Spring semester is about to start (or has already started) for those of us in uni so I think we should get another uni thread going.
>find other /fa/mily at your college
>share advice/ask questions
With that said, who /rice/ here?
I just recently applied here.
It has the major I'm interested in and the town seems pleasant. If anyone goes here I would be interested in hearing what you think about it. I'm from the US if that makes any difference.
if youre looking for an effay uni i would avoid. Scotland isnt very cool and st andrews is full of private schooled kids so ages behind. Apart from it lacking effay it pretty good uni
fucking hate it here. probably gonna transfer in the fall
you 17 year olds are the problem with this board
i've been out of college for almost 2 years now
none of you have any purchasing power aside from the trust fund babies
stop circlejerking over muh uni
what's the most effay uni?
is my uni effay?
how to be effay at uni?
maybe you guys would be effay if you talked to people at your school and not on a "Fashion" board
youre deluded enough to think this isnt a common thing in Computer Science
enjoy your shit life that amounts to talking shit to college students since youre obviously better than all of us now
Deferred from Columbia early decision.
On the chance that I don't get in, does anyone know how hard it is to transfer in later? If I go to a highly ranked liberal arts school, get a 4.0, and I try to transfer in after my freshman or sophomore year, is there still a chance?
its easier to transfer than to get in as a freshman. its less competitive and the school would be looking to fill spots of drop outs and kids that transferred out of the school. I could be wrong though
lol have fun capping out in salary under 200k
I'm thinking either william and Mary or UVA since they are my only choices. I want to stay in-state because fuck debt and UVA and WM are the only two unis in VA that are better than jmu for what I'm studying
UVA, even if you're doing liberal arts. The name has more carry.
This is also fairly accurate. It feels like highschoolers trying to insult each other over where they got admitted when in reality they have absolutely no clue what the real world will be like.
Probably none of you guys here, but Clark University in MA
its really my fault than the schools. I didn't really have a good first semester but I'm gonna give it a second try this spring. I doubt its better elsewhere but if I'm going to be lonely in college I might as well go to a really good school you know
Is U of Edinburgh significantly more difficult to get into than St. Andrews? My guidance counselor told me that I have a good chance for St. A's so if it's about the same for difficulty I would apply there.
I feel you, at JMU you kind of have to advertise yourself as part of some kind of culture (fraternity, drugs, sports) or its hard to make friends. I'm lucky that my roommate is my best friend from highschool. If I have any advice its to make friends with whoever's willing and you'll find connections through there.
>human psyche is becoming gradually worse and worse for each year.
>psychology is becoming the new "pratical" philosophy.
>psychology student are seen as demigods
>mfw i'm studying psychology
Pretty hit or miss with people. Either they dress like absolute shit, or they dress pretty effay. Not a lot of gray zone here.
>want to layer up
>basically t shirt weather for the vast majority of the year except for those TWO fucking weeks in winter
I'll take it over east coast weather though.
Oh come on, you know /fa/ is hardly into fashion, here is not the place where you would want to meet people with said interest. All you'll grt from meeting up with some sperg off of /fa/ is the ability to talk about your favorite memes
How to have fun when surrounded by plebs?
Well guy, I love it. I can get into why that is if you want but I guess to expand on what you said:
1) If you're not too well off, they give really good grants. BU costs $65,000, I pay $20,000
2)Dark and Gloomy weather is the perfect atmosphere for our sick fits, and its usually cold or raining so there's a lot of room for wearing cool outerwear
If you wouldn't mind getting into what you like about it in particular I would really appreciate it. I suppose I don't have the experience to generalize boston as being a "depressing" city. I actually really liked it when I toured and I am seriously considering it. Also, is the $20k/year the result of scholarships or financial aid? I'm solidly middle class and I may qualify for some merit aid, but probably not enough for me to afford going.
Haven't really made any friends and that sucks, but other than that I like it here.
Anyone else in Columbus?
The pricepoint I gave you was based on grants covering the other $45k and when you apply to a school you can get the price points before you accept and go there so you can make a good choice
Probably the only person from the uni that comes here
university of ljubljana, i know theres some of you but youre all normie plebs, come @ me if u a reall fashion nigga
I know one of you goes here. I don't know who you are. But I know you go to the same tiny liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere.
Might be the least fashionable school in America.
There are /fa/ sets floating around, generally the arts people. The lifestyle here is wonderful though
Congrats you're paying tens of thousands of dollars for a chance at an internship that pays the same as a job it took me a day to get
I'm jealous of you if you think 20k is a whole lotta money
Yeah. Can't complain though. It's great for me financially (can commute from home & got a good scholarship from being from a boston public school) and the education has been good so far.
rochester native here with a lot of friends that went to U of R. The school itself is pretty cool and whatnot but rochester itself is pretty great as long as youre >21 and like quazi-hipster coffee shops and art galleries; you won't get called a homo for dressing nice or avant garde but at the same time a lot of ppl here dress alike so if you don't do it correct you'll be looking like eveyrone else lol so just don't be prep-core/tumblrcore and you'll get lots of looks
cool man I bet you will luck yourself into every job for the rest of your life coming from a shit college.
Like it or not, going to a top 5 program does have its advantages, however pretentious they may seem...
Look up carriage home listings on Craigslist or apartments for rent (BY OWNER: all the realty/propriety affiliates around the area are cocksuckers) around Home Park or Inman Park; since you have time to shop around, I'd keep Tech's residential options as a steady Plan B (since their rates are still outlandish even for summer if I remember correctly)
School is okay, gets very snowy, but don't need a coat/jacket
It's a pretty good experience so far, and it's academics are on the upswing atm. Lotta good looking people here and lotta opportunities to make good connections with companies. However, the weather is really bad and it's in the middle of nowhere, meaning there's not too much to do
Eh the weather isn't really that bad. People say it rains too much here but I don't believe it. Some people dress laughably bad but the ones who care dress well. All types of styles here
I'm biased to say it's a good school because I go there, but it's definitely one of the better public schools to go to. Tuition is supposed to rise within the next few years so be cautious of that, though
It's full of old stock farmers' kids, rich hipsters from Oakville looking to slum it in a leafy academic bubble for four years, and unnervingly beautiful art students.
>21 credits short of graduating
>currently have 12 for spring all on Tuesday/Thursday
If I added another class or two I could graduate in summer instead of next winter, but it would kill this dream schedule I've been waiting my whole life for.
who /shitty liberal arts college/ here?
Unfortunately, >>10817505 is completely wrong. While this is normally the case for most schools, Columbia has a very small transfer rate for 1st year students. 2nd year might be a little better, but I'm sure youll have a shit ton of prerequisite classes for your major. Find another place you can be happy with senpai, it's not going to be a sure thing
columbia has a 99% student retention rate, they just accept a lot of transfers in the school of general studies. for transfers in the college and engineering school it's just as hard as any other top private in the country
have fun sucking each others dicks in foothill?
>berkeley EECS, i'm making ~22-25k this summer too.
not bad series b startup can be huge though (im thinking ~150 employees?)
is it worth the shitty social life though thats the real q
Studying at edinburgh for a term right now but from berkeley. st andrews is pretty and nice - it would be good to be effay there but most people aren't. people aren't at edinburgh either
I go there too. I knew there had at least a few other people there who browse /fa/, since the school is overflowing with hipster assholes.
Dartmouth is pretty nice and I have met up with two other people from /fa/ that go here. Pretty cool people. Sadly Hanover is a fairly spartan part of the world and there is not much to really do here other than skiing and hiking.
Generally the aesthetic here is:
>Ralph, J Crew, BB
>tfw want to apply to school soon
>tfw have no idea what to major in
I was debating a buisness degree like finance or accouting but i feel that those would just make me want to kill myself 10 years down the line like pic related. Planning on becoming an ATC so maybe a math degree?
ayyyyyy lmao prepare for lots of social justice and no support for any departments other than english related
is nice tho, i enjoy it
v beautiful, ez to get away with doing drugs, etc
Shitty social life? I feel like my friends in other engineering majors and chem/bio work much harder than me and other EECS/CS people I know. I've been chilling almost every semester, although I will be taking 162 next semester so that'll probably change
>got an offer but didnt make the grades
the ucas points system can be very bad in some specific cases
now a third year at UEA, be thankful you're not in norwich my canterbury friendo
ah, that sucks! yeah, the whole ucas thing and entry requirements is pretty retarded sometimes. i didn't even have the grades for three out of my five choices (including kent) and they all accepted me except for sussex who wanted me to do a foundation year. sussex was my first choice as well :(
Any anons at UWE? It's top tier for my course but it's no Russel group.
It's ridiculously white and safe which is pretty nice, Prince of Wales is decent for nights out but that gets boring really quickly. Really good weed in Norwich too, I study English Literature.
> i didn't even have the grades for three out of my five choices (including kent) and they all accepted me
thats pretty lucky though man even if you didn't get your 2nd choice
when kent told me to fuck off i went through clearing and thats how i ended up at UEA, it's quite funny that i ended up at a uni higher up the rankings lmao
Aside from some of the rich asians? no not really
I guess it has its perks though. I don't dress particularly "/fa/" but all my shit fits well so I get complements here and there. Easier to stand out as "well dressed".
Whats your usual get up?
Classes are great but a heavy gross SJW population as expected. At least I'm not in a dead end major lmao
Recently got accepted and will for sure commit
I've lived here for a while though, and can confirm that in general it is not very effay.
I've been to Ljubljana, and I can honestly say it's one of the best-looking towns I've been to in all of Europe. All of the Slovenia I saw was beautiful, not at all what I expected.
Most /fa/ university in the world coming through. Make way or get run over! Toot! Toot!
lmao wtf r u thinking dogg literally for what purpose
Accepted and visited last week. Effay af. It probably doesn't bet better than NYU. The price is concerning even tho i got some merit. Might visit U of wisconsin madison because it seems to be pretty effay as well
NYU is and always will be fa just because of proximity to NYC. UoW-Madison is a big state school. Badger pride and all that bullshit. Stick to NYU and prepare to have some worthwhile life experiences.
dubvu checking in. Im a sophomore and this school is a fucking blast senpai
Ayyy I applied ED2 to NYU. I hope I get in/get enough aid to afford it. I can only pay 30k a year out of pocket a year and I hope nyu is worth the price tag. I'm torn because I have a feeling that nyu won't be a traditional college experience and I'm not sure if I want to miss that.
Wesleyan student here. It's a good school but not very /fa/. P much just tumblrcore or jocks in sweats. Social atmosphere is nice though, everyone is friendly and it's a small enough school that you just end up befriending everyone. Plenty of events going on around campus but absolutely NOTHING to do in town though so bring a car if you can.
just finished my first semester. holy shit i'm depressed
Don't go to W&M but same. It's probably common to start feeling depressed after your first semester of college. I didn't even do poorly or anything, just kinda drained of all motivation for no reason.
How do you guys ever find any buildings ever? Every time I'm on the UMD campus I feel like I'm lost in a sea of bricks and grass.
Pretty campus, and the consistency is cool, but goddammit
oh fuck, i'm thinking of applying to pratt b/c of their architecture program. specifically, b/c of the nigga karl chu. although i think he's undergrad only. hmm..
i've been seriously considering opting for ID over architecture. what are your job prospects like with ID > MArch?
i like it, not bad enough that i would transfer anywhere else. v small, which i do like but i know some people wouldn't
the buildings here are brutalist like a cold war dystopia, only cool thing about the place
am I alone familia?
I just graduated from there earlier this year :( Was always posting on these and now it's too late
I go to U of Wisc. Tons of normies, but a few effay people. Pretty fun here if you are into party life but not a capital city for those looking to live an effay lifestyle. And Madison is considered the Berkeley of the midwest, so prepare for waves of SJWs at every turn.
i am having a pretty good time! i'm a freshman. stick with the music kids by the smoking area (but not the stoners, honestly stoner culture here pisses me off).
i am happy i'm not at reed (where i almost applied) because i would probably be dead from stress and peer pressure to try heroin. or i would have dropped out like all my friends who started at reed this year.
also i'm a california kid, rumor is true
