I've started using Apple-cider vinegar as a sort of home-made chemical peel. It's a harsh substance but if you dilute it, it's ok. My thinking is that it will break down the build-up of older skin which I think is what makes wrinkles. I heard a while ago that it works to remove moles, if you soak cotton wool in ACV and stick it over the mole with a bandage then repeat until the mole has gone. If it agitates the skin they recommended smearing vaseline over the skin around the mole to protect it from the ACV.

Enzymes do break things down, they're used in industrial detergents and meat tenderiser and the digestive system. If they're denatured by high heat then you will have to expend more of your own internal production to digest food, since what you've eaten won't do any of its own work breaking itself down. Digestion takes longer, you use more enzymes over time - you therefore have less to spend on clearing up debris in the blood.

Enzymes are mostly proteins so they get denaturated or broken down on digestion.
