecting our fathers for what they were - builders.

Masculinity is Unopologetic ownership. You own who you are, your actions and decisions and do not make excuses for anything. You don't apologize for the way you are and always work on yourself to become the better version. That is masculinity.

To me..being a man is being able to stand on your own two feet in general, to live your life as you see fit as long as it doesn't inhibit others from doing so, and to not be a burden to society/carry your weight.

I expect a lot more from me personally to fit the definition of being a man, such as being physically able and healthy, honor in your word/work, and finding skills and hobbies to master, but I don't see them as definite criteria to be considered a man.

I think being able to look in the mirror every morning is a start to being a man. Being able to live with your decisions.

I like OHP the best, but I'm a DYEL.

>>35969855
You are not wrong, but taking care of something that is yours eg. your body shows that you feel responsible for that thing.

Cancer on the internet has no real meaning. Not really, since there are no real restrictions about what is relevant to this board only some vague rules that it must be fitness related.

I agree, that the word is catchy and clever because mods can't do anything about it but this website, just like the world, is not perfect.

Arguing over a vegetarian or a meat eating diet is also a question of health and maybe fitness, even though it is cancer.

To me, /fit/ has always been and continues to be, a source of entertainment, and source of mostly questionable, but sometimes useful information. I'll most likely never leave this place, only if I ever get so busy with my life that I can no longer sit in front of the computer screen for more than five minutes.

What this website is, is anonymity and some constraints that would otherwise be applied are non-existent here. That's what I like, and that's why I like all the people who go on here.

I think the post turned out faggy enough, time to leave. God bless, anons.

>Being able to live with your decisions.
But what if you fucked up? Do you admit you fucked up or do you convince yourself that you did the right thing? Are both options manly?

>>35971386
Convincing yourself that you did the right thing is just obviously not facing the fact that you fucked up.

Face it. If you realize that you made a mistake, you might treat it as such and so you can learn from it.

It's easier said than done, but not impossible.

Lying to yourself never makes you improve.

Failure is part of progress. Failure is part of life. Learn to live with it and you will learn to live your life.

That's what I believe anyway.
