is a diet high in animal protein positively or negatively correlated with lifespan?
i keep hearing about how animal protein is killing us and that plant based diets will lead to more longevity but i dont know what sources to read or if its just fagscience.
do you guys know?
for what its worth i have heard that red meat is correlated with cancer and heart disease so when i say animal proteins its more in reference to chicken and fish.
avoid processed foods
some junkie is going to stab you or someone will crash into you in traffic anyways before you get to be 50
>>42509230
everything in moderation really. A bit of meat a day does have health benefits, just don't have it as your primary source of kcals by any means.
Japan has the most people that live past 100 and fish is a staple of their diet. Fishing provinces in Canada have the highest life span in our country.
>>42509230
It is difficult to suss out the objectively best diet because there are so many confounding variables. Sure, people who eat a lot of red meat likely have shorter life spans... but thats because there is a fair chance that meet is paired with unhealthy side dishes, too few vegetables, and alcohol.
It's a fair bet to say that somebody who is vegan is also aware of the important of calorie counting and at least trying to get your micros. Any data about "meat" vs "no meat" is biased from the start, since "meat" is the default and captures everybody in our society's disgustingly high obesity rate.
Just count your calories, try to eat more fish (better micro counts that red meat), and always make sure to get a good amount of green veggies. Anything more is arguing with data that has a high likelihood of being tainted.

How will PLG ever recover?
>>42509228
>study not linked
plus, the study is about people who are generally overweight, but have ok bp and chol. levels. a lot of people who clock in as "overweight" on a BMI or call themselves strongfat are bulky because of their muscle belly size, not the fat they have on their body (a stark contrast most fat people with good blood numbers).
>How will PLG ever recover?
not at all, there's nothing to recover from dummy
>It revealed excess weight is linked with an increased risk of heart disease, even when people have a healthy metabolic profile.
fuckin shocker
>>42509228
Everyone knows this. PowerLine tend to be heavier because we accept the risk that carrying more body fat gives in order to maximize the amount of weight we can lift.

FUUUUUUK
Sometime in the future I want to start a beginner strength program (probably Greyskull or a bodyweight routine).
I am already running 3 times a day (couch to 5k) and I was wondering if doing three days of a strength program and 2 days of running with 2 days rest on the weekend would be overkill?
I have some experience lifting, I tried doing SL for a while but stopped when I maxed out my dumbbell set.
>>42509158
Not overkill, I do 6 days a week of strength training and 2 days a week running
>>42509158
I do the same thing and no it wont over train you.
Over training is when you work out all the time sometimes multiple times a day with no rest days and even then I have a hard time believing over training because I worked 6 10 hour days a week doing manual labor and lifting heavy with only 3 breaks per day and I never over trained.
so I play in an adult received league and even though I am about 6'2 and 180 pounds, I have noticed I have almost no hitting power. I have been told I have good technique but I just don't have power in general. I am semi muscular so that snot the problem but I was wondering if any baseball or softball players have tips for me to get more power like best muscle groups to work or drills to do. any help is appreciated. for reference I can only hit about 230 feet where other guys my size in the league can easily hit upward of 300 if not 350.
Do strongman training. Also, gain weight.
op here sorry for spelling mistakes I don't have time to check bouta hit the bed

Look up Eric Cressey, he's a professional coach who has his own website and also writes for t-nation sometimes. His specific area of expertise is coaching for explosive power for baseball and shoulder prehab/rehab. He's very knowledgable and gives great advice, his videos and tips helped me a lot with shoulder rehab post-dislocation. Check him out.
Been eating terribly for the past 4 days after weight cutting for wrestling season ended (We're talking entire packages of oreos here). How do I go back to eating like a normal person after eating like an anorexic and now a fucking fatass?
>>42509033
just switch to being a cyclist, literally eat whatever you want and stay the same weight. When I was riding a bit more after a 60 mile ride at a decent speed I could grab a large dominos and a 6 pack and have both finished in 45 minutes and not gain a pound.

>>Research certs and philosophies of programs.
>>Pick NASM and begin self-studying text for 8 months in my spare time.
>> Finally enroll in self-guided study program.
>>Last week passed final exam and now I wait to take my cert exam.
As I have worked in the health and fitness world more while I studied I noticed the "real-world" expectations and scenarios from business to program design and client interest in the sciences is not what these programs teach you about. (Duh).
I am curious what /Fit/ thoughts on if you had to choose a program to cert through for the quality of education which would you pick? Pros/cons.
My program and book don't direct me to great places to check for current studies/research to keep up with industry changes. Got any?
Having come from the film industry to fitness as a profession is a whirlwind. Love the mind-body connection I get when I workout or articulating movement. Anyone else have some profound changes after starting a more fitness focused life style?
>>42508331
NASM is pretty much the standard when it comes to certs. Further your education through colleges if you can, even just a community college. One certification is enough to get your foot in the door for the industry but not going to be enough to make a living off of. You need to continue education and never stop. As far as keeping up with recent studies, NSCA and equivalents are usually churning stuff out. At some point in time, you may need to focus down on a single realm regarding "health + fitness". This includes but just isn't limited to: rehabilitation (PT, Chiro, etc), Strength+/conditioning, body composition/nutritionist work
>>42508698
To add onto this regarding business advice, start in a commercial gym in order to gain a foundation of experience. You need to be comfortable in sales, working with people, and producing results. After a couple years in this, look into starting your own thing. You may have to rent out space at first but doing this will make you much more money as the commercial gyms will rob you of most of the PT you sell. Marketing is key and that means keeping yourself in decent shape aesthetically between your physique and staying clean cut+ well dressed. Be as outgoing as possible and make your service be known. Make your educational achievements be known as well as your previous clients' progress.
I know that members of the armed forces frequent this board, so I'll just cut to the chase.
I'm looking to enlist in the military. I've spent a whole year getting /fit/. I've gotten all of my shit together. I've prepared myself in every way possible. I did all of this, just to join the military. But there's one problem.
I have an extensive history of mental health issues. I was misdiagnosed with Asperger's, I was diagnosed with clinical depression, I attempted suicide once, I had a 504/IEP in high school, I had continuous therapy and psychiatry visits, and I was hospitalized four times for inpatient care.
I know that this means a permanent disqualification, with little to no hope of a waiver, but let me tell you about the things that I'm hoping will increase my chances of a waiver.
I have been stable without my medication for a full year. I stopped taking my medication only to join the military.
I have a relative who is a brigadier general in the Air Force to vouch for me.
I maintained a 3.8 GPA throughout high school, scored high on my SAT (and even the practice ASVAB tests that I took), and never used the only two accommodations which were listed in my 504/IEP. The IEP and 504 were forced onto me since I was hospitalized, and I purposely only chose two, very insignificant accommodations. I have two letters from the two different schools I attended which confirm that I never used the accommodations.
So my question. Is it, even in the slightest sense, possible that I could receive a medical waiver? Even in a miraculous sense?
>>42507831
> I have a relative who is a brigadier general
Thats all you had to say. Dont say shit to the recruiter. However, no matter how physically fit you are, training is mentally debilitating and breaks you before it builds you. Think of the shittest day at work youve ever had; if it made you massively depressed or suicidal, army training is that shit day at work times a hundred, for months on end. Im sure you can wrangle a way in, but its more about whether you personally have the mental fortitude to not suck start a rifle when shit gets tough.
Im just a bong squaddie and dont know how it is in the US, but if a brigadier general vouches for you, whichever red faced shouty man at the recruiters will probably bend over backwards to get you in.
I am a fat fuck give me some tips to lose this weight cuz I am sick of not fitting nice clothes I am sick of being embaressed to go to a Pool and to be with girls tosay is the Day im changing
