12 hard sets would be something like.

DB Shoulder Press (3 sets of 5-10)

6-12 fluff sets would consist of Chest Flys, Lateral Raises, Skull-crushes etc.

I don't know much about fitness and I have a slightly contradictory goal.

I'm skinny fat, I want to get rid of my belly, but I don't want to lose the amount of muscle that I've gained.

So I keep reading everywhere that if you want to lose weight, you need to burn more calories than what you consume, but at the same time, if you want to have more muscle mass, you need to be consuming more calories than what you burn.

So what the hell should I do? Which one should I worry about first?

as long as you have a healthy BMI, you should just eat maintenance calories, and lift for strength. Get enough protein and sleep, and you'll get leaner in time.
