Very interesting video op but you'll probably have to be more specific. All of them have very different techniques used to build them. It would probably be easier to hit up a junkyard and make your own than to try to recreate his instruments.

To make your own instruments you either need to have perfect pitch recognition or use an electric tuner. Knowing what something sounds like with the electric tuner can also help you recognize pitch. This will allow you to find the pitch of many items you are trying to use or make and adjust accordingly. Also, look into different pitch scales.
