Second hands there are not bad.
UFF @ Iso Robertingkatu is a standard stop when I'm visiting home and don't have enough warm clothes. Wool socks are mandatory.

Also, don't be a faggot.
>>
>>10892749
Buy a down jacket, dont cheap out on it, and on cold days wear wool long underwear. Also, get good shoes.
>>
>>10892760
I've been told that winter wear is more expensive in Finland that elsewhere, and that I should buy clothes before going there.
>>10892787
Great, I love thrifting
>>10892791
Thanks
>>
are duffle coats warm enough?
>>
>>10892838
If you layer properly and the duffle is warm enough, sure. A thin down jacket as a middle layer is pretty common when it gets cold, at least here in Sweden.

There is a second part of this list somewhere I think

Varusteleka in Konala is the largest milsurp store in Finland. If I didn't have any cold weather shit I'd go there first. Their own line has baselayers and shit from merino wool. Staff is good too, if you address your problem there you're guaranteed good service.
I also thrifted a lot of stuff from Toinen Kierros-thrift shop. It's actually in Espoo but it's pretty close to the central Helsinki so it's not bad at all. It's also in the same building as the Tapiola's Stockmann. They usually have a few racks of stuff at steep discounts after the sales are over. Bought an YSL tie there for 20€
>>
>>10893107
this is a really good list, you should at least be able to understand the style and brands sections on there.
also don't forget that milsurp mecca Varusteleka is also located in Helsinki.
If you have questions I'm pretty sure that you will get answers on ylilauta /fa/ even if you ask them in english.

I've always wondered how there were so many Finns on 4chan even though there aren't more than 6 million Finnish people

Look at the size of Finland, then look at the size of Denmark...

6 million in each, wtf

Always 100% wool (merino) as your base layer. Wool undershirt, wool longjohns, wool socks, wool beanie. Turtlenecks, waterproof shoes, fleece lined jacket

I think it's because people get introduced to 4chan through Ylilauta and start lurking here too because it's just bigger and more active

>Thinking about moving to Sweden how big is English there?
Don't. Pick Norway or Denmark instead. Sweden is probably not going to be around for much longer. All the Scandi countries have good if not "perfect"(by the rest of Europe's standards) English.

You're a fucking retard. Everyone here in Denmark is both angry and afraid what happened to Sweden would happen to us, which is why we're tightening everything up and the foreign-'hostile' parties are receiving more support. You can take your liberal faggot views back to /r news or wherever the fuck you go and stay there.

Not Nordic, but I'm in Alberta and the temperature gets down to -40 and lower sometimes. It's really not that bad desu, you get used to it pretty quick. Just layer, and get a decent coat and a relatively warm pair of jeans and you're fine.

>>10893076
Oh shit that's from the fucking condom video isn't it
>>
If you need winterwear I'd recommend visiting the Halti outlet in lauttasaari. Lot's of functional garments at generally good discounts there.

I live in Oslo and most people wear Canada Goose and the wealthy trust fund people have Monclers.

I visit Helsinki and Stockholm every now and then. It is just as cold there as it is in Oslo so you will need a down (feather) jacket when it gets really chilly. Thermal layering is mandatory under -20 celsius.

if you want really high quality items there is a shop called Fere in the center of Helsinki, and Manglani which is ultra expensive. I visited the latter to buy a Loro Piana jumper, because Helsinki is the only place in northern Europe where you can buy the brand.

When March and April approaches you can probably use a light nylon jacket. The temperature is 5 to 10 celsius and starts feeling pleasant.
>>
>>10894084
been in sweden since september. Getting by with 99% english atm. Get duolingo and learn some basic phrases, really helps
>>
>>10894100
I would learn Swedish though since it's the lingua franca of the area. Neighboring people will also understand you pretty well and it is the second official language of Finland.

If you know English it shouldn't be all that difficult to learn Swedish. Though I might be biased as a native swede but it really is one of the easiest languages to learn.

Yeah leather boots are fine. If you're buying new I recommend combat boots. Get unlined ones and size up.
Next step; Woolen socks. Everyone in Finland has atleast one pair because every single finnish grandmother knits. Said grandmothers also sell these in fairs and commonly in thrift shops as well. Get a pair or two.
The combination of unlined boots and woolen socks are great since you've got two layers of socks reducing abrasion. Wool also handles your foot sweat wonderfully and since you can take them out of the shoe as soon as you stop wearing the shoes they dry out faster.
Pic related, my pair
>>
>>10899457
what are those boots?
>>
>>10899471
Wolverine steel toed combat boots. They were issued as work boots I think. Tough to break in and the sole is hard as fuck and has hardly any traction on hard or icy surfaces. Wearing these as I don't have a clue where I might have put my czech m60 boots.
>>
>>10895628

Well, don't bring your coat.

Seriously, it's like fucking 40+ here, we haven't had a real winter with frozen seas since like, nazi occupation
>>
>>10899797
Would recommend against usíng steel toes ones in -20 degree weather

this. A coat that covers your ass is much warmer than waist length coat. Well designed (faux) fur collar is also nice if you have to wait for a bus or something and its windy and snowing at the same time, and. Usually its just one or the other in Funland.

>>10899859
Kaliningrad? Yeah they have plenty of stuff there, gives good coverage of the Baltic sea.

>>10899835
Nazis vs warm winters, hard choice.

>>10899205
>>10899457
I've walked a few kilometres in sub -30C temps with unlined leather boots and woolen socks, no problem. Most of the winter I just use some beater NB's, warm enough for general city use, and with good leather protector spray they survive the slush and snow well enough. Pay attention to the sole though, some kinda commando style sole is nice for winter.
