The evolutionary step of eating meat rather than vegetation was what provided our ancestors with the evolutionary advantage over our competitors. Meat has a higher calorific content than vegetation and provided them with the energy needed to advance brain development.
(interestingly the second evolutionary step of cooking meat rather than eating it raw (which came around 250000 years ago) fulfilled the same purpose as the first evolutionary step of eating meat in the first place: cooking meat makes it easier to eat and increases its calorific content). So if we hadn't learned to cook and eat meat, we wouldn't be here toady.
The only reason people can survive today on a purely vegetarian or vegan diet, is because of the abundance of food which is available to us( mainly due to our step from hunter gathers, to farming and agriculture around 10,000 years ago).

So if you want to talk about what's "natural", if anything eating meat( and indeed cooking it) is more "natural" than living on a purely vegetarian diet; a feat only made possible by our modern lifestyle.
Fuck vegans.

When vegans show their meals

>well, for lunch I'll have 20 bananas and if I'm still hungry I'll have 2-3 more, this is fine, our ancestors ate like this and we should

Fruit is not a fucking meal. Fruit is delicious, but it's a light snack at best here and there. I have no problems with vegans who eat normal like rice/beans/oats/potatoes, but these high fruit assholes are a whole different story
>>
>>35654625
Not to mention that all that fructose will fuck them up and age them to shit, there's a reason why vegans age like curdled milk

Because I don't have to eat meat to be healthy, hit my macros and make gains. Because I don't want to support an industry that is harming the planet, harming the health people and exploiting/mistreating billions of animals.

Can someone on here please post a study stating that going over 20 to 30 grams a meal is anything but a waste of protein? Seriously people on here eat way too much protein when it's not a mystery to science on how much we need for MSP.

>>
>>35657818
it's very easy to get a complete amino acid profile. In fact the only way to not get one would be if you only had one source of protein. Even just eating beans and rice gives you a full amino acid profile. Bioavailability is around 80 percent for beans, 95 percent for meat. It's not a big deal at all and people on fit are far too ready to act like it is. Also, soy protein isolate is 95%, which is the same as whey and meat.
>>
>>35657861
what I ate on that day
>>
>>35657818
Simply eat a side of vegetables. It is nearly impossible not to get your amino acids throughout the day on a healthy diet. Plan all your meals around an adequate protein source of 20 to 30 grams with side dishes of primary vegetables and you will be just fine.

You may also have heard that the body wastes protein if you eat more than a certain amount at a time (30g is the most-cited figure). The reality is that there is no empirical evidence for this being true.

At least that's what the sticky says.
>>

Our bodies are pretty efficient. I'm just saying that you might want to try it out. I'm doing just fine on half the protein I used to do. people who eat meat are fantastic for animals

imagine if no one ate chickens

also farmers would find their land is less valuable to them, as they can grow the same food in 1/10th the space, so they'd sell their land and they'd just be filled with shit tier housing

I'm convinced the vegan trend is a few very, very clever people pretending to be vegan to eliminate their competition. Just think, now all these new veggiefage are getting substandard amounts of food. They can't pack on muscle. The people jumping on the bandwagon are, of course, legit vegans, and they're suffering for it. But the guys leading the charge are definitely not vegan, and they look great because they're all eating like normal people.

And it's working in certain circles. I mean, /fit/ is already half malnourished.

Anyway, meat is king. Eat more of it. Just balance it out with other types of food.

Copy-pasted, not fact-checked:

>The truth about meat / dairy production is that we use trillions of gallons of water for livestock agriculture. It takes 990 liters of water to produce 1 liter of milk, and over 500 gallons of water to produce 1 hamburger. That's more water waste than fracking, Californians watering their lawns, or anything else that might get you worked up already.
>Beyond water, the CO2 levels produced by livestock are higher than all areas of transportation combined. Planes, trains and automobiles have got nothing on cows. Not to mention these animals also produce high levels nitrogen, which is literally 300 times more detrimental to our environment than C02; and methane, which warms the world 20 times faster. Livestock agriculture is the number one cause of deforestation, oceanic dead zones, drought, and the warming of our planet. There is no room for debate. That's just the way it is. Fossil fuels are a joke in comparison.
>By raising animals to eat, animals that live free are becoming extinct and losing their habitats at a rapid pace. 91% of the Amazon rainforest deforestation is attributed to soy production for livestock feed and free-range grazing. Even fishing -- taking the ridiculous number of fish out of the sea as we do each year drastically changes the oceanic habitat. It's dying. And it's alarming because dead oceans mean dead people. The Earth itself will be fine, don't worry about it, it always has been. People and other, less harmful animals will not be.

>As population rises and demand for meat increases the responsible thing to do would be to at least eat less meat and dairy. And get used to it. Soon it will not be a choice, and I know this because it's not sustainable. The only thing that will change factory farm behavior is our behavior. I won't comment on free-range, because there's not enough land to supply our demand, so it's a moot point. The only thing that can save this living planet, and all the living things on it, is changing the way we live, changing our diet, and the way we interact with our environment on a hyperconscious level. Now, enjoy your lunch!

The only reason we could have a meat-based diet in prehistoric times was that our population was like 1/100 of what it is now

it says at the top, 100 grams of.. 100 grams of anything is fuck all. I have been a vegan for 6 months but I loved meat up until the day I stopped eating it. I loved steak and bacon as much as the next guy but to say that eating meat is easier than eating plant based foods is complete bullshit. Legumes are much easier to prepare, cut, chew, eat and digest than meat is. You don't know what you are talking about.

Also 100 grams of nuts or seeds will have 650 kcal, much more than even the fattiest cut of meat so if you struggle to eat a lot and need to get the calories in nuts and seeds are the best option, bar none.

>>
>>35659042
you are actually an idiot. It says in that small image there that he went vegan for ethical reasons, not once did he mention health. His being a vegan has nothing to do whether he is taking roids or not. He says right there "..I saw all those cows and pigs and realised I couldn't be a part of it any more"

I fucking love how you morons claim that every vegan that looks good or is big is on roids, completely ignoring the fact that every non vegan who is big and looks good is on roids too. Amino acids are amino acids, once you take bioavailbilty into account as long as you are getting the same amount of protein it doesn't matter whether it came from an animal or from a plant.

You fucks are so desperate to criticise anything you can about veganism it's actually pathetic.

You can get enough protein as a vegan

suspected as much, you don't know what you are talking about. Bacteria make B12, not animals.

Oh look, another retard that claims he hunts for every single bit of meat he eats. Yes animals in the wild get their B12 from the soil, but you don't get all of your meat from the wild, you get it from the store just like everyone else. That meat has been given supplements.

I never claimed that I got all my nutrients from plants, I said I got it all from a vegan diet. A vegan diet simply means zero animal products. If I have to supplement a couple of things to ensure that I am not taking any part in the disgusting animal agriculture business and actively contributing to the destruction of the planet we need to live on then yeah, I will supplement B12.

Do you feel like the switch gave you more energy anon? That's all I hear from the vegan people I know
>>
>>35660002
definitely. I wake up feeling fully awake and alert now too. Used to take me 30 mins to feel awake.
>>
>>35660002
Do you really think they have 'more energy' just because of cutting out 600 calories worth of animal products from their diet?

It's placebo, probably. If not they still have to rationalize their behavior. Fact is, vegans wind up deficient in zinc, b-12, taurine, lysine, methionine, fat, you name it. The benefits will likely outweigh the pros unless you meticulously supplement. Notwithstanding; You can try a vegan diet and see if it actually 'gives you energy'. I'm sure you will feel something
>>
>>35660148
don't tell me how I felt you complete cunt. Try it for yourself or shut the fuck up. Within a week I felt much more energetic. I didn't crash in the evening like I usually did and would feel noticeably more alert in the mornings. My girlfriend reported the same thing.

>Zinc
Beans, nuts, leafy greens
>B12
Fortified milk, fortified yogurts, fortified cereals, supplements if you don't want to or don't have access to fortified foods.
>inb4 muh supplements
there is literally nothing wrong with consuming supplements, especially when you consider that farm animals are given supplements too. Your B12 isn't coming from bacteria in the soil either, it's coming from supplements.
>taurine
produced in the body
>lysine
tofu, tempeh, seitan, legumes, quinoa
>methionine
seeds, nuts, grains
>fat
are you fucking serious right now? Nuts, seeds, avocados, olives, oils

>meticulously supplement
nah.

lentils are literally the greatest food on earth

"High intake of provitamin carotenoids (such as beta carotene) from vegetables and fruits does not cause hypervitaminosis A, as conversion from carotenoids to the active form of vitamin A is regulated by the body to maintain an optimum level of the vitamin. Carotenoids themselves cannot produce toxicity."

I already know every damn thing you just recanted in your post, and I still stick with what I said. I'm healthy now so I wouldn't risk going vegan because i actually have something to lose.

I'm glad that you became more healthy by becoming vegan, but just be aware that vegans TEND to be deficient in certain nutrients, because some are less bio-available in plant based foods than in meat or dairy.
Also, there is a palpable benefit to supplementing certain amino acids like taurine, tyrosine, arginine and BCAAs for their effects on metabolism, recovery and replenishing neurotransmitters and MANY other functions we haven't even discovered.

For some, a vegan diet might be a step up. For others, it might be a step down.

How about a mainly fish type of diet? I already went one round of cancer and don't want to increase my odds even in the slightest percentage by eating red meat. Before I get a retort on how I shouldn't be eating anything since in some way or another, through heat or just by mere consumption that it will end up carcinogenic, there are definitely ways to mitigate those chances by just having a type of food in smaller quantities.

I'm also not a "slave" to something ephemeral like taste and was never really a foodie to be tied to a certain diet, so if I could graze like a goat I would. Except for cheese. I fucking love cheese.
>>
>>35660511
If you're already healthy, red meat won't make you less healthy. The lifting you do and the fish, dairy and eggs you still consume are already raising your IGF-1 and testosterone levels, contributing to oxidation and anabolism which can lead to cancer growth. At the same time, the saturated fats, cholesterol and omega-3 you are consuming have all been shown to protect against cancer, and lifting weights has been shown to increase lifespan and protect against cancer by increasing insulin resistance and through other mechanisms.

The point is- you're going to die, and you can't pinpoint every carcinogen and eliminate all harm. Red meat probably won't hurt you.maybe you should avoid cured meats, and certainly try to consume primarily organic grass fed meat. But worries are trifles at some point.

Why does every vegan meal use a meat imitation. It's like vegans actually like meat but refuse to eat it do to some perceived superiority.

veggie burgers taste nothing like meat, they aren't comparable in texture or taste but they are delicious in their own right.
>>
>>35659032
Actually they would absolutely go extinct. There is no such thing as a wild chicken. Same with cows and pigs (there are wild boars I suppose if you want to get technical) of the three I might believe that some number of pigs might survive due to there slightly higher intelligence but cows and chickens? No way.
>>
>>35660874
Those things are only similar to burgers in that they're shaped like burgers, which is a pretty practical way to shape your food. I don't want to imitate the flesh, tendons, blood, and nerves on your plate.
>>
>>35660923
That's bullshit

no, it isn't

Why does every carnivorous meal use a dick imitation. It's like meat eaters actually like dick but refuse to eat it do to some perceived superiority.
>>
>>35660980
Because homosexuality has been illegal and considered immoral for much of human history and we are still dealing with the cultural consequences.
>>
>>35660978
my veggie burgers are made of beans, peas, peppers and onions. They are nothing like meat. You can get ones that imitate meat but not all of them do. In fact most of them don't.
>>
>>35660978
Have you tried an eggplant patty? Chickpea patty? Lentils patty? Zucchini patty? Nothing to do with meat, just a practical shape. Fits between two pieces of bread.

What's the current scientific consensus on the soy-estrogen connection
>>
>>35654407

>The evolutionary step of eating meat rather than vegetation was what provided our ancestors with the evolutionary advantage over our competitors. Meat has a higher calorific content than vegetation and provided them with the energy needed to advance brain development.
>So if we hadn't learned to cook and eat meat, we wouldn't be here toady.

If we assume that's true, what does that matter for what you should eat in the year 2016? We should just continue to gorge ourselves on meat purely out of appreciation?

>So if you want to talk about what's "natural", if anything eating meat( and indeed cooking it) is more "natural" than living on a purely vegetarian diet; a feat only made possible by our modern lifestyle.

If a totally natural lifestyle is what you care about, why are you on a computer and eating farm-raised meat instead of being out in the woods living under a roof made of leaves and eating scavenged roots and carrion?
>>
>>35661005
Chickpea patty is just hummus which is a poor substitute for pate and zucchini tastes like soggy pepperoni (but is still pretty good). haven't had the other 2
>>
>>35661031
because he is a hypocrite and clutching at straws for why veganism is stupid, like everyone who argues against veganism does.

>Cooking meat increases its caloric content

lol no lil' nigga.

For most people, moderate soy consumption is okay. Some people get gyno and high estrogen and other sides from it, but very few.
Asians eat a ton of soy, hell even most Americans eat soy in the form of soybean frying oil, food additives like emulsifiers, textured vegetable protein, lecithin, and many others. The meat we eat is from livestock which are fed soy, so every bit of GMO soy winds up on your plate if you live in America, basically. But not all Americans and certainly not all asians have high estrogen or gymecomastia.
I think the soy myth is overhyped
>>
>>35661024
In a 2005 study in the Journal of Nutrition, researchers comparing soy to casein concluded that "the biological value of soy protein must be considered inferior to that of casein protein in humans." Among other disadvantages, the researchers found, a significantly larger portion of soy is degraded to the waste product urea. Moreover, it contributes to less protein synthesis in the body.

"A protein like whey has much more robust biological effects than soy," acknowledges Kraemer. In terms of strength gains, however, he says more research is needed before he can provide definitive guidelines. "But my personal opinion is that soy protein is cheaper and whey protein is higher quality," he says. "There are also concerns that soy might decrease a man's testosterone production and increase his estradiol production, which we tend to associate with female hormone production."

I don't live in America. I live in Canada and I eat high quality grass fed beef and chicken.

I'll stick to my meat. I like the taste anyway.

I can visit the farm where the meat I buy comes from. Cows are all walkin around eat'n grass. Unless it rains, then they're layin down eating grass.

Considering there are people on this board who forgot fapping based on the myth that it increases test, you're gonna have a hard time convincing people here to eat a diet with a chance of increasing there estrogen levels

I was kind of trolling, but to me it seems logical that saturated fats would protect against heart disease. They only adversely affect cholesterol and triglycerides in a minority of people.

As far as cancer prevention, saturated fats are certainly better than consuming hydrogenated oils or heated PUFAs which cause inflammation and oxidation related to cancer. You'd be better off substituting in saturated fats for shitty omega-6 and trans oils so long as you exercise vigorously, have low bodyfat and no adverse cholesterol reaction to saturated fats
>>
>>35660254
I don't think that this is cause you don't eat animal protein or products, but cause you been now eating more greens, veggies and other nutrtitious stuff cause you gotta replace the animal products somehow.

This is the most logical explanation, or are you really saying that something in meat would make you tired? Maybe your body had a hard time digesting it if you ate a fuck ton of it, but otherwise that theory isn't too plausible. It's just that vegans's tends to have more variety in their diets cause they gotta use some imagination with their diet.
