Anybody here do Shaolin kung fu?
What did it do for your gainz? My ass is like a fucking diamond-hard sculpture from doing Horse stance every day. It's fucking glorious.
If you want to learn shaolin kung fu, then you must first learn Kalaripayuttu.
Not gonna lie, I trained in qing gong a decade ago in China (that's the stuff that supposedly let's Chinese people fly). I learned to jump up walls and do a ton of flips and shit, and when I moved back to the US , everyone was like "oh that's just parkour, wanna go for a run this weekend?" And all these small nigs and pajeets were effortlessly doing what took me years to master.
As long as you can. You don't just train your legs to last longer, but your mind to withstand the pain longer. Eventually you can last so long that your legs start shaking uncontrollably like mad but you'll still stay the fuck up.
>tfw the only shaolin monk who tried MMA got his shit handed to him (not yin li, that faggot isn't even really shaolin)
>shaolin masters discourage students from joining MMA because they know they will be exposed as bullshit-fu artists.
>claim to be pacifistic, and to fight only out of self defense, not to injure or cause death
>still can't handle fighting in an octogon where the only rules are no tickling, biting, hair pulling, eye gouging or dangerous moves that could lead to serious injury or death.
it's not too deadly for MMA... it's too ineffective.
literally less effective than pretty much any joke martial art you can think of (Excepting capoiera - but even mcgregor found use with the "flow" aspect of that art.)
I have a friend who does long fist kung fu. He tried to spar with our friends who do muay thai, kickboxing etc.. and got knocked out within 40 seconds.
He was a good sport about it, said he needs to work harder. Kinda mired him.
I am starting tai chi and I do qi gong daily. Feels good breh.
Also soft styles beat hard.
>mfw sifu steve gets his shit pushed in by an accountant with 6 months training
That's all you should need to know to stay away from this faggotry.
Real martial arts involve modern fighting techniques. Enjoy your jazzercise.
There is more than one style of systema breh,
What you are thinking of is ryabko systema, which has presented a lot of bullshit. It has some good points on posture, breathing, striking and some body manipulation, however it can be very heard to learn unless you are with a legit instructor.
Combat systema and Kadochnikov systema are legit. Kadochinkov systema was invented by a mechanical (I think mechanical) engineer. It relies heavily on physics and math it's a good grounded art. I have some videos from the soviet union of the guy who invented it teaching it to soviet soldiers.
Nah I don't do King-Kong-Nip-Nong bullshit.
I got pretty good at hitting targets at 300yds.
You queers ever seen the last Samurai, where all the Cruise-Cucks charge hopelessly on a relatively freshly conscripted army?
That film was retarded.
Samurai began training with firearms pretty much as soon as Japan opened trade with the West. Japanese proto-martial arts were designed to supplement armed combat with whatever weapon a warrior had, the idea being if he lost his weapon or had to fight hand to hand he could.
These training techniques would later become jujitsu, then judo.
I don't disagree with you.
But you're a queer.
I'm kidding. You are correct, but do you honestly expect OP who posts his life away while studying some cuck magic to take anyone else?
I used to do it back when I was 18. I was super skinny back then. I didn't eat right .
We basically held stances, did endless forms until we were on the verge of puking, sparring, stretching, and other random things like weapons, kicks training, splits from the ceiling, running, and of course meditation.
I was extremely flexible. If I did it today I'm guessing it would strengthen you as far as you would like to take it. The forms would get intense. gotta be good for cardio, balance, cordination, speed, strength.
I never trained long enough to do iron body training but my instructor could do some incredible shit with his body. Hell everything he did was pretty amazing.
Sorry for threadjackijg but what happened to the FHG? Havent been on for about two months
He could claw the bark off fucking trees! The guy in sparring would sweep you and attack from cartwheels single Hand across neck and claw to the throat (of course not harming).
He was an amazing guy for sure.
I know, i know. You're going to google it and find loads of fat assholes doing bullshit techniques on compliant opponents.
We don't train kata, we do train against compliant ukes but also spar full contact with gloves.
Kung fu seems rough as hell on the joints without any notable conditioning benefit.
Just do yoga and agility training. Judo, wrestling, or some form of boxing if you want cardio plus fighting skills.
Here's a video that has some of the footage I was talking about...
Here's some channels on youtube
st. louis systema
Basically I treat systema as a hobby, until I actually learn from a legit teacher it's gonna stay that way for me. Although relaxed striking and fighting posture and breathing for muscle relaxation are really nice.
Go study. Like anything horse stance is about building up tolerance, like op said not just physical but mental, which is why alongside the physical aspects of kung fu it is equally important to practice the mental aspects.
The physical and mental benefits if studied properly will oustound you.
system most laughable "martial art" ever.
I guess learning shitty knife defense is just natural selection.
if shaolin training had some badass fitness techniques then we would see pro body builders and faggy youtubers doing that shit. but no they just rot in their mountains. obviously they are great at freakshow kind of shit, but they dont have any amazing fitness regimes.
Plenty of benefits to it if you are willing to study it, even hammer fist techniques. If you literally just want to fight then it isn't for you, studying it is a lot more than that, loads of form work too. Alongside tai chi and qigong there are many health benefits.
Kalariwhatever is the earliest verifiable, codified martial art. Didn't watch the video but it's not like whacking niggers with a stick didn't exist but there was no known formalised "syllabus" prior to it
>g to study it, even hammer fist techniques. If you literally just want to fight then it isn't for you, studying it is a lot more than that, loads of form work too. Alongside tai chi and qigong there are many health benefits.
So mma is effective against swords?
>iron body training b
I trained with a guy that did Iron Vest start to finish and he was spooky. he used to let us break broomsticks over his arms and back with no marks whatsoever and he was impossible to take down. I was wrestling and doing BJJ at the time and probably spent 2-3 hours a week working nothing but takedowns, I outweighed him by 50lbs but I would shoot and grab his leg and zip. nada. it was like trying to tackle a tree.
weird shit. I learned his regime and started the training but I went too fast and fucked myself up pretty bad, kinda learned my lesson on combat qigong
last I checked mma was a sport and they remove literally anything that can severely injure the opponent. MMA is bad ass dont get me wrong I train every week. Shoalin is a completely different animal. Its made for protecting kingdoms in ancient times. sure its been dumbed down by the communist but its still has some of its orginal spirit locked in there.
If you practice MMA to get in the octogon on TV you're just a glorified actor for all its worth. Shaolin fighters are the most deadly of all martial ways but you can't really show that on television because the outcome would make bad ratings from dismemberment or death. No one wants to see a guy gouge someones eyes out or collapse his lungs on camera.
>Go watch MMA
>Guys dance around each other
>Throw a punch or two
>Someone is tackled to the floor
>Spend the rest of the round rolling on top of each other
>Rinse and repeat until match is over
I'd like to see something a bit more intense. I'm sure a disciplined fighter would understand that they can't kill someone on TV and refrain from doing so, so there should be no reason to bar other styles.
MMA is really just flailing for the most part. If you're not a boxer, you can counteract a standup fight by wrestling a guy to the ground.
This was prob highlighted to me during the McGregor fight when two good fighters went in waving their arms around and McGregor got lucky with a face punch.
I just watch Wushu these days, its scripted but the athleticism and agility needed to pull of those moves are badass
show us some people actually fighting supposedly using this system, otherwise it's just packaged bullshit just like shaolin kungfu
anybody can look good when they are demonstrating on a willing participant
You spelled NXT wrong. Pro wrestling is great when done well, and if you have a slightly different opinion on this (or anything) than I do you can shove your dick in a pencil sharpener
I would learn the way of the monkey, monkey quan of shaoling gong fu
>shaolin masters discourage students from joining MMA
>claim to be pacifistic, and to fight only out of self defense, not to injure or cause death
Wow, I wonder why they would discourage students from joining a sport where all you do is try to cause harm to the other person I really can't imagine
People don't swing wildly at the air in MMA and other professional fighting (nonscripted) because it opens you up, makes you more tired and accomplishes nothing. The argument that an art is too "deadly" for MMA is useless; the first UFC (The Ultimate Fighter tournament etc.) had no rules and everyone got BTFO by a skinny faggot who did jujutsu and didn't even lift. Also if you can't apply your art without using "deadly force" you are absolutely a shitty fighter with no discipline and would get BTFO'd by a half-decent martial artist anyway.
Why the fuck is everybody going on about the fighting aspect when 75% of shaolin kung fu isn't even ABOUT fighting? It's about discipline, conditioning, strengthening and gaining full control over your body to attain a certain spiritual state.
A fucking janitor can be kung fu, a pilot can be kung fu, it's about attaining a kind of perfection in your craft.
This is a thread about fitness, not fucking MMA, fuck off, nobody gives a flying fuck about your shitty sport. Fucking derailing faggots think it's all about them.
Because you do that without getting cucked and learning a less effective fighting system
Discipline - any martial art
Conditioning - any martial art
Strength - Lifting or Calisthenics (which you will do in any martial art)
Gaining full control over your body - Any martial art
there is no evidence Qigong is real and most actual testing suggests it's just the regular effects of controlled breathing
Why waste time doing Shaolin Kung Fu when I can do another martial art and make the same mind/body gains while actually learning to fight too?
About as /fit/ as any Asian who devotes their entire life to that purpose.
>Why waste time doing Shaolin Kung Fu
Yeah, someone like you WILL waste their time doing shaolin kung fu because it's not a fighting system, lel. It's like you're an airline pilot saying it's faster than F1 racing so you're better.
Yeah you're totally right, systema has a huge body guarding element to it. There is a martin wheeler discovery channel video on youtube where they talk and demonstrate this.
Toss my salad, dick weed. If you are so interested go look up systema fights. I've given you some of the best free resources to learn some systema, I accidentally clicked this page off the first time I was making that post and almost didn't rewrite it.
Taking this thread as inspiration I started my day with Horse stance followed by a number of yoga stretches
>feels good bro
10/10 would recommend
As long as it doesn't feel bad/weird/uncomfortable. You'll gain time easily, don't worry.
If you do it correctly, 30sec to a minute is a good goal to shoot for.
Yeah, Horse stance is really something else. It's like it doesn't just strengthen your legs, but your entire body. I get so much fucking mental and physical energy from it. Don't got a single day without it anymore.
>If you do it correctly, 30sec to a minute is a good goal to shoot for.
made a sketch
lol system is a scam created by a fat russian guy who claimed to be special forces. you would have to be so god damn gullible to fall for the whole krav-like too deadly to spar meme. any "martial art" that just shows you goofy knife defense and choreographed fight sequences rather than ACTUAL SPARRING is 100 percent bullshit.
Your drawing skills were straight out of kindergarten though. The torso is about 15* incline and your shoulders should be back with right angled knees and 120* or so between your legs
So, bare knuckle boxing is bullshit?
Because, you know, people didn't do sparring during, say, mendoza's era, just partner drills.
In fact, sparring is pretty shit, it makes you afraid of being hit and you start fighting carefully. Which is a death sentence in street fights.
t. did both
>if it was badass, a bunch of preening faggots who only care about looking good for instagram pictures and posing in their underwear in front of other men would have started doing it by now
I bet you think bodybuilding is a sport, too.
then dont get hit faggit
you need to develop proper reflexes if you actually want to fight. LARPING at a mcdojo kung fu place while telling yourself that your moves are too dangerous for the street will not actually make you safer.
>I'd like to see something a bit more intense. I'm sure a disciplined fighter would understand that they can't kill someone on TV and refrain from doing so, so there should be no reason to bar other styles.
MMA doesn't bar any styles. The boring grappling and wrestling based styles you see are so prevalent because they have proven themselves to be superior to the more interesting styles. The "interesting" styles just can't defeat a fighter with a strong ground game.
