You're more likely to inure yourself with leg press. Do squats, start light and gradually build up. Squatting down an standing up was a natural movement for everyone before we started spending our lives sitting at an office desk.

Not really, unless you're piling on a ridiculous amount of weight you're more at risk of using bad form and injuring yourself starting with squats than a leg press.

Not necessarily true. I started lifting and went from a barely A to a full B. I usually gain weight on my tummy, but when my boobs filled out I only put on 2-3 pounds, and my tummy looked the same. 28 years old btw, and not pregnant, and the change was stable across several menses. The only thing I changed was adding lifting (other than not being stressed for the first time in my life since I was a teenager, yay financial stability and conquering anorexia!).
