Because you wouldn't be browsing 4chan if you weren't technologically enclined.
>I don't like Linux because I don't know how to use it
Only normies who know nothing about computers think this. "It's 2k it must be good" idiot mindset.
The only good tech apple male are their screena. Their laptop is garbage, fucking battery is glued to the keyboard, ram is soldered in, if any part of that thing breaks your entire machine is fucked and you have to pay cuck prices to apple to have it fixed. Don't even get me started with the os.
You'd have to be a straight up fool to by an apple computer
Who the fuck honestly cares? I have a macbook for work, a laptop that's a few years old that I run Linux off of, and a desktop that runs win 7. None of them are inherently effay. Why the fuck does it matter. I suppose a phone is a bit different in some ways as it can be an accessory but no one will look at your technology and think "wow that guys fashion sense is awful" like wtf you guys.
>Implying Linux users are /fa/
99% of them are as shittily dressed as pic related.
With even worse levels of pseudointellectualism to boot.
>windows in background pic
Linux crowd is very diverse really, it's just a vocal part that is fucking obnoxious and you can spot their fedora from a mile away. Kinda similar to how vegetarians get a ton of bad rap.
I built my own tower PC for my office and have a Thinkpad as my laptop. My case is by Fractal Design (it's the Define R4, R5 is apparently better nowadays), and it's phenomenal.
Riced out Arch Linux/Windows and stock OSX are /fa/ in my arrogant opinion.
There is no /fa/ hardware. All smartphones and wearables look like shit and macbooks are northface tier as far as appearance goes.
He only uses windows for FLstudio
Aside from that he's a "FREE AS IN FREEDUMB" linuxfag
iPhone 5S was the best size. Didn't stick out of my pocket like the 6. I wish consumers weren't so retarded so we could get back reasonable sized phones. If I wanted a tablet, I'd fucking get one
>just got an x220
now 20% more effay walking around campus tbhfam
Post your desktop pls.
I'm also ricing on Arch. I tried to post my desktops in /g/ threads but I can't stand all this "4chan is an anime imageboard so go back to reddit if you don't like erotic drawings of little girls" circlejerking that rules the threads.
It depends on your needs, I guess.
In my case, I have Arch on my laptop (a thinkpad x201 and it just werks, no need to fuck around config files to get trivial tasks done).
On the other hand, my other PC shit the bed with Arch. No sound, unconsistent behaviour, some keys not recognized... So I use Ubuntu on it.
For the DE, choose one that fit your idea of functionability. I have xfce as a backup when things go wrong (I know where to click from all my years as an ubuntu babbie).
Otherwise, I just use WMs. I like Openbox and I try to get used to i3.
Openbox is pretty easy to handle and there are great ressources online if you are interested in having a personnalised interface.
I'm pretty sure I overpaid a few bucks, but it has a "flawless" (no pressure marks/white marks/scratches) IPS display and is basically scratch free.
I'm still happy though because it's the cheapest laptop I've ever bought and probably the best.
If you aren't autistic about wear and tear like I was and are patient you will be able find one anywhere from $100 to $300 depending on the specs, user add-ons such as an SSD, and wear. If you're truly persistent you always have the possibility of finding the fully specced out model for under $250. Personally I wouldn't spend over $300.
Just search on Ebay or if you can tolerate it, craigslist.
>Being this normie tier.
Apple devices are litterally mall tier hardware.
And for windows, well, you cannot get a more normie OS.
>It just werks
>b-but it's the standard everywhere
>You're just trying to be different using a hobbie OS
All these kind of arguments are what people usually respond toward fashion.
The main difference being that using linux actually makes you save money.
>This is coming from a Windows fag by the way.
As if that validates anything.
I knew this was just a bunch of kids who can't afford their own shit so their parents buy them the cheaper option.
If I'm wrong, then I'd say that it's indicative of an even more pathetic trend that I've only noticed now that I'm not a hormonal teenager; actually living life to please /fa/.
Buy whatever the fuck you want. If you can't, see the first part of my reply.
My god, everyone on this board is predictable.
I actually went into the store today because I had to lay hands on the surface book.
It is very attractive to me. The price is too much though, I think I would regret it.
>Buying an OS that give every of your keystroke to a company and some encrypted packets to some unkown server everytime you open an image.
>Disregards free operating systems that won't spy on you.
You're too deep into norminess. Nothing can save you by now. I'm sorry.
Have you seen how ugly the r5 is? Fractal is trying to retro fit their standard silent tower with some modular case features and managed to take the worst elements of all the modular and standard cases to develop one big steaming pile
hell yeah, magnepans are supposed to be one of the best...if you power it right
Macs are pretty great if you care about the case and looks. The os is nice as well, beats windows. I guess the hardware is overpriced compared to similarly priced alternatives, but the fact that the os is optimized for the hardware makes a huge difference. It's ridiculous. I used to be an apple hater, but until someone comes up with something similar with linux, I will probably use apple laptops.
There's a lot more to your experience with a laptop than how heavy it is. It's not even the biggest factor affecting portability. (Neither is thickness, which is something Apple sadly misses, because most of what they do is top notch otherwise. It's footprint.)
The Air kind of made sense at one point, but it's been thoroughly eclipsed in Apple's product lineup. If you want the most portable thing ever and don't need power? Get the Macbook: it's thinner, has a better quality display, and it has the portability of the 11.6" model with the better aspect ratio of the 13" model.
Need power? Get the rMBP. It's small enough.
The Air is their budget, "you're buying this because you're buying a Mac and DGAF past that" model now.
The Surface I haven't fucked with much, but it seems unimpressing.
Classic Thinkpad X series aren't as in-your-face nice as Macbooks and you don't get OS X without some shenanigans, but from a functional object standpoint they're nearly perfect portable workhorses. Durable, long battery life, good ports, the joystick mouse.
What we really need is a bastard cross of Macbooks, Thinkpads, and Toughbooks
Design it around the premise that laptops don't need to be exceptionally powerful, they need to be exceptionally flexible - in function and in terms of what kind of situations they can operate in - and, of course, a joy to use. Thunderbolt and Apple's success and engineering components down to fucking nothing makes this possible.
For 1.5k you get 128 GB, and their upgrade pricing is like apple. More than that, it isn't as comfy and smooth of an experience as it will be (most likely) in future versions. The battery in the tablet is like 2-3 hours alone. You can't bend it 360: you have to push a button, undock, and reconnect. All fine, I could live with any of these little drawbacks (and others) but not for the price.
Make it the thickness of an X61 or X220. Use the extra space to ruggedize it and slap in a deep, deep battery.
The guts don't have to be powerful - with Thunderbolt, you can offload most of the processing to an external GPU unit. Give it at least two.
(Besides battery and portability, the reduced thermal load makes it more reliable and lets you have it be fanless, which is fucking great.)
Other ports? Load it up with as many USB-C ports you can fit, maybe one or two full size USB ports so you can plug in old accessories and thumb drives without an adapter, an Ethernet jack, audio connection (two ports or integrated IDK it'd be a design decision you'd have to make based on what was possible given everything else), and an SD card slot.
The display? High density, sunlight viewable IPS with a good bit depth. Touchscreen. 4:3 or even 1:1, for doing actual work. Ideally, detachable, if not a swivel tablet works. No larger than 12"; I think a 9.7" panel like on the iPad flanked by speakers (to give it width for a keyboard with full size alphanumeric keys and shrunken function keys) would be ace. You can do any kind of work, even graphics work, on it, but if you need more real estate you can always plug it in somewhere else.
The battery is removable and sticks out the bottom, not the top, forming a carrying handle and a keyboard stand - a trick I saw on an old MSI netbook that I don't know why anyone hasn't repeated. It's hot-swappable, but even without it, it should be able to run for at least 20 hours without a change.
Design a new power connector for it, too - one with an optional locking connection you can engage so you just don't have to deal with that thing where your laptop plug slips off and you just CBA to plug it back in and then it's near dead.
Keyboard all the way to the back for a deep rest and large trackpad. As good of switches and you can fit in. And, of course, a joystick mouse in the middle.
Nice try Apple cuck.
Even a XPS 15 is more effay than a fagbook pro.
I really love the industrial Design of the Thinkpad. I liked the old IBM Logo more than the Lenovo Logo though.
Good quality camera, microphone, and networking (WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular, GPS) - all of which can be confidently disabled by hardware switches.
Internal SSD with space for an OS and a few large application suites. Hot swappable 2.5" bay that can fit larger height drives.
Make it run a new open source version of OS X with window management like every other goddamn OS around.
It'd be nice if it had softer, curving lines like early Aughts Apple stuff and a matte, pleasing but neutral, subdued but not black finish with a nice tactile feel to it.
The result is a computer you can take anywhere, utterly depend on, never get mad at because of hardware, and expand or contract to fit your needs to do any kind of work.
X220 IPS master potato race
>mfw dual core plebs cant into 500GB msata+1TB HDD
Here it is
Apple is the obviously answer, but they're getting less and less effay by the release
They do bright yellow and lime green iPhones now, disgusting.
The 4 is the most beautiful iPhone, I wish they did a 5 sized 4. The 5S in Space Grey is also nice and a like the Space Grey 6. The pink and gold shit is disgusting. The Retina Macbook Pro is beautiful as is the 12 inch one. The air is ugly.
Unfortunately, it really has been downhill for the most part since Jobs died.
>your founder says who needs stylus'?
>release one anyway
>your founder makes fun of gigantic phones and says they look hideous
>get one anyway
Steve knew what he was doing, that's for sure.
Apple is only /fa/ as far as a black tee and jeans are never unfashionable. They are so non-confrontational they work with anything, but they don't excel by any design standards.
Criminally underrated post. Agree with everything, except that it's very unrealistic to think Lenovo could use thunderbolt technology or anyone would ever release a laptop running any open source distro.
But consumers are very much stuck in a shit ditch of laptop/smartphone choices right now. There's no reason it has to be this bad and anyone who thinks it ISN'T awful doesn't know anything about nothing.
Also, Thinkpad has far stronger design credentials than the Macbook has ever had. What kind of trendy tryhard tool would place Jonathan Ive over Richard Sapper in the canon of contemporary design?
And Sapper's brutalism is simply cooler, too, assuming you're not a yuppie twink or someone's mother.
But I still use a MBP as my main because the hardware is undeniably the best available (and an x200 running (arch) linux machine I keep at home). What kind of tasteless misinformed cuck would run Windows?
Fresh off the boat, from ;eddit, kid? heh I remember when I was just like you. Braindead. Lemme give you a tip so you can make it in this cyber sanctuary: never make jokes like that. You got no reputation here, you got no name, you got jackshit here. It's survival of the fittest and you ain't gonna survive long on 4chan by saying stupid jokes that your little hugbox cuntsucking reddit friends would upboat. None of that here. You don't upboat. You don't downboat. This ain't reddit, kid. This is 4chan. We have REAL intellectual discussion, something I don't think you're all that familiar with. You don't like it, you can hit the bricks on over to imgur, you daily show watching son of a bitch. I hope you don't tho. I hope you stay here and learn our ways. Things are different here, unlike any other place that the light of internet pop culture reaches. You can be anything here. Me ? heh, I'm a judge.. this place…. this place has a lot to offer… heh you'll see, kid . . . that is if you can handle it…
Nah, I don't think Lenovo would do it. I don't know who would, though. Either Dell or HP, I forget who, will ship their business laptops running some Linux distro (I remember straight Debian, but that can't be right) by special order even through the individual web order form.
>But consumers are very much stuck in a shit ditch of laptop/smartphone choices right now. There's no reason it has to be this bad and anyone who thinks it ISN'T awful doesn't know anything about nothing.
> What kind of trendy tryhard tool would place Jonathan Ive over Richard Sapper in the canon of contemporary design?
I saw something recently to the effect that Jony Ive was simply the best industrial designer who would do what Steve Jobs told him to. Sapper's definitely better.
I run a rMBP for the same reason, along with a personal server running Mint because whatever and an old Toughbook 19 running LXLE.
I can see someone running Windows for particular applications - Adobeware if they don't want or can't have a Mac, CAD stuff.
You seem better than all that, >>10837791 .
>You seem better than all that
Maybe I am, I only post here when I'm drinking and even that hasn't been good enough considering it's my first time back to 1/2chan in literally years and this board in half a decade
Lel dumbfuck, how am I supposed to do that if you don't quell your tears long enough to point out which one's your shitpost?
>still trying to imply tagging posts with an hero is rage
It took 10 seconds. I could've just as easily not done it but just because sage was banned doesn't make calling out cancer not fun. Is getting triggered by rudeness normal now? It's just banter, newfag
Is soylent /fa/? I think it is very much. It's the culinary avant-garde, it's very radical and follows in the tradition of molecular gastronomy & futurist cooking as well as the organic/health shit of matta-clark's Food, water's chez panisse.
And the packaging is pretty good - decent design sure, but so heavily emphasizing the nutrition label as a recognition of beautiful, classic data design is a far more inspired move than the pathetic minimalism you get out of any est/ 2013-15 design studio.
Anyone try soylent martini? It already looks like a white russian
I know it, its aesthetic is catered to startups with aspiring young creatives. The only thing /fa/ about is the fact money is /fa/
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.
I'm getting like 4-5hrs. I read some stuff online saying updates would somehow fix battery issues but even that seems like a long time from now since they haven't dropped these updates yet.
it my be faulty so will probably trade it in for another one since i have a warranty.
The OnePlusX is a really good looking android phone compared to all the other really shitty android designs right now. It has the slick look that most of the Chinese and Japanese phones like the Xperia look without the insane import price.
ITT: People trying to label anything that interests them as "effay", as if that would make them a more effay person. They can't get their validation irl so they try to get validation here. In the end the thread gets filled up with the same nerd wars we've seen on YT comment pages and circlejerking.
I'm all in for discussing fashion in technology, but that's what this thread seems to be about.
>People trying to label anything that interests them as "effay"
Contrarian shitter detected. The only thing this could apply to is a couple retards involved in the debate between MB, Thinkpad and Surface - except most of it and the entire rest of the thread is obviously posting from the perspective that "/fa/" means something along the lines of 'in good taste, with good design and on trend'.
If you dress "well" but have shit taste in interior decoration and lifestyle objects, there's a good chance you don't dress well.
