it was interesting. I think i'm going to go with the coaching for the 11 weeks or so before collegiate nationals. Form was he suggested using a narrower bench grip as a variation and bringing my sumo stance in a tad. He said raising the bar position on my back when squatting would likely lessen any bicep/shoulder pain i have and wouldn't negatively affect my squat.
My biggest question was on the benefits of coaching in general, not with TSA coaching. He said he shared my concerns that coaching really isn't necessary or helpful to many types of people. Nutrition wise he wants me to track my food consumption for a little bit and we might make adjustments.
Seemed like a really smart and nice guy desu.

I could of figured he might suggest that, he was bringing his own sumo in a little while back, said it was good IIRC and I've seen him suggest/program close grip bench for basically everyone/everything. The TSA 9wk is chock full of it.

I guess I just want to have solid set/rep/rest schemes for each block. The other thing I do wish to initially incorporate some body weight movements like push-ups pull-ups jumping, some gymnastics movements, running for endurance and sprints when I would need them appropriately. I find I really just have to get some practice in to progress in deadlifts with this type of training. I could probably do them twice per week the whole way through and be fine. When I wrote heavy speed singles I mean around 80%. All of my hypertrophy come from daily squats and posterior chain work.

What I'm hearing is that you want to do speed work.
It doesn't really fit into StrongLifts. You're lifting heavy every session, so you either have to give up a session (which would drop your volume considerably and hinder strength gains) or put the speed work at the end (when you're already fatigued and can't go very quickly anyway).

5/3/1 did really well for me. Work on timing your meals. Try to get a good whack of carbs in right before training. Learn to love caffeine pills/coffee/preworkout. Do not fuck about with your sleep schedule. Eight hours of sleep erry night really helps take the edge off the caloric deficit.

Yeah, well. You make some sense, but there are cases when people really do get too fat. And they will have to cut eventually. So the further they go, the longer and harder it is to come back to a reasonable body composition.
You have to be smart about it and don't let yourself get too fat in the first place.

What I'd rather do is cut down back to about 15% and then keep the weight constant and try to recomp.

There are lots of ways to do this. The two methods that come to mind immediately are carb backloading (only eat carbs at night after training) and a cyclical ketogenic diet (zero carbs all the time, but with one carb refeed day per week).
Recommended reading:
- "Cheat Mode" by silverhydra (google it, it's just some pages on his website)
- "Carb Cackloading" by John Kiefer (maybe in the dropbox?)
- "Rapid Fat Loss Handbook" by Lyle McDonald
- "Ketogenic Diet" by Lyle McDonald

They're all pretty short, so don't feel too daunted.
Cheat Mode is kind of a TL;DR of Carb Backloading, but the Kiefer book is much more in-depth and very helpful.
The Rapid Fat Loss Handbook is an absolute must, imo. It doesn't focus specifically on carb cycling, but it has important concepts and details.
