/plg/, powerlifting general.
For the discussion of powerlifting and not for norsefat whining like a little bitch overgrown crybabby waaaaaa waaaaaaaa waaaaaaa give me a bottle waaaaaaaa waaaaaaaa
lets all get norsebitch his tampon now, he's on his permanent period
What ever happened to Mong? I kinda miss his shitposting
>what does it matter what hes doing if it doesnt affect you?
Elitism. Same reason why there are so many IPF fanbois around these parts.
Bunch of internet non-competitors thinking they're hot shit.
i mean i don't really care, but what exactly is the point of using a slingshot then? there's no way it can help you more than just benching normally at that level. it would be like busting out chains and bands when you deadlift 225
>mfw I saved your pepe and there isnt a damn thing you can do about it
The slingshot can be a pretty valuable tool for bludgeoning in correct form to people that tend to overflare or not get tight (read: beginners).
Not sure I'd use it a ton but it has benefits.
Wait I found shoving a dildo up my ass and then squatting fixed my rounded lumbar back
are you saying once I remove the dildo out of my ass my form will go back to being shit, and that I've been dildo fucking my ass for no reason other than pleasure?
i hate late night plg...
Why was last thread deleted. Two people said this was hitting depth, just want to make sure. Last night someone told me I should collect rocks because I couldn't hit depth. :(
looks like depth to me
fucked around on Black Ops 3, played some Rocket League, now adding more qts to the folder
>tfw first shit session since the first day of this cycle
>the folder. Glad I'm not the only one
Eh. I find it depends.
If your local meets are consistent about who is judging and how they call things, it pays to account for it (pain that it is). If not, you sometimes just have to roll the dice.
True, but they usually do it after a bunch of other shit.
thats a lotta back stuff lad
what a relief
obv, she is an instagram ho
so I did bench today and worked up to competition style singles. 275 flew up but 295 was a grind. What gives?
I've done 315 for touch and go for a single but I didn't anticipate a 1 sec pause at the bottom to be so different
If you're weak a few inches off the chest (which isn't uncommon), the difference between an easy rep and a grinder is how fast you come off the chest. Doesn't take much of a difference to screw things up.
If you're weak right on the chest (rarer) you're either going to be through the sticking point without it mattering or the whole lift will go to shit.
nn plg, see you tomorrow
I'm not leaving tBh, just going to do something else until I find another comp to do and then I'll hop back on to time it right
>Gonna have to wait for after graduation
just run his generalized intermediate program, you could just swap his assistance for what you know works and you get to go heavier than 80% for endless triples.
It's a hobby, if you're not having fun, what's the point?
>mfw Sheiko >80kg with true maxes starts Monday
OUTTA MY WAY "TRAINING SHOULD BE FUN" FUCKING SHITS
I GOT A DATE WITH TEN SETS OF TRIPLES
ONLY GOING TO 75% TODAY, FEEL THE FATIGUE
Stop being such a fucking pussy, Jesus.
>boardshorts got a slingshot
>boardshorts started using a SSB
>boardshorts is thinking about hoping back on
Let the gains flow through you.
Don't let a bad meet get ya down. Let it motivate you to do better next time friend.
I did eh, but am going to remember that over the next few months of training.
We have room for you, too. You just need to take it.
The dark shall never triumph over the light, your ambitions are short sighted and fleeting.
It was also thanks to my SABO(TM) brand deadlifting shoes, which provided me with all of the grip, stability, and comfort I could need!
>getting a triple priced version of pic related
Some guy at the gym was benching without safeties and almost smashed his face. I had to run in and save him. Will the PR gods reward my good deed on Friday? Need to get that 2x3x315 bench set finally
The fuck kind of deadlift are they doing at the ASC this year? They said they're not doing tires again, but later said they're not doing a standard style pull either. I wanted to see those guys hit some no shit heavy singles instead of weird variations for once. Damn it, Rogue.
>deficit up to 80%
>easy as fuck
>block pulls after bench and dips at 90%
>back rounds when rack pulling
>put it on the ground
>can pull 90% with straight back
someone explain this fucking madness
>i am now dreaming
>i dream boardshorts is unable to squat twice his bodyweight
>i am then awoken
>i am no longer dreaming
>boardshorts is unable to squat twice his bodyweight
whoa pretty freaked out right now
I do pull conventional. My quads are my weak point in squat and DL. Makes sense now that I see my own question.
Ill post vid next time I do block pulls in a weeks time. I do try and mimick the same form. Chest up, hams and lats tight, bar hugging thighs.
What is dead may never die.
Though by the time the sixth book comes out, my memories of the first five will have died.
>not grabbing a bar on the floor at the bottom of the squat and clean and jerking it without dropping the bar off his back
Misha needs to git gud.
Don't listen to those nerds, they're trying to get you red-lighted out of spite. You should just use the one true measure of depth - did your sack leave a sweaty print on the floor? If so, you're good to go.
>and on that day anon learned why westside liked box squats so much
Then take enough gear to grow a sack and squat until that hits the ground. You're not special, meet the same standards as everyone else.
I've posted probably a dozen times on PLG for various form checks and always people assume I'm a dude. I'm okay with it but I have to wear tight pants now to check for depth because of my hip width and fat.
What's up strongbros and strongurls,
I met a young gent a bit back that really impressed and garnered my respect. I dare say he genuinely increased my lifting aspiration. From checking out his gym page and just being around the strong sob, I think I am going to start looking toward powerlifting vistas.
1. How do I properly engage leg drive on the bench?
2. Are there any good resources on the web for someone that just learned to pull the slack from the bar very recently.
Peace, love, massive gains to all,
I can't decide if I should give you a crappy 1 line answer that will barely help or waste my time finding you some books I think you should read.
I'm conflicted on whether or not your deserve my attention
Sparrow squats lik 110kg for a few reps I think. Probs 115kg max. Her deadlift WAS her strong suit (140kg 5x5) but she fucked her shit up
She benches like 70kg
These numbers are a tad out of date. Search her Instagram "pissenin" for recent videos.
She's the most competitive of the two, communegrill doesn't even know how to squat, I don't even think she's owns a bench lol
She might deadlift around 2pl8? Her hip shape fucks her up though, I think?
She complains a lot and I hardly make sense of it.
I would really appreciate the list of books, strongbro.
I would apply to that guy's gym, I think they would accept me and I would fit in, but I am in a tight situation all around and can't afford it.
I would appreciate your time in helping me to become a knowledgeable beginner that has high aspirations to become strong, has to do it solo in a really shitty rusty gym, and can't afford to get hurt as I lack medical insurance as a full time student/part time worker.
No. I have coached some high school boys in lifting and see that they can get stronger than me after a few months of lifting regularly. Now if I can keep progressing, I think I can be stronger than lots of men in squat and deadlift but not bench.
Bench is my favourite lift and it should be yours to.
Download the second book called "bench specialisation manual."
It's short, only 16 pages long, 5 of which is worth your time reading.
The only thing it doesn't mention that helped me a lot is thinking about pushing your back against the bench as you press the bar up. Seriously try and push the bench into the ground.
>Bench is my favourite lift and it should be yours too
posted this in other thread got deleted before i saw if i got an answer
i tried everything and my hips still shoot up first when i deadlift. i can max around 200 kg but my hips shoot up when i dl 130 kg for warmups and stuff, it makes my back look rounded on each set.. I've never had any lower back pain tho even tho i deadlift twice a week. I've been checking pete rubish deadlift videos and my back is in a similar position when it comes to rounding as his. Is it a matter of mobilty, are my hamstrings or hip flexors too tight? Should i switch to sumo or will i be fine if i continue doing conventional dl like this?
>if you feel your legs shaking during the benchpress you made it
I will keep that in mind. What can I do about my Chucks sliding on the floor? Just keep practicing until I "get" it?
I remember posting a picture of this girl on /fit/ a couple of years ago pulling 315 and everyone said it was fake. Hilarious that there are "men" weaker than a 113lb woman
>using RPE at all ever
because only reason i didnt get injured was that i was lucky as fuck, i did the "plg hepburn"
last month or so every rep from the first set to the last was slow and grindy
im actually starting to like benchbeta, first a good meet with smart attempt selection, sumo form improved tremendously. also posts goat webms
shit hasnt mendleson torn both pecs a hundred times how do plers still do stuff after tearing biceps, pecs, quads blows my mind i still feel some pussy muscle strain from 2 years ago
I'm trying to decide if I should do my meet in April or just go and help coach my team and get more training in for the state meet in July.
Depends on your goal for the mert, if you just want to try out the competition or if you want to try for a new 1rm
I'm doing my first meet soon and i think I will go for a 5rm/3rm/1rm just to make sure i get white lights all the way through.
For me it will mostly be an experience in listening to judgecalls and get together with new people.
This is not bad thinking. For first meets those calls can kill you.
Back in July at my first usapl meet I only benched 325 and it was bench only.
Then this weekend for my second one I hit 358 easily in a 3 lift meet.
Imagine having a son like isley, raising it from birth and all that, feeding it, clothing it, teaching it... and it grows up to be a fucking autistic nonce that watches anime cartoons.
Think I'd rightly drown it and then myself 2bh.
how do people get away with this form for extended periods without injury?
Day 96 blog (yesterday):
Skwatted 455 ayy tee gee, didn't feel right on the setup, and subsequently didn't feel right on the execution, it almost like I should have seen it coming and corrected for something, which I guess is something to work on. Not bad speed tho.
Hit some dips between sets for my pressing volume because the rack has a dip attachment. 10x BW, 8x +25, 6x +45.
Brian Shaw is one of his videos made it sound like standard plate diameter on a deadlift bar with extra long collars. So it will be close to legit but with a little extra whip.
For real. I have to film it and look at bar speed or have a buddy tell me how fast it was.
The day isn't over, there is plenty of time left to seize it, lad.
"Explosive" squat day(55%) happened! Weights were fast and easy, stance was widened, and volume accessory work happened afterwards.
Today I plug Dr. Mike Israetel, and the Renaissance Diet, and shut down people that claim healthy dieting is too expensive.
Music from Cool Spot(GEN).
Dogbro down 5 lbs, gf down 13. We're all gonna make it.
Hey lads it's Sean here
I just wanna say I apologise for all I have ever done to you. You are all good people and I need to make some changes in my life.
I am going to leave plg forever and anyone who trolls you guys is no longer me. I won't be around in life much longer but I will say the memories I have here will stay with me till after life.
Thank you lads
You could probably get a few more reps bw but honestly might as well start adding weight. A pretty easy progression is just the greyskull style of 5, 5, 5+ and add 2.5 lbs next time
Hey bro, I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy these videos. Continue to do ur best friendo.
BBQ pizza is best.
Pizza "purist" autists are the worst.
They are the kind to pay $100 for one of those shit neapolitan pizzas then go around for the next 5 years talking about how anything else is garbage and they are "real" pizza lovers.
>phil death cycle
Is your brother natty?
That would explain why.
10x2 @ 75%, then a 5x10 @ 60% on squats.
+3 for the paused-off-the-floor deadlifts. Candito mentioned in one of his videos that it reinforces the starting-position form. For now, I suggest deloading and using them as the primary movement for a while. I don't know what intensity you should try, but I use a 5x5 @ 75% as an accessory.
>subjectively judging intensity
Max bench a month ago was 205 for a paused rep and I hit 185 for 10 easy reps yesterday. Won't be maxing out for a few months, I wonder what I'm close to bench wise. Also, what does everyone here think of paused squats? Thanks. - Bill F. from Pittsburgh
I feel like my form is all over the place...
Am i hitting depth (i dont think so)?
I squat high bar, but it looks more like a low bar squat to me. Is now a good time to switch?
General advice would be appreciated...
Hard to tell. I'm of the belief that you should go slightly lower than just parallel with a highbar squat. Its not a competition lift so you may as well go an inch below parallel to prevent accidentally squatting high instead of trying to minimize rom. I like Canditos video on hybrid highbar squats. I occasionally go atg as well
What do other people think of this?
I started with it and just kind of stuck with it...
I know i should make the switch soon, but i am progressing good right now and dont want to fuck that up by switching to low bar.. But maybe i should...
yeah those hybrid squats are what i am going for. But it seems to me, there is way more hip involvement, than there should be with my squats...
/plg/ I have a question and it's only for experienced lifters. Do you have any legit criticism on SS?
I've heard multiple times that Ripp teaches the power clean wrong (jump and shrug) and in my noob experience I've found deadlifting with a less horizontal back is a lot easier and less straining. Thoughts? Do I have to deadlift with a nearly horizontal back?
>Getting unmotivated on Sheiko t b h f a m
I TOLD YOU YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN SOME TIME OFF, YOU FUCKING UNNATTY CHAD DEGENERATE MISCENEGATING PIECE OF SHIT REEEE
I have two years of experience, so take it for what it is
literally who cares
Rippe teaches his DL (and every other lift) in the "one size fits all" kind of way, which just isnt strictly true. Sheiko specifically calls him out on shitty DL coaching in his book
>Do I have to deadlift with a nearly horizontal back
no, it depends on proportions
>being an iCuck(tm)
Literally never. I'll go back to a dumb phone before I use an
I can't go back to the gym ever again ffs
>go to take a leek
>a guy at the urinal
>1 free urinal besides guy pissin'
>1 free stall
>I'll look like a retard if the chose the stall
>take the urinal
>try to take a leek
>realise if I try too hard I'll fart
>can't leave urinal
>can't piss or I'll let it rip
>whole bathroom is silent
>stand there for an entire minute doing nothing
it wasn't just choreographed. It's also tool assisted
paused squats are particularly good for beginners who are uncomfortable finding depth and lack tightness in the hole. I feel like after those skills have been taught they become much less useful though.
the issue it causes is that you'll be less competitive at powerlifting because you have a glaring weakness in your back squat to allow for that to happen. Even weightlifters backsquat more than they frontsquat.
10 minutes?? why?
goodluck though lad.
>the issue it causes is that you'll be less competitive at powerlifting because you have a glaring weakness in your back squat to allow for that to happen. Even weightlifters backsquat more than they frontsquat.
This is a temporary situation. My back squat will eventually become balanced.
For the time being, could it arise any issues with muscle imbalances perhaps?
i honestly don't know. i think in general having one muscle much stronger than its antagonist is a bad idea. i guess through in some GHRs if you're going to exclusively front squat.
when i do them i tend to bring the kettlebell too far backwards. its supposed to be a hip hinge movement so really it should be just under your balls. you should probably feel it in your lower back at least some though, especially after such high reps.
