Don't roll on the bones. You're supposed to be rolling the muscles in your back... not the spine. If you are rolling your spine, you have a great chance of actually herniating a disc. Roll the obliques and the glutes.
>>
>>35621987
You might be doing it wrong. You foam roll your muscles, not you spine, op

It's supposed to strengthen your muscles if anything
>>
No it doesn't weaken muscles.

And like others said you shouldnt be rolling on the bones. Not only is it dangerous but there's no benefit at all. If you have a tight back area use a lacrosse ball or tennis ball to roll pinpoint locations.
>>
FUCKING HELL brahs. Ive been freestyle foam rolling (on my spine especially) for a while and starting to feel messed up. PLs can this be fixd
>>
>>35622150

How bad is it? If you just stop doing it and be careful with back exercises you should be fine.
>>
Foam rolling is pretty underrated imo. I go into my squats so much more confident after a quick 5 minute session on the quads, it band, and hammies.
>>
What do I do if foam rolling my quads is the worst agony I've ever experienced?

What the fuck, you're not supposed to foam roll your back? Seriously I thought that was 90% of the point
>>
>>35622467
Keep doing it. Because it means you need it.

Pussy
>>
>>35622561
Should it eventually be painless?
>>
>>35622003
this desu
>>
>>35622556
I'm serious, pls respond
>>
when are you supposed to foam roll, anyway? immediately after lifting?
>>
>>35622556
>>35622744

Anon, foam rolling is supposed to loosen muscles. Your spine isn't a muscle. If you have back tightness you need to target the specific areas and avoid the spine.

It'll never be completely painless. You just get used to it.

>mfw rolling my IT band
>>
>>35622003
W-what... Anon I've had really bad lower back pain and foam rolling it has helped significant. Of course I don't put the whole weight on it, I support myself by putting most of the weight on my elbows
>>
>>35622768
pls
>>
>>35622768
I foam roll throughout the day, or when I wake up and usually again when I'm about to go to sleep. I have really bad lower back pain because it's always tight/tense but foam rolling has helped significantly
>>
>>35622768

i foam roll my glutes, IT band, and hips before I squat and it improves flexibility a shitload.

from what i understand it's useful for mobility in general, so doing it for mobility improvement before the movements you have trouble with is good, but doing it afterwards can help as well, just like static stretching.

I've tried foam rollers a few times. Every time I do I end up feeling crippled the next day. I think maybe these stupid-ass foam rollers are sized for skinny little cardio bunnies or something, but I've never seen any that are larger than 6" in diameter, I think I need something more like 12" in diameter.

>>
foam rolling shit did nothing but make it worse
I just take ice baths and stretch

meme rolling
>>
>>35622798

IT band is pure hell to foam roll. Makes me wonder if it's even safe to do so, I've heard various trainers advise against it.
>>
But can I foam roll upper back?
>>
>>35624658
Go for it. Foam rolling isn't going to fuck it up.
>>
Anybody know the name of the handheld roller thing is called? Kinda like a foam roller but a lot thinner and with handles, looks like an ab wheel without the wheel.
Brett Gibbs uses it in a few of his vids.
