when we were kids my dad used to have a full togo set. I don't remember much (I was really young) but he had to dump them because we ruined them by jumping and dicking around.

I am now 26 and as a furniture enthusiast I can only imagine how mad he had to be. Not long ago I got really angry cuz my nephew almost made my noguchi table tumble and push the twitter dome of my bower and wilkins loudpseaker.

Christ, I'd like to have kids one day but the tought of them fucking up my interieur makes me sick.

>when we were kids my dad used to have a full togo set.
Hah, my parent also had a full ligne roset set. Not the togo, but a similar, full foam one. The sofa died 2 years ago, but the chair is still alive, right next to me (though it has been reupholstered, for probably more money than it was worth). It deveoloped an asymetric form since i am always sitting in one corner, so it will probably soon have to be replaced. Fuck that, Its only like 30 years old or something!

But now for something completely different:
IKEA Knopparp
I know, IKEA is pleb, and hurrdurr, mainstream, but from the images, I kinda love that thing! I have seen it accused of being a ripoff of >>8697909, but i dont think so. It is kinda similar, but not much.

However I am really worried about its comfort level. Anyone sat on that?

Ikea rips off most design iconics, but there's nothing wrong with it imo. Quality is decent and it looks good. I wouldn't try to emulate their interior designs tho, but they sure have some nice and inexpensive piece of furniture. When you're young and don't want to shell too much it's perfectly okay. And I really like their rice paper standing lamp. I have a very nice nightstand lamp wich really looks like a small noguchi lamp except it cost me 5 euros lel
>>
>>8697923

Vitra again, this time the alcove highback.
They have those at my local mercedes dealer, and they are quite comfortable. Unfortunately, I can really justify spending that much on a single sofa, but still…
>>
>>8697947
Yeah, when you are not overdoing it, some pieces can be included into some nice "fits", e.g. Expedit (they have renamed/redesigne it, i think) and Lack.

>>8697951
Damn. Not waht i wanted to hear. I will have to try for myself, and see if some cushions can change that, but I am afraid that it is indeed not very comfy (besides from its looks. That comfy 70ies urine yellow!).
>>
>>8697962
I like the colour as well, but it's very cheap looking in person
>>
>>8697922
to be fair, it's a ballroom that a hipster band rented out to record an album in.
>>
>>8697923
its not brand name hate for ikea

its that it looks like half decent knock off stuff in the catalog

but in real life it looks bad, it's just wood grainish texture on cardboard, or frosted glass paint on untempered cheap glass panes

everything is so fucking fragile

its not bad for furnishing a dorm room that you can only stay in for 2 years but if you want to live somewhere with that shit....its not going to hold up
>>
And here is a grail piece. Mies van der Rohe barcelona chair.

They are surprisingly comfortable. However they are not unsurprsingly also very expensive.

But due to copyright laws, one can now legally produce "replicas", and those are available for a few hundred €/$. While technically perfectly legal, I am not sure whether i would want to own a replica. But whats original with that chair anyways? Mr. van der Rohe did never produce them himself or own a furniture company. He just sold a license for the design, and now he is dead, so its a totally differen situation from the submariner homages and the dreambaskets that show up here occasionally.
>>
>>8697962
yeah expedit is the shit. I had a second hand expedit shelf (the big one, 185x185) and I used it on my first two studios when I was a student. They were shelves and room divider, it was cosy as fuck.
>>
>>8697987

>>8697969

>>8697977
>but in real life it looks bad,
some stuff does indeed, but a lot does not.
>it's just wood grainish texture on cardboard,
This also rustles my jimmies. If I want wood, then I buy wood. If I cant afford wood, then I will life with solid colors, and those are pulled of quite OK in their expedit series, for example.
Of course, their quality is no match for proper expensive furniture, but compared with other low budget furniture (at least with the other low budget furniture i have seen) Ikea is a league of its own, concering the looks, the built quality and how to put it together.

I can't appreciate reproductions, (apart from Modernica's Eames line and a very few select others, but that's a given). I'd go so far to say that I only really fancy the real originals such as stuff from Berliner Metallgewerbe Josef Müller but those are nearly unobtainable, hidden away in museums or dusty private collections. Knoll know makes the 'original' and those are indeed rather expensive, easily 10, 20 times as much as a replica.

One of my biggest gripes with replica's is that often there is not a single mention of Rohe, the man who designed it, they are capitalizing on the fruits of his labour, it denies the designer their royalty, the payment for their original idea in Rohe's case it mostly hurts sales of those companies who were granted permission by Rohe and who actually support the several foundations and societies that restore his buildings and legacy, those royalty's that companies such as Vitra and Herman Miller have to pay do make up for a large chunk of the price over a replica but with it they do so much more.

Furthermore most 'reproduction' companies produce their work overseas without any mention of the working conditions, workers' exposure to toxins, use of unethical and environmentally damaging materials and processes, it's a minor thing since very few companies give out such information but those making original designs do and are often on the forefront of being all cosy and environmental.

Also prices used to be better. (Bauhaus, Fiedler)

I've always wanted to live in a big, empty warehouse-esque studio for me to be a cool hacker+musician in, with everything being super minimal with almost no furniture except a mattress, a kitchen that fits the aesthetic, and weight set.

I'd have my computers and synthesizers lying around everywhere with some distortion pedals and shit. Have a bunch of servers on the back for various purposes.
A big mounted TV, or a giant screen+projector set up to watch my arthouse films and maybe nxtlevel animu stuff too.
Small bar sticking up as a rack for an extremely minimal wardrobe.
Lightbulbs dangling everywhere on extended cords for light.

Am I a faggot?

>>
>>8699576

Well why not. I'll have to go find a measuring tape. The refrigerator is in the corner like in the picture and it's retarded. I'd move it but then I'd have an ugly closet thing with no door that I can't hide or tear down.
>>
>>8699607

It'd probably get fucking cold.

Ayyy. It feels like a cool environment, like an open canvas for anything; and whatever I do it feels like it would still fit the overall aesthetic, like a bunch of security cameras, or have an arsenal of a bunch of guns, or nerf guns.
I lift mostly so I can do MMA, and an Octagon ring would totally fit too.

why would there have to be something in the room? When you're in that room your entire body is there, all the parts and pieces - connected to all of humanity, billions of years of creation, and all your thoughts and hopes and memories are there too, and you're dying, how could you possible add anything compared to that, it would be a drop in the ocean, or a distraction.

It sucks that just living your life peacefully would result in your relatives you love resenting you and judging you. Visually pleasing, but... That bedroom is awfully planned in terms of acoustics, in fact it's so atrocious I just saved it as an example of how retarded "room designers" can be. It's nextlvl idiocy to have a room meant for sleep designed for visual as you have your fucking eyes shut (lets not forget you are more sensitive to sound when sleeåing, too).

Narrow parallel "hard" walls, panorama glass window, no absorbers/diffusors (except for fabric) and the bed on the fucking floor? Fuck sake you'll probably already have sleeping problems as is after getting charged some ridiculous amount for having that room made/designed.

Narrow parallel hard walls = no absorption + full reflection of sound-fronts = standing waves = strong modes = ambient sound will be increased for some frequencies = stressful

Glass window = sometimes awful acoustic properties = more ambient sound in room

Bed on floor next to a wall = you've got your head/ears inside the second strongest mode (after the corner) in the room and most frequencies are amplified.

You can easily confirm this yourself if you've got a "boxy" room: Stand in the corner and then stand in the center of the room and listen/compare the ambient sound.

ok yeah i get it, so what would be good acoustic properties for a bed room?
>>
>>8708595
I always put my bed in a corner. Just feels more comfy.
>>
>>8708734
The actual properties that makes a good room can get difficult to explain.. One simple way of trying to treat a "bad" room is to stuff it up with natural diffusors and absorbers, like a bookshelf, couch.. Anything that obstructs the simple geometry of a boxlike room will help. The position of your bed should preferably not be inside a corner or at the floor.

If there is a lot of ambience and you have a shitty window you are basically fucked though. Same goes if you have paper walls and hear your neighbours. Not that much you could do about that without spending a lot of money I guess.
>>
>>8708845
Let me add to that, another simple method is having a thick rug/fabric on the floor and maybe the wall(s). Add to that like a fat armchair in the corner and you have a decent room...

What's wrong with me? Nothing. But you're an asinine idiot if you actually think ambient noise does not affect people.

There are several studies showing that sleeping in a noisy environment is detrimental to health. Even if you can sleep fast, you'll sleep uneasy and won't get the most of it. Some people may think they sleep bad for a number of reasons like food, work related stress, etc and would never think of sound as the source.

I don't really care to expand this further. Believe what you will

Same here man. I'm going to live cheaply on the country side in Japan for a semester as an exchange student, majoring in media engineering. Basically what you do, but for artists who want to earn money for a living without, in one way or another haha
>>
>>8709822
Super frustrating because I always contemplate re-doing my whole wardrobe because I stick out so much in urban areas wearing "folk" like stuff.. haha

Good luck with your media engineering though.
