Simple question, are Topcoats for men fa?
Like mid 20 year old.
Hard to pull off but yeah
a timeless sartorial staple
yeah but if you need to ask then you probably cant pull it of
>>9000448
Just ordered this pretty fucker
I'm sorta hyped
Hmm I was wondering if they had the same stigma as a trench coat.
But I'm gonna get a decent one for 300-400 $.
I'm growing to hate the hoodie look I wear in the winter. Not classy
>>9000448
Is this a topcoat or what? I think he said it was from H&M but I can't remember.
just ordered this.
Winter is coming... ;)

if its from h&m, then i got the same one 2 weeks ago
>>9000634
I'm thinking dark jeans, plain darkish shirt .
>>9000650
yeah, that'll work
you could try a white shirt or a cable knit sweater in black/white and it would probably look good.
i have this one from saint laurent
>>9000724
looks p sick. post a fit? :)
>>9000724
I have a similiar one. A used american navy coat, but I wore it only one time since I bought it, since it does not really fit my wardrobe or my situation at the moment. Was only 50 €, though.
They go great with fedoras!
>>9001804
Good one dude, classic and timeless meme.
Anything that slightly resembles a coat is paired with a fedora.
Nice.
Epic.
I like it.
I wonder if anyone requesting bomber/parkas in the future will be ripped on and told to pair it with a HY.
>>9000724
u lucky bastard
>>9001804
Top coats, not trench coats or dress jacket, you illiterate mongrel
>>9000724
Moderately jelly.
Yeah, OP. Topcoats are /fa/ as fuck. I've got a single breasted from Paul Smith and a double from Dior. I find that the Smith one doesn't work casually AT ALL. The Dior one somehow manages to be pulled off quite well casually. Probably due to its navy color. Mine are also a bit longer than the one in your picture.
more like the length of>>9000508
I would say that the most important thing about any Topcoat is to get it properly tailored. Getting the waist nipped, more fitted onto your back, and the sleeves narrowed a bit will make it look 10000000x better
>>9000724
idk about those golden buttons, I'm sure it could be styled very nicely though
>>9001815
>I would say that the most important thing about any Topcoat is to get it properly tailored. Getting the waist nipped, more fitted onto your back, and the sleeves narrowed a bit will make it look 10000000x better
eh I dunno, I like having a bit of drape
>>9001834
>unsure of navy plus gold
>>9001845
That's cool m8. I just prefer that super defined look.
>>9001846
nah I just think it limits its workability in certain fits, of course I could be wrong
I'm thinking of buying this, its from Next.
What is the difference between a topcoat and a peacoat?
bought this coat 2 years ago, didn't lurk /fa/ back then.
i-is it o-okay...?
>>9001889
Why are there so man pockets? This probably looks like shit in person...not saying it doesn't look like shit online
>>9001889
peacoat: always double breasted, short, ugly, fits boxy, ugly lapels, looks bad open and closed
topcoat: dope, sometimes double breasted, sometimes single breasted, can have a tailored fit, long, cool lapels, doesnt look very good closed
>>9001889
peacoats are short, double breasted and lame as fuck. That one is particularly lame with the button flaps, the zips and the weird zip collar.
>>9001893
post a fit with it :)
>>9001902
Not him, but chesterfields are pretty much topcoats, right?
Either way I really like chesterfields, sometimes hard to tell what's what with these things.
>>9001921
well it's midnight here, and i'm naked in my bed, so I can't, but pic related, imagine that with the coat.
r8
>>9001949
shit, dnc
Camel and Navy topcoats are GOAT at the moment; Loosely structured, minimalist design, camel or navy.
Long coats are sickest outerwear choice
Bombers and parkas are lame

I have a black one and a camel one, need to get a few new knitted sweaters, I was thinking a navy acne turtleneck and a grey SLP crewneck? Or would a winter white sweater be best?

Can someone please explain what the fuck single breasted and double breasted even is?
>>9002330
How many breasts do u have?
U even like boobs fgt?
>>9002330
not a100 percent correct explanation but
single breasted: 1 row of buttons
double: 2 rows of butto,s
:)
>>9002330
How many lines of buttons there are, double breasted coats are generally warmer.
I mean damn bro just look at the pictures ITT

Yeah fair dues though, but only if the parka is actually waterproof
w2c navy single breasted topcoat that won't set me back a month's worth of living costs?
Zara's got some nice ones but, you know, Zara.
Slim or skinny jeans?
To be more specific; 511's or Slim with taper?
>>9002438
I would see more of a slim fit, too skinny feel to juvenile for topcoats to make it work
>>9002438
Slim, but 511 aren't too skinny either
>>9000508
Yeah, it is H&M. Although it looks surprisingly good considering the brand, I wouldn't recommend it. Way too thin. You won't survive the winter in it.

This one looks good but they always do on a model.
>>9002429
weekday, but they look loooonggg as fuckk on asos
Long coats make you look like a washed out college kid who took a film class and is out to ''find himself''.
Especially so if you leave it unbuttoned.
>>9000448
No....the guy in the pic is in his 30's a model and still looks like a neck beard
You look like a child and look no where near as attractive
>>9000448
ohh such a nice coat, but the price is like my 6month budget for clothes

Is there a way a manlet(5'7) can wear one of these or do I have to wear kid versions of these?
>>9004225
the look i'm going for, where are some good ones?
>>9000448
Topcoats are hella appropriate for mid 20s - def. recommend it if you can pull it off
>>9004350
Fucking kidding me man 5"7 and you call yourself a manlet? HOLY SHIT MAN get some that big fckn self-esteem
>>9004379
News Flash: the manlet meme is legit. Anything under 6' feet for a man is pathetic. 5'10 and 5'11 are passable. But anything under that and you might as well become a woman.
Thinking of getting a new long coat for the winter.
But cant choose between a grey or a black one.
Grey is nice cause fur and stuff won't be as visible like on a black one.
What would be the minimum age to pull it off and not look like a try hard. or should you just not give a fuck and rock it ?
>>9005089
don't give a fuck man
Is this a 'topcoat'? What is my coat damnit

as long as the coat fits and you're wearing clothes that match its formality level, you can be 15 and still look good
>>9005112
Folk Luc coat
>>9005127
Nah u can wear one with sneakers. Like in the Asian dude's fit
>>9004225
going to cop the Acne Charles one in black and rock that exact look. I'm even a film student
>>9005134
i guess, but it's a little harder to pull off. and i feel that the younger you are, the more it will seem like a mistake.
the most important point is making sure it's weather-appropriate. wearing a beanie and a thick doublebreasted wool coat in 60 degree weather will always look tryhard
>>9005157
Lmao why would you pay retail for that
>>9005168
because i can
>>9005102
You look at Folk and that's what you pick?
>>9005439
Much prefer mine :o. more interesting
>>9005439
>that waist
lmao
makes him look fat as fuck
GET THAT SHIT NIPPED BITCH
>>9005469
It's fits much slimmer IRL, very nice material too.
>>9005497
Yh folk is good quality. Way better than acne :p
if I buy at Zara, will I regret it?
>>9005509
You can say that again, I tried the Folk coats and the Acne Garret on in the same day and the Folk was sooo much nicer. The Garret just felt stiff when the Folk coat was lovely and soft all over, seriously the only nicer materials I found in coats were on Burberry and Rick coats.
>>9005522
yep
>>9001834
I feel that. That's why I tend to like Balmain. They use muted silver buttons that are a bit more versatile and less flashy.
>inb4 ridiculous crest on balmain buttons is flashy
Important thing about topcoats is to pick the proper length. If you're a manlet, never get a coat that's knee length or longer. It'll make you look shorter than you already are. Tall guys can pull off a longer length.
>>9001936
A chesterfield is a type of overcoat, which is generally a thicker/heavier type of topcoat.
>>9005523
People bag on Folk for their country of manufacture, but their fabrics and notions are always on point.
>>9002273
Uniqlo has a wool/cashmere chesterfield. No experience with the quality.
>>9002330
Double breasted means that there are a set of buttons running down the length of each breast. This causes an overlap of fabric when buttoned, essentially creating a double layer for extra warmth.
>>9005541
It's not too bad; the fit is pretty nice overall, but the wool isn't terribly thick. It makes a pretty good outer layer but it's nothing that'll keep you super warm without anything underneath it.
>>9005078
Black is too formal for most occasions and it's hard to pair well. Work off of the same rules as suits. Navy and grey are most versatile. Certain shades of brown work as well. A camel topcoat is classic, but harder to pull off than navy or grey.
>>9005545
Well yeah, a trench coat isn't really considered a topcoat. It's common enough to just be known as a trench coat. Besides the belt, it also implies waterproof or at least weather resistant. Topcoats are usually wool and meant to protect/cover whatever's underneath (traditionally a suit). They have a more generous cut to accommodate whatever's underneath and no belt because no wartime need to hang things from the coat for easy access.
What you guys think about long cardigan?
