For what purpose? What kind of style?

That's way vague and the most anyone can say is "check all the athletic and outdoor brands, you're bound to find something."

I didn't post an image? And OP's image is techwear. So it's kind of difficult to see how you don't have any clue what style OP is looking for?

Closest thing I've ever been able to find to a "tech" shoe.

http://amphibiox.geox.com/amphibiox2013/en_GB/collection/product/men/mattias

Otherwise just get a generic sneaker.

I also feel like these have some different function built in, enough to be considered "tech" and still fit the look.

I'm sure plenty would think that they are just too loud of colors, but a lot of urban inspo uses loud colors (playing off of things like graffiti, etc).

"Techwear" is not one style, arguably not even a style.

You want shoes like Errolson wears? Flyknits, /fucking everything.

By style I meant things like: High top or low top? Sneakers, boots (what kind?), sandals, something else? What kind of vibe - sporty and athletic, militaristic, classically elegant, crunchy, something completely different? What kind of color palette? Material preferences?

By purpose I meant: what are you going to be doing in them? What kind of social setting? What's the weather?

Just to illustrate the variety here, Errolson's worn everything from Vans to contemporary combat boots to Docs to zip Converse to a wide array of Nikes. That's in one brand with a very defined aesthetic.

>>
>>8418232
Any contemporary athletic sneakers is indisputably tech. You can question the goals (go minimal!) but typical sneaker design is leagues ahead technically over typical garment design. The only question is if the shoe's design fits with whatever your personal aesthetic is and/or the aesthetic of the rest of the stuff you're wearing.

Really, there's no point in asking "is something tech?" There is no techwear rubric, and the creation of one would be an act of profound dumb and missing the point of everything. This is fashion - an art form, part of culture, and an endlessly individual thing. Don't try to dress "techwear," try to dress your self. If this stuff thrills and inspires you, RUN FORWARD WITH IT into life instead of trying to stick to what shit fuccbois on the Internet think.

I remember this episode on Twitter where Errolson tweeted that he was pushing his car out of a snowbank and that the Flyknits he was wearing were surprisingly holding up well. Some guy asked if he was wearing merino socks and he was like, nope, just normal cotton.

Errolson wears cotton socks and Flyknits in the snow. You're going to be okay, kids.
>>

I mean, if I may say, your attitude is really inspiring. I wish more people were so... devoted (to what they love)? Helpful? Hopefully I'll be similarly helpful in the future in my own fields of study/work/hobby
>>
>>8418290
And this is also just something that irritates the fuck out of me about /fa/ - "should I cop?" "Is this /fa/?" "Is this techwear/gothninja/normcore [fuckin' K-HOLE]?"

I believe most everyone here is smarter than that. Don't ask us what you should do, you can decide that yourself - ask us for information, or reflections on something.

"What are some good everyday shoes for the summer? I can spend about $150, but I can only get one pair. I like militaristic-tending techwear, and I want something more like that than just sport sneakers."

Something like that we could answer, and say to look at Nike SFB boots or Danner's tactical line.

I'm a writer very interested in fashion, but it's not the primary thing I write.

Aspiring to William Gibson status, I guess. (William Gibson's a speculative fiction writer who basically started cyberpunk, touches a lot on fashion in his novels, got his own collection at Buzz Rickson out of it, and is at least good acquaintances with Errolson.)

I dress tech because I enjoy and respect the materials the shit is made out of. Plus, everything made of tech fabrics feel so much better than anything else.

The other side of it is being able to wear good looking shit literally through anything. I have a waterproof jacket, DWR treated water resistant pants, and waterproof shoes... and all of it looks pretty damn good - I can walk out in a downpour and give no fucks.

Defeating nature is pretty fun.

Purely practical post because I spent a fuckton of time playing with Nike iD, but I'll post more later on other stuff.

>>8418931
IMO, your best option is looking for solid classics or new classics in a special blanked-out colorway: I know right now there's all black versions of Adidas Stan Smiths and some Converse (though somewhat retro) floating around, and Nike has special "white pack" and "black pack" iD options up for a range of shoes, including AF1s and Flyknits. They're all, of course, still branded, but I think it's the best you can do - and especially with the white pack, where you can get AF1s with Lunar soles, most of the construction in breathable mesh (!!!) and the rest in standard or perforated leather, reflective material, or a range of other options. Seriously, check pic related, as breathable as you can make them, with reflective details - perfect chunky summer lowtop, though it stretches your budget. The Cortez is a steal - if you want no-frills minimalism, get your Kendrick on. The Flyknit is of course the most techy, for whatever that's worth, and the Danner (which I think is unbranded) brings in some subtle tactical and hiking vibes.

Military boots - check out Danner, Belleville, and Corcoran, all of which are legit boot companies, Nike's SFB line, and I've heard good things about Oakley and UnderArmor's offerings, but I know nothing about them because of general brand distaste. All of them will have something meeting your spec, so just choose what you like the best.

Wool actually lives up to all the hype. The cheapest I've ever seen wool baselayers was a clearance sale on Sierra Trading Post of Redram, a shortlived Icebreaker discount/diffusion brand. Tanks were under $30, short sleeves were a few dollars more, long sleeves were like $36-something. And they're the best-draping, most fashiony looking of any athletic wool tee I've bought.

Those prices are about what you can expect to pay. Check out Kuiu - I haven't had the chance to see or handle stuff in person, but on paper they're the best wool baselayers around. 17.5 micron wool (lower = finer, softer, and 17.5 is the finest used for athletic baselayers) blended with nylon (strength, shape retention, dry time) and knitted with this NuYarn technique that sounds legit to improve strength and shape retention. 125 weight with mesh sides, 145 and some heavier weight with little Napoleon pockets.

Yea, it's really weird. The same day one of the sales associates at the shop I was at said I popped up on his tumblr feed. Also when i did the grail ninja thread someone recognized one of the streets that's two blocks from my house in a photo. I wouldn't be surprised if I lived in a bigger city, but my city has a population of 78K, and the 20 - 30 year old population drops significantly in the summer.

I got them on sale for sixty. they're worth that price. My only complaint is the fabric is just plain cotton, and plays a little too well with water. they've got drawstrings to roll, up into 3/4 pants and that looks nice. for some reference I'm 6'5, 190, and these are a 34 long. I'm usually a 31-36, expect to size up unless you want a very skinny fit
>>
>tfw it's raining and your commuters dont repel water at all

Anyone have a clue why they suddenly began absorbing water?
They've been washed twice only, and although it was slightly worse after the second wash, water would still run along the leg. Is there some kind of trick?

Also, I was wondering, do you think some kind of diy waterproofing on other pieces are possible? Like a pair of jeans or some diy cargos I've been meaning to make.
>>
I didn't believe in these things at first, but holy shit... went to go try them on and had to buy a pair.

These things conform to your feet beautifully and the way the sole fits your foot is ridiculous.
>>
>>8426188
tumble dry should restore the treatment. if not invest in dwr spray. I haven't done it personally but a lot of guys on sufu vouch for it.
>>
>>8426188
You should be using tech wash to wash them - detergents break down DWR. The drying tip is a legit one too. Use an iron or throw them on low tumble for 10 mins.

You may need to re-apply the DWR though. Use:
http://www.nikwax.com/en-us/products/productdetail.php?productid=265

DWR naturally breaks down over time.
>>
>>8426188
You can wax them and then melt it in by ironing, but it'll fade again after a few washes; it's quite exhaustive, really.
The look of it is nice, though. Very distinctive.

Can I get a sanity check before I pull the trigger here?

I wanna get these Arc'Teryx A2B pants (in grey) since Levi's Commuters are too heavy to actually ride in without sweating a bunch.

Would these boots work with them in a biking-to-class context, or should I back off into low-top sneakers?

http://www.palladiumboots.com/shop/us-men/us-men-footwear/pallabrouse-baggy-6686.html

Also, I need a hot-weather shirt for this. Maybe an A2B polo, but I dunno if I want to go full Arc'Teryx. Any suggestions?

no you didn't. I've been on /n/ since it was actually about trains. tight gaps has been around for a while, but came back into prominence both with the rise of hipster fixies, and as /n/ discovered just how many bikes great white had, and how stupid most of them were. this thing can almost break 18mph! he and baconrider had an obnioixiously large presence on /n/ for like a year and half.
