Alright mods, I'm gonna need to you explain to me really clearly how the pic related "FPH" thread was on topic, but then you issued warnings to people responding very directly and on topic to the OP for being "off topic". Either delete an off topic thread, or accept the consequences of leaving it up. Pic related was not /fit/ related just because the OP slapped a FPH on the subject line, and making political responses to such a political thread isn't off topic to the thread just because you /pol/ sympathizers don't like it when the OP gets btfo'd.

You can consider this the daily hiro sanctioned "how do we improve the board" thread.

Pic related was my initial response to that thread, which I got an "off topic" warning for. My response was very on topic in response to the OP, but some buttblasted /pol/ sympathizing mod issued me a warning for it.

Hey /fit/

I began working out regularly for the first time in my life at the start of this summer and I have never felt better. I am going to head back to college in about a month and my college town is incredibly small and as a result has no gym.

I was thinking about getting a basic weight set to keep in the dorm so I can keep working out while I'm on campus but I don't think it would compare to actually going to the gym daily.

Any of you guys have some in dorm/home workout tips for someone with no gym access?

It has a gym but you can barely call it that.

Never enough weights, little to no equipment etc.

We have track but I can go running anywhere.

buy a pull up bar which you drill into the wall and put dip rings to that, cheaper and you can add more weight into that.

What if pull up bar isn't suitable for my apartment? I need something I can move easily and also do other routines on. Isn't a pull up bar just limited?

Okay boys, /g/ here. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I'm going to be NEET for about 4 months. In addition to a programming project I'm going to pick up, I want to devote most or all of my time to getting /fit/. I'm starting out skinnyfat mode and these are my resources:
>some instant protine shake powder things my gf uses (shakeology)
>2 15 pound dumbells
>pull up bar
>dense neighborhood which is great for running
I also have a pit bull which instead of walking twice a day I'm going to start running twice a day to get the cardio in.
How can I achieve ottermode in four months?

>How can I achieve ottermode in four months?
You can't. Try one year and four months.
>>
>ottermode with a pull up bar, cardio, and babyweights

Not possible.
You're also going to probably say "fuck it" and quit after the 4 months is up so piss off
>>
>>42128702
>>42128717
Accepted. Let me rephrase, how can i make myself a really nice foundation for achieving ottermode later on in four months. I should have had more realistic expectations.

talk to your doctor but maybe callisthenics to maintain upper body and swimming/hiking for lower body?
>>
i think you can still lift its just gonna be a very cautious process. DO NOT listen to a doctor about powerlifting, they dont think people with healthy spines should be doing it. Try and find a physical therapist based around weight training in your area and get his opinion. Tons of people make gains with injuries, you just have to be very cautious. You expierenced the easy gains part of powerlifting, now your reaolve is being a tested and you want to give up, sounds like you dont really care about it much.

I got into lifting in order to manage my scoliosis. I have been very careful about it tho.

I gather you're retarded

So I've decided to start getting /fit/. I'm going to buy a gym membership after payday which is soon. For the time being I've been waking up and straight away doing a 20 minute dumbbell routine and then going for a jog.

My question is, is it bad that I'm working out before eating anything? Should I carry on doing this or wake up earlier eat and then workout? Also is it counter productive to jog afterwards?

Hey Mitch.

eh?

>An almost ‘sideline’ finding is that in the men’s athletes, the throwers have lower T values than marathon runners and race walkers, which the authors call “an unexpected result”. They attribute it to doping, which I think is reasonable – the athletes are using steroids up to the competition, and when they stop, so as to avoid detection by doping tests, they have a typical withdrawal response, and lower T levels at the event.

Does testosterone ruin your body that bad?

notice how the throwers in this study are older, thats a important factor
i bet some running shoes company paid for this survey
>>
>>42129640
add: take a look at the female chart, the older groups tend to have lower T
>>
>>42128458
Another reason could be: throwers don't need to move their own bodyweight, so they get fat while maximizing strength, and high bodyfat is associated with low test.
Don't be fat.

Is this affecting my gains?
Someone explain this shit to me. Insulin is "the most anabolic hormone" but also leads to fat gain. How do I find the balance?
A strategy I thought would work was cardio before breakfast to deplete glycogen stores so the carbs (oatmeal) I do eat at breakfast are sent to glycogen stores and not fat cells. Also, carbs after my workout because glcogen is also depleted then.

>>
>>42128349
Concentrated protein sources also cause a spike in insulin with none of the carbs to be stored as fat. I'll let you figure out what the most useless macronutrient is.

>its carbs
>>
>>42128430
That's not how it works. The spike in insulin from concentrated protein sources isn't beneficial, it just means you have insuling floating around in your blood with no glycogen to interact with, although it does interact with protein to some degree.

OP, carbs do not turn into fat unless you overconsume, search up "de novo lipogenesis". The body has 3 stages before the carbs turn into fat.

1. Glycogen is stored in muscles
2. Glycogen is stored in the liver
3. Increased oxidation, increased body temp.
4. Glycogen is converted to fat

Just check the research, it takes serious overfeeding to induce carb to fat conversion. Fat pretty much goes directly to your fat stores, think about how salmon is rich in Omega 3's, that's not because they produce it, it's because they eat foods that contain Omega 3's that gets stored in their fat cells. So the fatty chains go pretty much directly from digestion to storage, like in us. As long as we are talking unrefined carbs, and you are not overfeeding like crazy, there is aboslutely no reason so plan your carb intake according to some idea of insulin induced fat storage.

What would be beneficial in your plan is not that the carbs aren't turned into fat but that you would be using body fat as secondary, and then primary fuel source in your morning workout.
