>>35746676 You seem to have plenty of time for 4chan. Generally speaking, you have enough time to do the things you're willing to make time for. Complaining about muh engineering courseload is just making excuses. >at least in my experience
I drink alot but other than that it just helped me find other dudes that are into the same shit. I always have someone to hit the gym with. I'd say it even helps keep me motivated. Joining a fraternity was the best decision I've made at school so far. I've gotten laid three days in a row now.
>implying you "buy friends" you do not understand dues. fucking plebs.
>>35748073 Important? Important to what? Why do you decide what's objectively important? Important is a man made concept so each man decides what's important. Do you lock yourself up and study and go to class with no friends?
We have different values. I value leisure time and having fun and friendship. You enjoy your values of grades hard work. If that's what truly makes you happy, but I don't believe it does.
>>35748129 >paying for friends >not making a group of friends with people and then getting your own 4 or 5 person house and throw ragers every week >not having a few frat friends so you can go to the parties without having to pay to live in the same room as 50 other faggots >paying for friends
>>35748552 They dont let nongreeks in the houses. Only girls to drug. the partys my bros who bought their own crib invited EVERYONE and were much better. was cool and no fags trying to act hard and brag about who has nicer sperrys.
>all this hating on frat boys Looking back on my undergrad experience, I really wish I've pledged. I would have gone to more parties, I would have done more drugs, and I would have picked up more sluts. These are all fleeting, and ultimately unimportant experiences, but these are things I wish I have gotten out of my system as a dumb kid. As a young adult well into the start of my career path, I cannot waste too much time on parties and girls.
Frat boys do make connections in their undergrad, whether they are quality or not, they do count. It's these connections that helps the kids get a start on their chosen career path. It's the difference between flipping burgers and working at the office.
When I was 18 I was all about "being myself" and bullshit like that. I had that dumb, contrived sense of "independence" that every fresh college kid has.
>>35748676 They literally will never qualify as a true fraternity. Never net a single respectful individual connected to any of those associations. Now maybe I'm biased but those were all bottom teir houses on my old campus. Nothing but the rejects.
I wonder how my life would have panned out if I had just gone to university instead of enlisting in the army. I'm a little envious thinking of all the fun I am potentially missing out on. Ah well, when I get out I'll just enjoy going to school and not having to worry about loans as well as having a larger and more easily accessible pool of chicks to pick up.
>>35748669 You know what else is a good way to get a good office job? Doing good in school and picking a relevant major. Going to a good law school beats joining a frat for both career and networking, but if you want to be some dumb fuck business major join a frat, it will help you with the important skills of your major; bitching about work when you don't really do anything and getting drunk with a bunch of obnoxious faggots
>>35748726 Real advice? Learn to talk to women and relate to them in a respectful but dominant manner. They'll flock to you. Women love the alpha male. That much is just generic. Add in social constructs such as respectful communication and stay straight forward. Don't leave room to beat around the bush and she will give you her bush just for the opportunity for a guy like that.
>>35748776 They all were where I was. 2 of the 3 named have their letters formally revoked and 1 hadn't received a legitimate charter. I was at a large university, many groups abused the name to act like idiots and blame a larger group of individuals. They are despicable desperate children looking for a way to play the system.
>>35748744 You're absolutely right on all counts, but you are overrating the importance of grades. Yes, grades are important, but they don't get you hired. What truly matters is your work experience, the time you spent working at internships and training programs. Employers look at that stuff first, your grades second.
And yeah, most frat boys are obnoxious faggots. It's true. But let me ask you this--isn't the average male, 18 through 22, just the same? (Don't get me started on sorority girls.)
>>35748825 Grades matter for getting into a good grad school program. Getting into a good grad school program matters for getting a good job. If you get into a top tier grad school the school will literally give you everything else you need to succeed. Again, if you want to fuck around with something useless like business do whatever you want and don't care about grades, if you want to do a more rigorous post grad area of study you better damn well do good at school or else you'll end up at some absolute trash school like Cooley and you'll have to resort to sucking dick at a dive bar for money
Actually, don't fight me right now, because I am looking for a partner to have intercourse with my overweight girlfriend. I will watch them have sex while I am wearing restraints. I don't consider myself a cuckold, but rather an enlightened, modern individual.
I had blueberries and quinoa for breakfast, which is something I enjoy while drinking coffee and watching Bernie Sanders speeches. I really like TED Talks.
Listen, I have a serious question, please answer honestly.
Are you guys hating on greek life just kidding, or do you think that greek life is really what you are saying?
Joining a fraternity got me out of a depression where i was very close to killing myself, and was drinking myself to death alone every night while everyone else had fun. I joined the fraternity where i fit in; its not like i just randomly joined one, i went to rush and saw which ones had guys i liked. i rushed, and got a bid to one which, albeit is low tier, still throws great parties and is above average size. Yeah, hazing was annoying, but it was just calisthenics and the occasional gross liquor. But the point of it wasnt to hurt us, it was to bond the pledge class. It forces us to be together for long periods of time hanging out; you end up friends with people like that, who already pledged the fraternity due to common interests.
I'm not paying for friends, im paying for alcohol ,food, and housing i already would have had to buy anyway, just now its with a ton of perks.
Noone in my fraternity is creepy or weird to girls. we had an issue with harrasment at a party one time. that time was when we decided to let a bunch of gdi guys in, big mistake, we had to kick one out for harassing a girl.
And anyway, if you say that joining a frat is paying for friends, then isnt paying to go to class paying for friends you meet their? paying to go to school may as well be paying for every friend you meet at university
I wish I could join a frat but it's just not viable for me
>live 45 minutes away from campus with parents >have an internship 15 minutes the other way away from campus that pays well >would have to give up internship and life in a nice rural area to go live on campus >wouldn't be able to keep up my biking as well in the city >wouldn't have my nice home gym
I also can't afford it at all.
On top of that >tfw the girl you want is in a sorority on daddy's money and she's probably out every weekend fucking frat bros while you work endlessly to make another dollar
>>35746676 > I had always been part of an orchestra club that practiced 6-7 hours a week when I was in undergrad, and I had plenty of time to maintain grades high enough to go into grad school and to lift. A professor in the faculty also said that he used to party all the time in frats and clubs when he was an undergrad.
Get into grad school then we'll see whether you really have no time for gym/clubs or you're just really bad at time management.
Worst mistake of my life. I'm glad I left. I was unhappy. I partied and drank a lot and banged bitches left and right. But I was still miserable. I tried to kill myself, ate 42 pills. It didn't work. I'm home now. Back in school. It's been two years now but I've done a good job of repressing my memories of it. I'm sure there are good ones out there. But if you're miserable and hate yourself there will come a day where the party's over but you're still awake and you walk around the house as everyone is passed out. That's when you remember just how much you hate yourself. That's when you remember that the fraternity and life that comes with it is just your way of distracting yourself. You surround yourself with your brothers and you have so much fun but it's those moments that you realize you're alone and realize why you're there that are scariest. If you're unhappy, if you hate living, if you're looking for escape, if you're scared, don't join one. The collapse hurts more than you can imagine and it took me two years to reach it. Two years of lying to myself. And here I am two years after trying to scrape whatever is left of me together. Lifting is my distraction now.
My frat is awesome we all drink lots of beer and part with sluts all the time! So what if I have to pay to have friends? Roofies aren't cheap you know. Besides when people pledge for us we make them do the elephant walk and then jerk us off while we call them faggots! Hahahahha, it's cool tho we all had to jerk off the older members to get in so it's something we all bond over.
>>35750253 this is what everyone who isn't in a frat thinks a frat is
meanwhile we had the highest GPA of any student org on campus (except honor societies obviously) and 3/4 of our fraternity held leadership positions in at least 1 other student org
Our dues were minimal anyways. $170/year went to nationals and $30/year went to the chapter. House was paid entirely by rent for people staying in it, and parties were BYOB + pooled cash.
In reality I spent about $1000 over 4 years for access to 2-3 parties per week, booze at each party, a database of old tests/homework/labs, the third largest fraternity network after college in America, and legitimate experience recruiting people and managing finances during my time
in retrospect it's probably one of the greatest investments I've made, even if you just consider the professional networking opportunities
>>35750318 oh yeah and zero hazing, LCA started the national anti-hazing hotline and we take that shit very seriously. Associate members (our version of pledges) get voting rights as soon as they sign their bid, and a core tenant of the fraternity is "Every man a man" i.e. treat every man with the respect he is due
>tfw go to smallish school that used to be a commuter school so the only "frats" dont actually have houses and they are a laughingstock Oh well. There are still enough parties (not that I enjoy them that much anyway) to go around.
>>35748772 If you value your sanity, do not download yik yak.
It's just people ripping on greek life at least at my uni.
Using the typical "paying for friends" "argument" and other annoying shit.
>dont feed the trolls I have to this time. >thinking your dues are paying for friends Yeah just forget the house, the food, the discounted rooms, the connections, and the social life. If you don't count any of those things you're paying for nothing.
>>35751144 >implying you can't get all of those things without joining a frat for less money
I bet you're that faggot that wears Martha's Vineyard shit to the bar and screams "GEED" and anyone not wearing some Greek letters they don't even know how to pronounce. Good luck with your business degree, faggot
>>35751225 I live in the city so it's damn well cheaper. My friend who can barely afford college joined a frat because the dorms and apartments are so fucking expensive.
sweet accusations man >vineyard vines Don't own any nor does anyone I know it's taboo where I'm from >GEED Nope the university is only 20% greek we're not some faggy state school. >not knowing greek letters I don't even know where you would get this idea. Almost every pledge education program I know of makes you memorize the letters correctly. >business degree Sorry I'm in an engineering fraternity.
You can keep throwing baseless accusations at me, but I probably will be asleep already because I'm tired from hanging out with FRIENDS all day. Not sure if you would know anything about having a social life.
>Joining a frat >Making it Dont bother picking one cause youre too fucking retarded to be alive. How insecure do you have to be to join a group thats founded on every form of faggotry under one roof. Telling you what to do, who to talk to let alone wasting money on parties and meme merch.
>>35751500 I was close with members of one particular frat in college and spent a lot of time there. Honestly, most of the guys were pretty cool and their parties were insane. I regret not joining. It seems gay from the outside but it's not what you're making it out to be.
>>35748073 Dude, what the fuck are you even talking about. Most frats have a GPA requirement, lots of my bros have girlfriends, some of us lift together, some of us, including me, have jobs. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.
>>35750318 I know right? Our dues our minimal too (only 1700 dollars a week, but it's cool my dad owns a dealership bro he's totally loaded) and we also had the highest gpa on campus we have all the answers to all the tests and databases of homework and quiz answers because Biff"s dad is a lawyer and told the teachers he will sue them if they don't give us what we want lol. It's not cheating though we are like so totally smart we don't even need to go to class bro! We have a party 4 nights a week and they are Ragers( last week my boy scooter bonged a beer out of Dino"s asshole hahahaha! Partyyyyyy!) and I get laid at literally every party (who cares if the chicks are passed out while I fuck them amirite?) we also don't do any hazing we make the pledges suck our dicks and then we let them pour beer into our butts so it's not hazing dude.overall best investment of my life it made it so I was able to graduate with a high gpa while not doing any real work or learning shit but because my dad owns a dealership I will still get a job when I graduate!
>>35753799 Very different in the states. Fraternities are for highly qualified and likable individuals. And any respectable sorority will have individualized macro based meal plans as well as active invited for fitness. All women want to look good. They gather the resources and do it.
Or you could not be a bitch and join your schools RFC
Reasons why Rugby > Frats
>Rugby is a kickass sport and all other sport teams give you props for playing it/think you're an ultimate badass for playing it >There's always a keg on tap at parties, all ruggers love beer >Your entire team is /fit and loves to lift and run > slightly no homo, perfect for you fags on here >At my school it's $200 for the entire year, two semesters >Girls love rugby guys and most importantly rugby shorts, gloots for the sloots >Rugby guys don't rape girls, don't need drugs to get pussy
Tldr; Rugby is better than any frat, prove me wrong
>>35755166 >Mfw I would have to turn my school's rugby team down from access to parties because they were nothing more than a bunch of rapists and buffoons who wanted to cause trouble inside of someone else's house. >mfw I would point them in the correction of the bars which 80% of them couldn't get into since they were all under age. >mfw they actually lost their varsity status 3 years ago because of a proven rape culture.
Nothing against the sport but when I was there they were nothing but degenerates and anti socialites.
>>35755166 Rugby is equally as gay as frats tho. So much homo shit between rugby players. Most team sports are bad for it though, I know the hockey dressing room was gay as fuck. Thankfully as the goaltender I was mostly safe from all the gay shit, but man, sports dressing rooms, fucking gay as fuck.
ITT ass blasted frat boys who are replying over and over to a bunch of people trolling them. If you all weren't so insecure you would stop responding. I see the benefits of a good frat for networking and the like but from what I have seen a lot of fraternity members are cheaters that coast by through school on stolen exam and homework answers. It's a shame some of these mongrels who spent their education partying "DUDE BEER LMAO!" And not learning shit will get the job over the kid who busted his ass to get good grades just because one of their frat brothers dads is the vp of a company or something.
