Wax to get the style you're after, then use shed loads of hair spray. I used to have the same problem as you, but this definitely works for me.

Use two finger amount of styling cream or paste in damp hair, massage into hair. Blow dry front to back until no longer damp. Use 1 finger amount of wax/pomade and work into hair, but making sure to continuously slick hair front to back. Use heat protectant for blow dryer.

I've managed to replicate this as best as my thin hair lets me from the front, but I can't get it to look "right" from the side or back. What should I be doing with the hair that isn't visible from the front? Right now I just comb it all forward, because it just sticks out awkwardly in any other direction I try to put it. Does it need to be longer? Shorter?
