You could definitely swing that in the U.S., but the problem is most churches I know that are closing up are ugly as hell. Baptists and Methodists just don't have that good old Catholic aesthetic.
As cool as I find this design, all I can think of is how absolutely awful it would be to actually live in that.

Filling your home with a bunch of stuff is low class. The less stuff, the better. Vast open spaces and high quality stuff, that's the point.
This thread is crazy scandinavian, I like it.
There's something relaxing about open, airy spaces with muted colours. Juxtapose that shit against the horrid interior decoration of the UK.
