goddamnit /fa/. i had a big post written up like last time and /fa/ posted it but deleted all but like a sentence of it and now it's off my clipboard. anyways, I signed with FORD last week following a bunch of meetings with other LA agencies (7/7 of which were interested, including Wilhelmina, Two Management, Next Models, LA Models, Vision Models, Photogenics) I figured giving an update like this would interest a few people given that bc FORD is so prestigious, it gives me a decent shot at the top now. further i figure it serves as an extension of my thank you to /fa/ last month. also in other news it looks like i might have a big piece in Fucking Young magazine in a month or two (probably 60-70%), which obviously would be the biggest thing in my career to date (including nyc and back home). hopefully this comment doesn't cut off jesus

it's definitely possible to model over or under by a few inches, but being honest, the bigger agencies are pretty stringent about that sorta thing. you're definitely right about unconventional models, but as a whole, height is still v important. so having a conventionally attractive look isn't so much the main thing any more so much as having the right measurements. go more boutique w agencies if you're above or below by a few inches but don't bother with the huge agencies. but even they're only allowing a few inch difference from the big agencies. so it depends

i don't wanna get myself in trouble like last thread where i throw out specific figures but yes, it's very good income wise. but for most, it's hard to get by just w modeling. i've been lucky enough to not have to worry about that. sometimes catalogue models make mid six figures (like sears catalogues and h&m and that shit) but you have to be a very specific type of normal-but-interesting-looking model for it to work. editorial pays good sometimes and runway is shit pay. but from runway yes you get clothes sometimes. hasn't happened w me too much but it's pretty common

i'm doing a couple of gap years for modeling simultaniously taking non degree courses at NYU and once that's run its course, i'm gonna try for ivy league (which i hope i'm good enough for given that the hellhole of a highschool i'm going to has landed me national ap scholar after taking 12 ap courses before my senior year. it's the shittiest thing ever). maybe i'll get a degree in industrial design or something - i spend a lot of my free time working out UI concepts and stuff (pic related is my latest). but at this point in my life, i'm just going with the flow which has worked out well so far.

Usually 0. Most models, even at the top agencies in NYC, Milan, Paris, and London, make absolutely no money. Editorial pays fuck all, but is necessary to book high paying campaigns in the future. The main point is that the elusive paid most likely never comes, or by the time it does, you could've made more working a minimum wage job. It costs nothing for an agency to take you on, and they take 20% of everything you make down the line-- if you make nothing, they lose nothing. I was a professional model for 5 years, and besides the travel and making people on /fa/ jealous, it was a stupid decision. I was like OP at one point, but after my first NY fashion week standing in a 5 hour line of handsome dudes, I realized that the odds of being succesful are extremely low. Moreover, there are a million 3rd worlders willing to work at a cheaper rate.

Sure, I'm young and green, and maybe I'm a little too optimistic about my potential, but being positivie is crucial for success in the fashion industry. After all, where would Rick Simmons be if he listened to everyone who told him his clothes looked like shit and that he was a naricsscistic asshole? But I see the other model's point. After all, he knows Miles personally, worked with RJ, and has done jobs on every single continent. He was modeling when I was in elementary school, and knows that modeling isn't all cocaine buffets and fragrance campaings, the reality is endless castings, self absorbed assholes, and suing your agency for back pay that never comes. Maybe paying $2500 a month and $500 for comp cards wasn't the best idea in hindsight, when I could have just rented a room up town and went to the printers myself. There's no book on how to be a successful model, so I'm thankful for any advice I can get. It doesn't change the fact that /fa/ has the dumbest userbase on 4chan and no one here is a day over 14.
