If he's 5'4 that obviously he.la him deadlift more due to a decreased range of motion, especially if he has long arms.
2pl8 isn't impressive though. Neither is 3pl8. Come back to me when he deadlifts 4pl8 for a set of 5.

When I started lifting at 15 I could not lift shit.
Now that im 20 I am actually starting to see some progress but its still minimal. I guess I have really high estrogen or something because I'm a fat weak manlet with wide hips.

Same situation family. I started lifting at 17 and I couldn't gain barely any muscle. I could bench 2pl8 in a year but I looked like fucking trash. When I turned 21 I threw away my natty card.

I started a little bit overweight. I was never really fat or anything, but 5'11 190ish at my heaviest. I cut while doing ICF 5x5 on 2k cals a day until I got to ~155 lbs. Then I ate a ~200 cal surplus for a long time putting on some decent mass. I did Texas Method for a while, but my upper body stalled hard on it, so I switched to a 5/3/1 variation with a 5th day each week for extra bench volume. Now I'm still doing that and seeing good results. If you want to do 5/3/1 later, definitely look into joker sets and first set last. I think they help a ton.
