The thing is, they're not backpacking boots. They're purpose-made for people doing direct-action raids without a ton of gear, who want something light and quiet. Danner and Bates make good combat boots, but they're all heavier than these and suck to run in.

There might be heavier-duty or better-looking boots, but nothing that feels as good to wear or stands out the way these do.

And with regards to support, there are several kinds of support. You don't want these for side-hilling or bashing through fallen timber because they lack torsional support in the sole. However, they have plenty of ankle and arch support, which is all that matters in the places you should be walking in with them.

The military doesn't issue combat boots to soldiers in the mountains: they procured a bunch of alpine hiking boots for that purpose because no combat boot would cut it up there anyway. Think of combat boots more as fighting cleats than as an all-purpose foot protector.
